This is a guest blog submitted by andilee1976 November 6th was my first day of sugar detox. I have the biggest headache right now. Waiting for my 2 1/2 month old son to decide it is bedtime! Finally had enough of my binge overeating of sugar and pasta. I have kept telling myself I will lose the weight tomorrow when such and such has passed or happened. Well tomorrow is finally here! I have to get healthy so that I can set a good example for my children and so that I can be an active participant in their lives.
While some sugar detoxes eliminate fruit, I will not be eliminating naturally occurring sugar in fruits and starchy vegetables. I may however try to avoid having them early in the morning based on their glycemic index number. We will see. First I have to make it through these first weeks of withdrawal symptoms. This headache is all over and permeates into my neck and shoulders.
I have noticed that my body is aching and I get a little sad after dinner. I've also been feeling a bit more sweaty/feverish - just running a little hotter than usual. I wonder if all the sugar I've been keeping consuming has kept me from having real feelings. Maybe now I will start to have true feelings and aches coming through?
I wonder if I can take some Tylenol to help with the headaches? I think I need to in order to make it! And maybe the headaches will not be so bad and go away in a few days? I also hope just through elimination of sugar and the white carbs I will drop some more baby weight!
Have you or someone you know gone through sugar detox? Are aches and pains a part of the withdrawal symptoms? Do you think sugar detox works?

no thats stupid. just buy a wii and work out on it. vegetables are good for you and they are good if done right.
i love grapes.
What kinds of things are you drinking? Water is probably your best bet.
Tension headache. Excedrin works wonders.
I do have to stop eating sugar, because I'm hypoglycemic and my nursing major friend said it could get worse if I tempt it, and I know it can be a precursor to type 2 diabetes. *Sob* It's always "after I have this candy" though. I can't help it, my friend got Warheads and I can't resist the sour amazingness...
when i was a kid i was really sick constantly and was banned from all processed sugars, processed foods, and dairy (aside from small amounts of plain yogurt). it works! but you will be very bleh for the first month or two...once you get through it, your body will get used to it and you'll start feeling better. BTW, don't forget to avoid drinking fruit juice. it has a lot of sugar, as do dried fruit.
Hello. I recently stopped sugar too on November 4. I have done it before around 2001 and kept it up for a year, but then I thought I could control my sugar intake, by only allowing one sweet treat a week and I totally lost it. So, I'm on it again. The pains are normal and will be completely gone in a few weeks, but you will soon feel more energetic and you will notice that your mood is more under control. The headaches suck, but it's so worth it.
vegetables should do the trick. they are sugar's enemy.
There is sugar in everything in the store, they pile it in most products. I use unsweetened almond milk or fat free milk with high fiber cereal that has very little sugar in it (4g or less)
I just can't believe the garbage we put in food and... in our mouths.
I need a sugar detox... I haven't got the right atmoshpere for it though (living with five other people who constintely consum it). Do you have any tips that could help me cut down on it at the least?
i desperately need a detox from sugar...my only fear is how to live after the detox is over...do i never have it again? can i not have sugar on holidays and birthdays with family and friends? how does a sugar detox work after the detox is over?
Never done that before.
I do it every year. The headaches are normal, make sure you are drinking lots of water, that will help with the headaches and to flush your system of all the toxins. You can take tylenol if you really need to but just keep in mind that you are putting more chemicals into your body while it's trying to flush them all out.
@movies__of__myself@xanga - It depends on whether you choose to do a short term detox (1-2 months) or a permanent detox. If you do the short term thing then you can eat sugar in moderation after you are done detoxing. It really depends on each individuals persons decision on how they want to live the rest of their life.
@sunshinekl@xanga - i love that you said that. ive been struggling with that for years. i go back and forth between short term and long term detoxes...i would like to do a long term one, but i dont have enough direction. i think i need to do my research. thanks for putting that out there, it made me think.
@movies__of__myself@xanga - Yeah I really should do a long term one as in the rest of my life but I really don't have the will power. So I just do a short term one every year. I think I would be OK if I would actually do things in moderation but I am a huge snacker especially when it's around that time of the month or if I am depressed. Trying to break 20 years of eating habits is not easy. So the rest of the time when I am not "detoxing" I try and eat more whole grains and raw foods and less processed foods and candy. That's all I am really capable of at this point.
Eating Sugar in the morning is no problem... Your body needs it for the rest of the day... The big problem starts in the afternoon, when we get those big cravings.. don't give in! You can do it ;)
I stopped eating all sugars for a week + 4 days now, and Ive been feeling the worst of the detox symptoms. Ive had constant headaches, body aches, chills, sweats, cravings, weird skin irritations, & a heavier period than Ive ever had in my life. Ive almost quit a couple of times, but Ive been told, after all these symptoms fade away Ill feel so much better after it all. If you feel like you need to do it, do it. Just dont expect it to be very easy! Ill come back and let you know if my symptoms got worse or went away.
I just started detox 5 days ago and I woke up with the most terrible headache. sucks. i'm excited though. i really believe this is what i need. i know that i've been addicted to sugar and i finally feel in the right place to do it. however, it is hard to know what to eat. every time it's time to eat i get grumpy and discouraged. i need to educate my self with recipes and other foods that are whole grain and so on. now time to go find breakfast, ugh. but i can do it!!
