Collaboration: Lite FM is Not Workout Music, What Are Some of Your Favorite Workout Songs?
Mr. Cheeseburger &
Ms. Cappuccino
The one day I leave my music in the locker room, I get into an argument. This weekend in the weight room the music playing was from an R&B and Hip Hop station (Hot 97). About thirty minutes after I started working out, a middle-aged woman came to use the treadmill but she quickly became annoyed with the music. She went into the music room (small community gym) and changed it to Lite FM. SHE CHANGED THE MUSIC TO LITE FM IN A WEIGHT ROOM! Along with a few other members, I was annoyed by her choice in music. I just stared at her intently wondering why this woman decided to change the radio to Lite FM. I didn’t want to listen to Marc Anthony or the Backstreet Boys while working out. Being the stubborn and impulsive person that I am, I went into the room and changed the music back. Listening to the beats of The Game’s “My Life” seemed just right.
Right after changing the music, the woman approached me and asked me how I could listen to such despicable music. I asked her if she knew she was in a public gym? Naturally she got angry and went on about me questioning her intelligence to how today’s youth is messed up by this music. At first I took her complaining and occasional yelling but after about 30 seconds, I just told her to shut the hell up and if she wants to listen to Lite FM wait till I leave the gym. Who listens to Lite FM while working out in a public gym? Lite FM is something I expect in a coffee house while I’m reading my newspaper or sipping a cup of coffee. I’m never going to leave my iPhone in the locker room again.
Ms. Cappuccino:When I'm on the treadmill for thirty minutes and feel slightly annoyed by my lack of stamina, there's nothing I like more than flipping to "Let's Get It Started in Here" by the Black Eyed Peas. The song always pumps me up; I automatically pick up the pace. A workout soundtrack is almost as important as the workout itself, and makes everything more fun. Below is a list of my favorite songs:
1). Let's Get It Started in Here - Black Eyed Peas (Also good: Pump It)
2). Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
3). Stronger - Kanye West
4). Crazy in Love - Beyonce
5). Lady - Lenny Kravitz
6). Up in Here - DMX
7). Hot as Ice - Britney Spears (Blackout is Madonna's workout CD of choice, btws)
8). Walk This Way - Run DMC ft. Aerosmith
9). Hey Ya - Outkast
10). In the Club - 50
Is Lite FM considered workout music? What are some of your favorite workout songs? Are any from the above in your list?

sounds gay, but mary j. blidge - family affairs... best beat for workin' out EVER
Haha, that is hilarious! I'm from the UK i guess lite FM is similar to classic FM.
I could never listen to that during a workout. I always listen to fast dance music, or hiphop, it get's me motivated. Music motivates us because it has the ability to affect our mood. As a result, if we listen to upbeat music, it will negate some of the pain we experience towards the end of our workouts.
DMX - Ruff Ryders Anthem. The egg - walking away, is a good song too.
I totally don't get music in the weight room. We have a gym where I work. The guys always crank the music. The younger woman who is usually on the cardio equipment has her ipod on, the music on the room speakers cranked, and is constantly yelling "yeah, yeah, go for the burn, baby, go for the burn!" etc. Makes me want to throw a dumbell through the window, or punch someone. Cranking up the beat doesn't make me exercise better. I like to focus. All that racket just ups my aggression. It doesn't increase my strength.
I love Britney Spears' Blackout CD!!! Hot as Ice is a good one, but my definite fave is Radar. Anyways, I agree...lite FM would make me lazy if I heard that playing in the gym. I need something more upbeat, especially when I'm doing cardio. Cardio can get so tiring and if I had to listen to lazy music, I'd probably fall asleep and trip over myself.
Oh, heavens to Betsy, Lite FM is NOT workout music. I roll with the Heavy hitters when I lift. (Don't get to that often just due to time constraints, but that's most people.) DMX is good, but I usually dial up a lot of metal.
Fire it Up - Black Label Society
Sad But True - Metallica
Walk - Pantera
Actually, the entire Black Album by Metallica is pretty good for it, and so are The Blessed Hellride and Mafia albums, by Black Label Society. I don't like to blast Slayer when working out because it's too fast and it screws with my rhythm. Something about mid tempo but heavy. Not too slow, not too fast, but steady. AC/DC is great also, especially Highway to Hell.
