This is a guest blog submitted by a Healthkicker reader I’m not a big
Oprah fan but she’s everywhere, how can you miss her. She recently revealed that she has gone above the 200 pound threshold again and is wondering how she let it happen.
What I couldn’t understand about the whole weight gain was how it happened when she has access to a world famous personal trainer,
Bob Green, and world famous Doctor,
Mehmet Oz. Aren’t they supposed to help her lose weight in a healthy manner? What’s going on?
I think this finally brings Oprah down to a human level. For years the public put her on a pedestal, made her a God like figure. Whatever she said was the way to go. But now she’s one of us, struggling to live healthy, even though she has all the resources in the world at her disposal.
Many might look at Oprah and wonder what’s wrong with her,
and try to break it down to a science. I think she was just living her life and enjoying it. In the process she gained some weight, or maybe her trainer and doctor didn’t their job.
Whatever it may be, she needs to, just like everyone else, get back to living a healthy lifestyle. She’s a figure of motivation, one that many look to for help and guidance. If she gives up living a healthy lifestyle, you’ll see a few things happen.
One, many will stop using the diets she’s recommended because they (
Acai Berry diet, etc.) apparently no longer work.
Two, some might give up working out, exercising, living a healthy lifestyle because if Oprah with her money and resources can’t do it, how can they? (There’s a huge Oprah following, I’m sure you knew that already).
Like I said before I’m not a big fan of Oprah, so what she does or says has no affect on me, but it does to many others. With that said, Oprah needs to get back on the treadmill, eat those delicious healthy meals (I’m assuming her cook can make them) and start living healthy again for herself and millions of others. Because for many, she’s the only inspiration they’ve got.
Do you think Oprah’s recent weight gain has finally brought her down to a human level, someone that we can finally relate to? Why or why not?

Only Oprah could be that weight and still feel comfortable on television.
she's an emotional eater, you jerk.
if she really gives a dink about her weight, she'll take care of it. i don't relate because i don't eat depending on my mood. i also won't allow myself to get over 120lbs.
Well, this isn't the first time Oprah has struggled publicly with her weight, so I'm not exactly sure this "brings her down to human level" or whatever. It's happened before, and she's talked about it a lot.
Anyway, I think she mentioned the weight gain was a result of her just eating mindlessly, or something like that. She said it just got out of control.
Not really, she is too idealistic for me.
I don't care what she weighs. Whatever it is, good or bad, its her fault.
She has a thyroid problem, I think.
I never considered her ABOVE human level. She's a person, just like everyone else. She's no better, she's no worse. I find it pretty bad that with both personal trainers and great doctors, that she managed to gain that much weight back. But when you think about it, many other people are pretty much in the same boat. They have the ability to get a personal trainer, a doctor: And they don't.
Further, if someone (a fan of Oprah or not) allows the fact that Oprah has gained weight change their own weight loss, that's pretty bad. That's actually a little bit over the "fan" thing, don't you think? I may be a fan of someone, but when they decide to go over the 200 mark, I'm not going to stop eating healthy just 'cause they did.
i personally do not like oprah very much. she just seems so full of it, sometimes. yeah, i agree with the many other comments -- i have never thought of oprah was above human by any means. i mean sure she has a lot of money, but so do celebrities and others out there.
i think if people are going to abandon their healthy lifestyle because they see oprah can't do it even though she has all the resources available, they are just simply stupid. if you cannot have a mind of your own and make your own decisions then you deserve whatever will happen to you in the future.
I think she may have done it on purpose to promote things. She can do a new "diet" on tv and have her followers join her. I can't stand the bitch. I hope she balloons to 300.
I'm just happy I weight less than someone famous. bahaha.
I too never considered Oprah to be more than human, but I know what you mean; so many people idolize her and think her word is law and want to mimic her in every way. In a way I feel sorry for Oprah because her struggle is so obvious and public; many of us struggle with weight loss and weight gain, but our struggles aren't on display for the entire world to see. I imagine that puts a huge amount of pressure and strain on a person. I'm not making excuses for her, though; if I can do it with no personal trainer and doctor and chef, there's no reason she can't do it, too! I do hope she can begin again and truly stick with it. What Oprah hasn't seemed to realize is that it's not about finding the newest diet or fad; it's about changing your life!
I don't dislike Oprah or anything but I wish people would stop worshiping her. People think she is like God or something. But she's NOT! I'm glad people might finally realize she is human and really isn't any different from the rest of us.
Eh, when I heard about it I didn't care. She's always struggled with weight. Who cares, really?
oh God...i wanna meet these people who live their lives around Oprah. It's kinda pathetic
Since when are people above or below human level??
I'm really confused..
I have never met anyone who worshiped her?
I don't know why it's such a big deal she gained weight either
even though i know for sure i wouldn't balloon up to 200 if i had a personal trainer and all the healthy foods of the world that can be prepared for me in my home/work WHEREVER since she can afford it
Everyone talks so much crap about her but she does give a lot
I don't think people need to worry about not being able to do it just because Oprah can't do it. She's obviously still got issues around food. Either that or her thyroid condition is not being managed properly. But I suspect it's the former.
I really wish she had had a past-life regression with Dr. Brian Weiss when she had him on her show. It would have been so interesting. Maybe she starved to death in a former life and is sub-consciously making up for it now. Or maybe hypnosis would have uncovered something more recent, from this lifetime, that might explain her food issues. It was a lost opportunity.
Hm, celebs are always gaining and then dropping back to nothing. I wonder if sometimes they just do it out of boredom... :D Do you guys gain and lose as much as these people? Other than pregnancy- my weight doesn't go insane like that.
She struggles with weight like everyone else....
How does that make her more human now that she is 200+ lbs? Does that make her more patriotic somehow? More American somehow?
She is a middle age woman who is extremely wealthy, which gives her more leisure time and an incredible amount of choices in food...so she indulges herself. Big fucking deal!
StrawberryShy@xanga - i agree.
This is not the fault of her trainers or doctors, I dont think she's ever looked to blame anybody and if it has to be someone she'll blame herself. Because she has to be ready and motivated enough to lose the weight otherwise having people to help you is not going to do much. And yes it is true, this is not the first time she's gotten fat, she's gotten fat before as well, and she she's always been open about the fact that she's battled with weight gain her whole life. I think its just lazyness on her part. If she gets motivated enough she loses the weight and then after she does the diet and loses some weight, the whole glamorous effect wears off and she goes back to no exercise and the old eating habits. That's what I think. Shes an amazing person, a good role model, has a golden heart, but she's not above being a human nor is she a God.
NO NO NO!!!!
I hope you're not associating 200lbs = human.
200lbs actually = beached whale!!!
oprah is not human she is god
She's no better than us. She's human, not a god like figure.
I can't stand Oprah, and the fact that she doesn't just go off her diet, but yo-yo's back and forth from ginormous to skinny is never going to be healthy.
@wynnw@xanga - And you're a shallow-minded, descriminatory, offensive and condescending person.
Yay! Oprah and I are at the same weight!! Well, I weigh slightly less at the moment, but the holidays are coming up, so you never know. :) And we're roughly the same height. But I'm sure she carries it much better than I do.
I've always thought Oprah was the perfect example of women in America. Her weight fluctuates, just like ours, and we get all excited when we lose all that weight on our fad diet, then get surprised when we gain it back, then repeat the cycle again. At least she's always been honest about her weight. That's more important than losing it, most of the time. Just admitting to yourself where you are can be a liberating experience.
I always thought of her as one of the few humans on TV. Most of the women on TV look like they come from another planet to me.
