  • I Can't Live Without Cupcakes, Can You?

    Ms. Cupcake

I have a bona fide sweet tooth. I grew up putting sugar on my pre-sugared cereal, eating a tiny dinner and eating dessert instead, and making cookies every week (then eating most of them myself).

My current problem is cupcakes. They're the perfect size, text ure and consistency, and I can rationalize having one and still feel okay about my daily caloric intake. It'd be one thing to eat a quarter of a sheet cake, but a little cupcake never hurt anyone, right?

I try to keep my snacking to a minimum, but when I want something sweet, it's hard to convince myself that something like a rice cake with minimal cinnamon on it, is really going to curb my hunger. When the need strikes, I want to eat something that's quick, sweet, and somewhat healthy.

What are some foods you absolutely can't kick the habit of eating? If you overcame your food, how did you do it?

I have never had a cupcake before.

I am trying to cut out the sweets (I have not had any jelly babies for three weeks,)

If I want to snack I prefer a piece of cheese, yogurt or a few grapes.

I absolutely love peanut butter. I could never totally give it up but I have found two awesome substitutes. I haven't tried the peanut spread (notice it's not 'butter') from Walden Farms yet, but I'm in love with PB2. I sprinkle it on my sugar-free fat-free ice cream, let it melt a little, and swirl it together. One less reason to be depressed on a diet, ha :D

This was what fruit was designed for!  Something like a banana will give you the same sugar boost but also provide nutrition.  Try it next time you feel like a cup cake.  Eat a couple of bananas instead, give it 30mins and see if you still want the cupcake.

LOL... cinnabon... cupcakes... cookies... all terrible for your health, especially if they have hydrogenated shortenings.  Then you are hitting your body with two of the most evil substances you can put into your body.  Refined sugar and hydrogenated oil.

I have a weakness for nitrite preserved meats like bacon and hotdogs. I especially love Chorizo sausage.  Considering these sorts of meats have been proven to be as hazadous as smoking for cancer (bowls instead of lungs) they are a serious vice... maybe even more so than cupcakes!

If I had to choose one food to have while stranded on a desert island... well, it'd probably be cyanide  - but peanut butter would be a close second. It'd take a severe allergic reaction to get me to kick the peanut butter habit (in which case, i'd probably go back to cyanide).

@marc@xanga - pure unprocessed peanut butter is good for you!  Nuts are an extremely nutritious, healthly food source.  They just happen to have tons of calories...

@addicted_2_blogs@xanga - Skippy and Jif used to be close, personal friends. But a few years ago someone introduced me to the pure, unprocessed stuff. It actually took some time to get used to the more subtle flavors, but now I'm hooked. And the processed stuff tastes totally gross to me.

    vegan cupcakes are the shiznit!

I like cheddar cheese a lot, though I know it can be fattening. I like salty foods more than sweet foods usually.

chocolate...can't live w/o it...lindt is the best :-p but i kicked my habit by becoming a poor grad student who rather have a roof to live under than costly food...

    Brownies!!

As a side note, I read a study recently that suggested that even when you can't taste the difference between fake sugar and real sugar, your brain can tell the difference! If you eat fake sugar to curb your sweet tooth, your brain will crave more than if you have real sugar.

i used to like sweets as a kid, but for some reason, i'm not a fan anymore.

i love chicken wings though.  haha.

    Cupcakes aren't good for you
I'd go for a muffin instead of a cupcake, though they don't have icing and are less sugary goodness, they are slightly better and usually pretty filling.

  • slinky@xanga

We were the little rascals growing up. We ran through the front door into the kitchen...stopping just long enough to roll our gum in the sugar bowl haaaaa then out the back door before we got caught.

We would have killed for cupcakes!

ICE CREAM! I can't live without it. And like you, I'll eat the tiniest dinner possible and will just eat a huge heaping bowl of ice cream afterward. Calorically, it's justifiable... but I think that's just about it, lol. Oh, and pastries...I love them so much! I have a huge sweet tooth too :(

@SnowGlobe2954@xanga - That makes me feel all sorts of uncomfortable! I thought Splenda was doing some good in my life :( Haha.

Right now, its Sweetarts. I eat them in massive quantities. I can't stop. I don't know why, to be honest. It's compulsive. I eat sweets in quantities that are NOT okay calorically. The only reason I don't weigh a ton is because I am a runner.

  • dryvona@xanga

I binge on things like wintergreen life savers, hot balls, or sweetarts but had to give up anything made with wheat or potato entirely. Eggs are also a problem. Dang! I miss pastries.

I suppose it's all for the better, though. The picture sure looks deeeliscious.

    sweets - always ice cream

    anything else - cheese

I usually go for dairy.  Cheese, milk, yogurt or ice cream.

    Mmmmmm... cupcakes

i can't kick my sweet tooth either!
but i try to keep my sweets intake down by drinking lots of tea and having fruit first, which doesn't always work, but at least then i had fruit first LOL
try the already packaged rice krispie treats...only 90 calories lol! green & black has chocolate bars that are about 1/3 the size of normal chocolate bars and have lower sugar.
    i want a cupcake now >_<

  • SmokyMountainDreams@xanga

Eat all the cupcakes you want!  Life is too short to skip the cupcakes and cookies!  I can't resist chocolate, peanut butter pretzels or Diet Coke!

  • amitheonly@xanga

    I love salty foods.
Especially macaroni and queso at Mexican restaurants (preferably Escalante's!)