I think music on loud in the gym is annoying anyway, especially if you can still hear it thru your mp3 player. That woman should've waited though. I hate r&b and hip hop, so I would bring my Zune.
I listen to the TV, but then again I work out in my room..
But at home, when I use the treadmill, I set it up right in front of the TV and watch Law & Order or something while I walk. It makes it seem to take less effort so I can walk over 3 miles without thinking about it. I don't think music could help as much.
I prefer techno, electronica, trip-hop or hip-hop when I'm working out. It has to be upbeat. When I'm cooling down, I sometimes listen to something a little slower, but it's usually still in the electronica genre.
Some of my favorite groups to listen to while running are Underworld, Faithless, Hybrid, Oh No, Venetian Snares, Way Out West, UNKLE and Eminem.
"Remember the Name" by Fort Minor always gets me going.
This is why I wear an iPod. I don't have to listen to other people's music or talk to them when they insist on making conversation.
well i hate most hiphop, so i usually listen to hardcore//metalcore music while i workout, or just anything fastpaced enough. recently ive been listening to a skylit drive.
sometimes i listen to 3oh!3 though. :]
I think you have to consider her age. That's why I stopped working out with my dad, he listens to gospel, seriously
@brownpixie@xanga - oh man gospel is pushing it a little bit in the gym, but to each his own
@kash - at the YMCA they seem to let my dad play it and to my knowledge nobody complains
I always listen to rock songs while working out and then to jazz or classical songs post-workout. Crazy, I know.
How much I can work out in one day is directly related to what music is playing. It gives me energy. The gym here has had a bad habit of playing what must be a 70's station - and I don't mean the cool classic rock, either. I don't want to hear the more laid-back stuff and, this being 2008, I definitely don't want to hear disco. I won't go in there without my iPod.
One other gym I went to played the kind of music above in the downstairs weight room which seemed softer, had pink machines, and was unofficially geared to females. The "guys" weight room, with old-fashioned machines and more of a gym atmosphere, played hard rock, and it was great. I would sometimes go up there instead, but only at odd hours when it wouldn't be too socially unacceptable. Some of us girls would rather listen to hard rock too, but usually have to bring our own.
my life-Lil Wayne seems like appropriate work out music. wow, lite FM of all things in the gym.
I have a home gym with a t.v. in it. I would much rather watch yesterday's General Hospital than listen to music!
I really like to exercise along with a beat so obviously if I listen to rock, I'm probably going to get a better work out than if I listened to something like Lite FM. Muse, Dropkick Murphys and Rage Against the Machine are some of my favorite bands to work out to.
Metal for lifting, and a varied soundtrack for long-term cardio. My running/cardio playlists have hard rock, rap, japanese pop (don't judge me), techno, what-have-you... I like to mix it up to keep me interested. Too much of one thing while I'm doing a monotonous activity = boredom. I also bring a DS when I ride the stationary bike. Makes the hour go by before I know it.
At my college gym we play classic rock mostly...and hard rock stations. I think it's wonderful to have music. I am more of a techno, indie rock kinda girl when I am working out, though...so I have my own playlist on my iPOD. It's good to know that if I do forget my music one day I have awesome tunes to listen to.
I really don't care what they are playing on the gym speakers, so long as I can't hear it through my iPod headphones. Lately my gym has been playing music really loud in the empty class room I stretch in. I hate that, as getting a head ache and "Womanizer" stuck in my head is not my idea of winding down.
i looooooooooove black eyed peas for workout music!
i agree i like blackout as well, but i prefer piece of me or radar
and i like kanye, t.i., joe budden (pump it up!), basically anything along those lines. any party music or "fuck you i'm a badass" music.
@brownpixie@xanga - hahahaha.
def gotta have something up beat. i like either some hip-hop or some hard rock. (the old) linkin park is great workout music for me.
@methodElevated@xanga - Ohh, Remember the Name is a favorite of mine.
I listen to hip hop, fast hip hop that is, Britney Spears CD is a great one.
I like Lady Gaga, just dance & poker face.
As well as It's not my time - 3 doors down is a fav.
Also some random rock I like.
