  • Caffeine Gets My Motor Running And Keeps It Going

This is a guest blog submitted by Sam@healthkicker

I've never understood the people who drink decaf coffee, and from my observations, I would say that it's mainly old people that do this. Apparently they drink it for the taste, which is pretty much the last reason I drink coffee. Decaf is like putting water in my gas tank.

When I drink coffee, I feel smarter, so I feel more confident in my capabilities. Add caffeine to the equation and I turn into a tornado of productivity. I'm able to focus and get my work done more efficiently. I drink about two cups of coffee a day during the week, but I drink a bottle of water in between those two cups in order to dilute the insane amount of energy I've built up. I once saw the muscles in my arm twitching after downing two cups of coffee in about 30 minutes, so I figured spacing it out was a good idea.

So how much caffeine are you drinking during the day? Are you a decaf or regular coffee person?

I don't drink coffee. I drink a cappuccino drink at least once or twice a week, though. At dinner sometimes I'll drink ginger ale, dunno if that's caffeinated or not.. and then the rest of the time I have a cup of orange + apple + strawberry kiwi + cranberry juice. Caffeine screws me up a little and coffee just sits at the bottom of my stomach and makes me feel icky for the rest of the day.

I also don't think decaf coffee has very much point. Although I like the flavor of coffee if I have a hand in making it, I drink it for the caffeine! I don't drink coffee everyday, probably just once or twice a week as needed, or to complete a breakfast.

Caffeine makes my stomach hurt so I don't have regular coffee too often. Yes, I admit, I do drink decaf as it does not hurt my stomach at all. I drink for the taste since I cannot have the regular. It was a very sad day when I realized regular coffee was one of the things that were causing my stomachaches.

So, I drink decaf and have to pretend its regular lol.

I don't drink caffeine regularly, unless I've been depressed for a while and can't shake it.  Even then I'm careful not to keep up the habit.  It's hard on your adrenal gland and it takes several weeks for the adrenal gland to recover to normal functioning levels (and for your body to feel okay waking up w/out the caffeine boost each day).  When it's not been a regular thing for me, I go through my days just fine without it.  But there's no denying there's a focus kick when I do drink it.  But I find the complications are not worth it... insomnia.  So, I avoid it if I can.  When I do have an occasional caffeine drink, I don't have one after 5pm.

I rarely drink coffee, myself. An occasional small cup when it's really early and I hadn't had enough sleep the night before. I'll drink caffeinated soda twice to three times a week. Too much caffeine makes me sick to my stomach.
Be careful of those twitches and muscle spasms, though, they're very characteristic of a caffeine overdose, which can happen with as little as two cups of coffee.

I drink tea every morning and yes, it gets me moving in the morning.

  • pranalounge@xanga

You need to be careful with your caffeine intake. It leeches resources from your bones, messes with your blood sugar, causes digestive problems, and obviously all the problems of natural rythmn sleep/insomina/irritability.

You people at healthkicker have no fucking clue I swear.  Your posts are not about health at all.  Ever heard of GMOs, or hormones in beef?  How about the falacy of the food pyramid. Get outside your box and help people be healthy, not just get on some stupid fad diet.

I drink an Ale-8 every morning.

Those from Kentucky will understand what I'm talking about.

I don't like coffee, but like you, nothing else gives me quite the boost I need like Ale-8 does.....

  • Random_Goldfish@xanga

I'm a tea drinker and never been a fan of coffee...so it's tea with no sugar, sometimes a little honey. Caffeine and sugar don't sit very well with my tourette syndrome, only aggravates it. Little caffiene in tea won't hurt it.

  • CryofEternity@xanga

Definitely caffeinated thank you very much! About a year ago, the only coffee that I liked was in my CoffeeCrisp bar...well...working at Starbucks changes that for you. Being quite the coffee amateur, I drank a venti (20 oz) of black coffee and twitched my way through class...ahh life experience...

Two days and Sam's already featured! Wow.

  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

I don't drink coffee that much..
And I don't really have a lot of caffeine during the day.

I had a loving, intimate relationship lasting 3 years with diet coke. I needed at least 4 cans to keep me from zonking out every day. What happened? Went without it for 2 weeks because I was ill and when I tried it again, it just tasted sooo disgusting.

Now I drink diet pepsi instead.

So I drink it for taste and for caffeine I suppose. But yeah, I need a lot of it. Farrr too much really. Don't drink coffee though cus it'd disgusting. I don't understand why anyone would want to take the caffeine out though. It's like drinking alcohol-free beer.

  • ana_youth@xanga

I drink 5-6 cups of regular coffee a day. Haha xD But for every cup of coffee I drink a glass of water, so I don't get dehydrated. :P

  • TheCheshireGrins@xanga

I used to be all about the coffee all the time especially in college. Now I don't drink nearly as much coffee but I drink a lot of tea. I'm an addict!

  • Trictoine@xanga

I have been drinking coffee for as far as I remember. As a child already, my Mom was giving me a bottom of a bowl of coffee with my milk every morning for breakfast - Cafe au lait that is!

As born and raised French I certainly like the taste of Cafe, Expresso, Capuccino, Coffee... - no matter how you want to call it - but for hormonal reasons, I was recommended to switch to Decaf which I did for few months, until my Nutritonist told me that chemicals are used to remove caffein from coffee and that drinking the "real stuff" is actually healthier.

Like everything, moderation is the key though and also, because coffee is a diuretic and a dehydratant (and because as a runner I especially need to be hydrated) I was recommended to drink one cup of water for every cup of coffee that I drink.

I used to be a hardcore "regular" person, until I realized that decaf tastes exactly the same. Yes, I usually drink coffee to wake up or get moving, but every once in awhile I crave a mocha or something from a coffee shop but don't want to be up all night. I used to work at a coffee shop and we'd get free coffee on the job. I'd have so much that eventually I'd switch to decaf. I also know that if I"m ever pregnant or on some kind of strict anti-caffeine diet, I will really appreciate the fact that I can still have the taste of a delicious espresso beverage without the caffeine.

  • BarniganFlarn@xanga

@pranalounge@xanga - sounds like you've had plenty of caffeine this morning.

  • dragonsamus@xanga

i dont drink coffee on a daily basis. i actually only drink it when i dont get enough sleep the night before and have work early the next day. when i feel like im about to die then ill get some coffee. it always makes my stomach hurt though. and i only drink iced/cold coffee

  • JoyousMemoriesPhoto@xanga

I'm not a big fan of coffee and only drink it for the caffeine when I rarely drink it. Plus I have to add so much sugar and stuff so that I can actually drink it that I end up really buzzed lol.

  • idanou@xanga

I have never had coffee. I don't even know how it tastes. I have no desire to depend on a stimulant either. I really don't know many people who do drink coffee, but someone must or there wouldn't be Starbucks on every corner. What gets me up and going? Regular sleep schedules. A shower. A balanced, light, breakfast. A place to be.

  • kmiahali

i think the productivity is yourself, the coffee is just pure energy thats forcing you to be alert... coffee actually puts me to sleep rather then keep me awake and i drink regular... its amazing.
