Barack Obama & The Case of The Smokin' Bod
A few days ago, some personal photos of President-elect Barack Obama surfaced all over the place. Now, these photos are pretty extraordinary, if I do say so. They feature his, um, assets so to speak. Apparently, aside from charisma, an admirable new cabinet, and political smarts, Obama has quality pectoral muscles, something I'm betting many presidents (minus JFK) before him have lacked.
His only struggle it seems is that of nicotine addiction but I'm sure, hard as it will be, he'll adhere to White House anti-smoking regulations.
I mean he's no Achilles but these shirtless photos of Barack Obama on his Hawaiian vacation have rocketed him to the enviable status that Robert Pattison knows only too well: heartthrob status. It's not a bad thing though. Knowing that our new US president is not only mentally capable but physically fit reassures me and fills me with hope for a better future. It reinforces the fact that he's young, energetic, and will most likely make some positive changes.
What do you make of these photos? Do you think it benefits a nation if a president is fit? How so?

Kudos for trying to be healthy and fit (although if he really wants to be a role model he needs to quit smoking), but I'm more worried about how his lack of experience is going to affect our country than his pecs.
supposedly (w)bush was the healthiest president we've had - he's got a standing heart rate somewhere in the lower 40's (or did when he was first elected). I don't know if this still is the case, but, don't forget, O'Bama is also the youngest president. Most presidents wouldn't have been at their physical peak (or near to it) when elected. ALso, i'd bet that a good number of our 19th century and founding fathers were quite the stud. I mean, Washington DID fight with a sword on horseback...
I don't think he's that hot.
And frankly, I think it's dangerous that people are mixing their sexual attractions with politics.
He's pretty good-looking.
He does have a nice body, but I agree more with IamKelleyK. I, too, am interested to see how his lack of experience effects the White House. But, that being stated, it is nice to see a President-elect who seems to care about physical fitness.

I agree. I think people are just flocking to him concerning his image because he's relatively the best looking president we've had in the past 40 years.
It shouldn't really affect what we think or expect of him as a president, but it's definitely NOT a bad thing :]
@JadedJanissary@xanga - ooo that's true! I guess I can't see past the leggings and wigs or something.
Being fit is good; having photos like that taken by some fucking paparazzi like he's Britney Spears is ridiculous; and there needs to be some kind of regulation on that.
Pshh ... If you've got the body, you've got the body. I mean, why are we even making a big deal over this? Shouldn't we be worrying about what our future president is going to do when he gets in office. We're stuck with him for four years.
And he's not that great looking anyways. He's just in good shape and looks better than our previous presidents.
Looking good, Mister President :)
he's a good role model for those struggling with their weight, i guess, but it doesn't really affect how i think of him politically
i'm just happy he isn't a republican.
I can't really say. Lots of people vote based on how the person looks. Apparently, good-looking people intimidate them. Insert big, exaggerated shrug here.
I think it reflects well on the country to have a physically fit and healthy-looking president. Go Obama! Work it. :P
If nothing else, it sets a good example. And in a nation of couch-potato children, that's not such a bad thing.
It didn't hurt Putin's ratings. I'm all for objectifying powerful men.
@IamKelleyK@xanga - I agree entirely. Muscles don't compensate for lack of experience.

It's great for him that he's fit for his health and what not but I couldn't care less about how ripped he is or isn't. I am more concerned with his policies and what he's going to do in Washington. His heartthrob status isn't going to reelect him in 2012 him should he do a crappy job as president. If anything he'll be considered one of the most fit presidents to hold that office if he isn't that much of an improvement over George Bush.
Having a nice body does not mean you are fit to be the President. Not for one minute. The fact that some citizens are more concerned with his body and sex appeal than say, running the country, i.e. his views, policies, and actions, say a lot about America and how much of an uphill battle our future will prove be. Barack Obama cannot change the America, only We the People can change America.
He has decent muscle tone, but W. Bush was in better shape, I guarantee it. He ran almost everyday for years.
Also, Barrack would be slow because he's full of shit.
