Apparently grilled food can contain a substance that causes cancer. It's found in grilled, barbecued, or roasted meats and is called Triphenyl Sibing Topiramate (say that 10 times fast). Also if that's not bad enough, (according to several sites) a roasted meat is equivalent to the toxins of as much as 60 cigarettes!
Almost every doctor will say that simply removing soda from your diet is one of the healthiest decisions you can make for yourself. One 12 oz. can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg. of caffeine, and several artificial ingredients. Studies have linked soda consumption with
obesity, tooth decay, and heart disease.
Pickled foods contain carcinogenic compounds which cause cancer. The intake of these foods can cause oral ulcers, hypertension and harm the stomach.
Instant FoodsCollege kids, stop reading. I lived on this my entire first year of college. Ramen saved my life, but apparently it's more likely to end it? High in salt, calories and food additives, these are the last foods you want to consume. The intake of these foods over a long period of time may cause cancer, obesity, hypertension and other diseases.
Deep-Fried FoodsAside from being one of the main culprits of cardiovascular diseases, deep-fried foods also contain alum; which can impair memory, brain and nerve cells, and can cause depression once it hits our bodies.
Canned FoodsNot only low in nutrients, but also contain high calories. The aluminium which is used to make a can becomes contaminated once exposed to the surrounding air. Also, while in the process of canning, many nutritional value of the foods are destroyed. Prolonged consumption of canned products can lead to Alzheimer's disease.
ChipsJust one handful of chips three times a week adds up to 23,400 calories per year or 7 extra pounds. I've also read that potato chips are sometimes thought of as worse than fries for you.
So what about foods that are good for you? Every site had good foods that counter acted the bad ones. These were of course no-brainers: green leafy vegetables, flaxseeds, strawberries, black raspberries, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, figs, etc.
Did any foods on these lists shock you? How much of these foods do you consume regularly?

who the fuck cares? we're going to die anyway and blahblah everything causes cancer.
Everything is okay in moderation.
But I have to admit, I try not to eat most of the foods mentioned above.
thats true.
everything these days causes cancer.
i mean, if you drink too much water THAT can kill you too. everything causes cancer and can kill you.
unless youre eating this food everysingle day basically twice a day then yeah, thats gunna cause problems.. but in moderation i don't see anything wrong with it. everything in moderation.
-shrugs- Why does it really matter. A) Everyone ends up dying anyways, and B) studies claim that everything causes cancer. And obesity and diabetes and stupidity. Big. Deal.
Its shocking especially the BBQ food
Mom always told me burnt BBQ food is bad for you and you should rip it off - but I ate it anyways
All the yummy food are bad for you - there's a reason why they're bad LOL - such temptation
Like the deep fried food, microwavables, and BBQ / Grilled meat
Eh, I must admit, I eat most of those, but everyone dies anyway, and it's not like I binge eat on any of those.
I never consume meat, soda, fried or canned food, or potato chips.
But don't you DARE try to take away my banana peppers. Mmm, banana peppers...
the caffeine in the soda isn't bad unless you have an anxiety disorder or something else specific that makes you react to caffeine. also, soda contributes to bone density loss by leaching calcium.

pickled foods...it depends on how they are pickled doesn't it? i know a lot of fermented foods are good for you.
~
the link between Alzheimer's and aluminum isn't such that the doctors know whether or not aluminum builds up in the brain because you have Alzheimer's or that aluminum build-up contributes to Alzheimer's. so the jury's still out on that one, although most doctors will tell you not to worry much about this as it's a very small risk factor. you should probably worry more about the chemicals in the lining of the can.
i don't think i can ever give up ramen! they're 39 CENTS sometimes!! it's a cheap poor person's dream food LOL
I'm a poor college kid! What else am I supposed to eat? =P
Instant foods do shock me!
Anyhow, I still need them for lunch sometimes.
I was slightly surprised by canned foods- so we're doing the OPPOSITE of helping when we have canned food drives? :-/
If you think, "Who cares what foods harm us? We're all gonna die anyway," why are you on healthkicker?
If we eat well, we will feel better while we're here. That's how I see it, anyway.
In a few years they're probably be saying something is healthy.
Milk for example they used to say keep drinking to make strong bones, then I heard on a study that you're not supposed to drink too much.
I saw in a magazine that eating grilled chicken was healthy for you..
@deprivation_now@xanga - LOL I agree.. . except I do kinda care. I don't even eat all of those that much, but this list won't keep me from eating it.
nooo not chips!
dangitHonestly, food nutrition is not an exact science at times. I mean I have heard reports that carrots are bad for you. Beta carotene can apparently cause lung cancer. So I don't think grilling is as bad as it may actually be, at least comparatively.
Also, salt is not completely 100% bad for you. You do need some in your diet. Vary your diet and you can have your ramen and eat it too :p.
As far as I can tell, as long as you vary your diet a bit, you can have some of these foods. Which can be said about anything, really. So hey, we're all good :p.
So ummmm.....what CAN we eat?
man...the foods listed here consists of my daily meal ><
d---, everything causes cancer these days...
it kinda makes sense, but i thought the meat was bad for the reason that undercooked food makes you sick or cause of e. coli or other bacterium.
yea. i realized soda's bad. i stop drinking it and even stopped liking the way it tastes because it makes me think how bad it is.
well, good thing i dont like pickled foods.
yea...im cutting my intake of fried food
the chips suprised me. i thought they were healthier than french fries. i been substituting fries with chips. but lately i realized that chips make my chest hurt some.
i heard about canned foods. i like canned corn though! lol. i guess it's gonna be frozen...canned food last longer
ah! im glad sweet potatos are healthy. i love those
o and i know those instant foods are bad for you. they usually always have high sodium. so much that you can taste it.
what about lean cuisine by stouffers? i remember my father bought those from the grocery store and i thought, "ill...diet food" but no matter which one i taste, i always like it. the box doesnt list much sodium. and it has mostly vegetables in a lot of the meals. are those bad too?
Yes there are foods that can make you ill, but, then again, there is such a thing as "Hellooo, I think that I had better eat something..or else!!"
If you consistantly worry about every little tidbit that is out there..you will literally go nuts!I know that some would not believe me on this...but, yeah, this can happen!!I used to have a close friend who refused to eat at certain restuarants..because of her heart ailment..yet she still ate some very bad foods!Hellooooo! LOL!I didn't get that! I think that she just wanted to have HER way..as usual!!lilbrnbear
The only thing on the list that shocked me was Grilled Foods. Simply because food from the grill is supposed to be healthy. Everything else on the list was not surprising and are things that I tend to avoid eating. I completely ditched soda almost 2 years ago. With one exception of Sprite for an upset stomach when I have the flu.
I don't really eat any of these. I do a lot of drugs probably made in a bathtub chemistry lab, I smoke, I am in fact, going to die.
You can't take any of it with you, a diagnosis of cancer is really a suicide clock and I wonder if Miss Pizza is hot?
Canned = teh suck. Fresh or stay home, when I am not abusing my body.
@deprivation_now@xanga - that went beyond making my day
omg. i just reduced my intake on my diet!Â
I'd rather eat grilled meat than smoke 60 cigarettes. I guess as long as it's not all the time it can be worth it. At least to me. Plenty of things in our environment can cause cancer. We'd have to stop breathing too!
But the other things, I can live without. And I do, mostly. Sometimes I eat canned soup.
