  • Money Is A Great Weight Loss Diet

This is a guest blog submitted by THINdependence

A new study has been announced that talks about how an incentive of money helps keep people encouraged to lose weight.  The study was about 90% men, those who were rewarded with money - lost more weight and kept it off.

It makes me think about motivation and what motivates me to lose weight.  Right now - nothing.  However, down the road - children.  I don’t want to get pregnant in this condition that I’m in now, I want to be healthy and in shape.

Also because I’m the adviser this year at my school Swim Club and want to be the coach next year. To coach I have to be a lifeguard.  Right now - I’m not in shape to swim the required laps.  So those are my two motivations.

I’d love to know, what motivates you?  Would money keep you motivated to lose weight and stay in shape?

success is the only reason I want to lose weight.  I'm trying to be a "pop star" and they don't like chunky pop stars.  So for me to be successful, I have to be "sexy" and in the industry, sexy = skinny.  If I was trying to do anything else with my life I wouldn't care, I'd just be the way I am.  So money is part of it for me.  Knowing that losing weight can help make me rich and famous is definitely motivation enough.

    Money would definitely motivate me.

    Not for me.

I need to want to do it, for myself!

if i were on a reality show like celebrity fit club or biggest loser... i am sooo competitve I would def. be working my ass off to lose the most weight (even though i'm not looking for a huge loss but, theoretically..) not even for incentive but just to be the "biggest loser" or what not. even those challenge things on xanga i always have to WIN (those help)

well... i have a membership in the gym. so whenever i feel lazy to go, i will just remind myself i have paid for the membership and i do not want to waste the money. i have been going to the gym at lease 2-3 days a week since i joined in may!

I'm an athlete ( tennis ), so I HAVE to stay in shape or else I lose everything I've worked for. So this is my motivation. Also, looking good and fitting into my clothes. If I see I gain weight and my jeans are tight, I immediately start to do what I can to lose the extra weight and get back to normal.

money wouldn't really motivate me, looking good and having the ability to endure most exercises is motivation enough.

money can be a definite motivation. i would do it, if paid enough. but it should be about someone caring for their own bod, not just for money.

It depends, because if you look at the people on The Biggest Loser, as far as I know, they all go there to lose weight and get healthy, but I wonder how much of their drive is motivated by the prize money. Personally I think it would depend on how much money and the circumstances on how to get the money.

Money wouldn't motivate me.  I would rather be healthy just for the sake of being healthy.

Interestingly, they were talking about a study on the news last night that showed that wealthy men were more likely to become overweight.  For them, money obviously wasn't motivation to get/stay healthy.  (Although, I'm not sure I agree with those findings.  Off the top of your head, how many obese millionaires can you name?)

yes money would motivate me. ive been thinking a lot lately about how id look if i were to get married tomorrow in a wedding dress. thats plenty of incentive right there to keep me in check at least a little bit.
