Healthkicker
Last night’s final Presidential Debate dedicated a significant amount of time to health care. Based on the candidate’s stances, whose health care plan better fits you?

Neither! Ick.
Obama all the way I like his.
Obama totally
with pre-existing conditions, there's no way I could get a decent health care policy with only $5000, sorry (and I know b/c I don't have health insurance through work). so mccain is just wasting my time; obama all the way
besides, I've always been an advocate of universal health care.
I'm not actually favoring either of their stances.
Obama's is quite a bit better than McCain's in my opinion, but there's a few things up in the air about it that I wouldn't like -- not to say that these would happen, they're just POTENTIAL things.
But I don't like McCain's plan, since I don't think it favors the regular person who doesn't have health care and is more of continuation of our progression of "health care for a few"...as dictated by greed and profit by the market.
So...you know. *shrugs*
I'm definitely a fan of Obama's plan, mainly because I've actually heard most of the plan and not just the tiny snippets of information you have to pull from McCain like it's one of his eye teeth or something.
I have one question about Obama's plan that I have yet to find an answer to (and it is essential to his plan). He wants to give affordable healthcare to everyone. Great. Me too!
How does he define affordable?
Obama, without a doubt. McCain's health care plan would ruin work based health insurance programs. On top of that, it would make it so much easier for the health insurance agencies to decline people help with a medical emergency. They already do it enough, they don't need anymore leadway to do it even further.

Hi, i think he wanted to deducted $2500 max.
A lot of people thinks he's for universal health care, but they are wrong. obama never mentioned anything like that on his platform. Maybe, i'm wrong.
@iso_whiteSnow@xanga - is the $2500 per person or per family?
Thanks for your answer!

"Reduce Costs and Save a Typical American Family up to $2,500 as reforms phase in:"
no problem :]
@iso_whiteSnow@xanga - perhaps I am nitpicking... but I have several issues with this statement. (Not your statement - what is on his website)
First, the words 'up to' imply to me that some people/families will save nothing or only minimal. Those words to me mean it is rare that anyone will save that much, and most will save less.
As for what he continues to say after what you quoted:
Lower drug costs by allowing the importation of safe medicines from other developed countries, increasing the use of generic drugs in public programs and taking on drug companies that block cheaper generic medicines from the market
This only helps if you take any meds. Even then, it doesnt say anything about co-pays! If you have a co-pay, say $40 (like the one med I do take), and the drug costs less than it did before, say instead of $60 it now costs $45, I would still pay the same! In theory, it sounds great, but I dont think it will save as much as it initially sounds like!
Require hospitals to collect and report health care cost and quality data
I dont really understand how this will help. (I could very well be wrong about this) but isnt that something that hospitals already do? At least around me, most hospitals are for profit. So if they can keep their costs down, it will only help them. And from what I know, there are standards they have to meet in order to continue to operate as a hospital (aka, Joint Commission).
Reduce the costs of catastrophic illnesses for employers and their employees.
One word: How? (Ok, not one word. Catastrophic illnesses have been called catastrophic for a reason!)
Reform the insurance market to increase competition by taking on anticompetitive activity that drives up prices without improving quality of care.
I really cant comment on this because I dont really know anything about it. But I would like to see it elaborated upon.
@iso_whiteSnow@xanga - the other thing that I have thought about - he keeps using the word 'affordable' I know people that $2500 wouldnt even make a dent towards affordable!
So while I dont think he has bad intentions (either in his ideals or his proposals), I dont think he is able to live up to what he says yet - based on what I have seen!
@der_lila_Stern@xanga - I'm sorry
i don't understand health care, actually. i never purchase health care.
$2500 sounds realistic to me. if it was 10,000 then it would sound too dam good to be true.
do you know what does mccain mean by refundable $5,000 tax credits?
Require hospitals to collect and report health care cost and quality data
No, not all hospital and health clinic accurately reports quality data. i heard a bunch of stories about false medical record so i think obama is trying to fix that.
@iso_whiteSnow@xanga - On McCain's website it now explains the tax credit better. I had been wondering about that as well. there is a chart about 1/4 of the way down the page that shows what the tax liability would be. It actually ends up in people paying less taxes - and those who make less money get a bigger tax savings.
They have revamped that portion of the website - I think it outlines McCains plans much more clearly than it had previously.
