Everyone has their traditional holiday foods that they MUST eat. For me, it's my mother's ANYTHING. Thanksgiving's chocolate pudding pie... Christmas's chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies... the snacks are just endless and always delicious. But with health becoming such an issue in today's society, I've noticed the snacking has lessened over the past couple years. Instead of the batches and batches of cookies my mother would make when I was a child, we cracked down to the necessary three batches; instead of mini, individual pudding pies, this year we get one regular sized one.
Not only am I losing a little of my Christmas tradition, but probably a few pounds as well.
In order to make up for my lost cookies and pie, I've decided to find healthy alternatives to add to our holiday menu.
With the crazy abundance of health-friendly recipes out there, I decided to highlight a few that seemed the most tasty to me:
Do you and your family have traditional holiday snacks? How do you think it compares on the health scale? Do you think it's "okay" to snack on these treats since it's only once a year?

I think every thing is conditional. If your weight is healthy then I don't really see the harm. The thing is though if you gain five pounds every year you also have to burn those five pounds off.
as long as you don't eat it every day, i think it is fine...
So peanut butter bon bon is a "do"?
My family isn't exactly big on healthy. Well, my parents are, but not my extended family. My aunt is a pastry chef, another one makes cakes as a side-job, so pretty much every family gathering has some cake with frosting and cream. Mm.
we typically have lots and lots of pumpkin pie and carrot cake. by the time im done eating the turkey and sweet potato casserole and macaroni and cheese theres no room for dessert. i consider that luck. theres nothing wrong with splurging for 3 days during the holidays (thanksgiving, christmas eve and christmas day). just as long as it doesnt last any longer than those three days.
@nattata@xanga - it is if you read the ingredients... bran cereal and raisins make up the majority of the ingredients. peanut butter isn't terrible for you. there is no chocolate. a little sugar, but not much.
@elr6355@xanga - Just the food with the most calories... I wouldn't choose a tiny bit of something bad, if I can have something bigger and better with the same value.
