Mr. Cheeseburger It’s freezing outside and I'm tired of having to trek all the way to the gym, a 20 minute train ride from work, four times a week.
I want to stay fit but sometimes I get so tired of lifting weights and running. This feeling led me to skip the gym for about a week before I realized I’m getting lazy and gaining weight.
There were many times I just wanted to quit and sit in front of the TV while eating anything I like. Of course I've never actually bothered to try it. Maybe one of these I’ll do it.
All this reminds me of the days when just playing basketball was enough to stay in shape. An hour a day did the trick. Now basketball is just an appetizer. It’s never enough. Now it requires hours upon hours of working out per week, just to maintain.
I’m also tired of eating healthy. There are days when I just want a big bag of
Doritos and some chicken wings, with a glass of root beer. Again I never get around to doing any of that, I just continue trekking to the gym, hoping this shit pays off.
Do you ever want to just forget working out and eating healthy and sit in front of the TV while eating anything you want? What prevents you from doing that?

story of my lifeeeeeeee
kudos to you for resisting the urges to be lazy!
i'm exactly what you don't want to be.
I don't work out, and I already sit in front of the TV and eat. But I eat pretty healthily, which is probably why I haven't gained a ton of weight.
man, i eat however i want.
i love to eat...but i wasn't made to sit around and watch tv all day. well, i can do it for a day or two...but by the end of those two days, i need to exercise and go out and do something. i'm actually glad weekends are only two days long. otherwise, i'd go crazy. o_O
My amazing willpower. ^.^
Actually, if I find myself really wanting to go crazy on junkfood I'll let myself get one thing that I know is no good for me and sit down and watch some t.v. Usually that satisfies it, and I figure as long as I'm working out and eating well the majority of the time it wont really hurt all that much.
yes, and I have done it a few times - I end up feeling bored and un-accomplished.
Willpower! I know that if I sit in front of the TV and just eat, I'll feel extremely gross and digusting afterwards. So in order to avoid that I just don't sit in front of the TV and eat.
This title just screams me. I think a lot of the problem with going to the gym is that it feels like work. You don't interact with anyone socially and it's just plain not fun. It's quiet and tv while treadmilling isn't much better. Companies should really institute a recess period or lunch with exercise, but I don't think that will go over well politically anywhere.
I think a huge problem is that people are so busy these days that no one makes time to play sports with their friends, even indoor charades. We don't make friends with our neighbors or really open up to them because we're afraid of judging or getting judged. Aside from the judgment, there are just some people out there who only want to make friends to use you or take advantage of you in some other way (i.e., we play charades all the time can you take me to work after I give you this sob story about how I don't have a car because I got an adjustable rate mortgage so I don't have to compensate you now that we're friends, yeah?). If you're uncomfortable or don't let them use you straight out because you have a feeling they're never gonna pay back the favor and plan on only asking for more, well, now you've not only lost a friend but have gained an uncomfortable neighbor who doesn't even wave at you.
I do that all the time eat and watching tv is the BEST shit ever
It's so chilll
hoping this shit pays off? the point is life long healthiness. if you're content with being the average american and overweight go right ahead -- you have that luxury and right. personally though, i would remember that it's quite easy to quit and very hard to stay ahead... but sometimes a little break is what you need. take a week off, enjoy how you feel and start renewed perhaps.
or just join the majority =D
I have a treadmill in my basement...takes less than 20 steps to get there and even that is too much for me at times :T
I think everyone likes the thought of not having a care for the world but never gets around doing the things we actually want to do because we're scared to get "too comfortable."
For me, I used to take pictures of myself as I started losing weight and that became my so called inspiration. I liked what I saw so I went far beyond the point of being obsessed with thinness.
but now, I'm just trying to focus on the important things in life and so i've gained a bit of weight back on and losing it back will, needless to say, be a bitch.
All the time HAH!
I'm just loving that I'm young and can let go for a little while especially since school forces me to sit on my butt for hours on end doing homework.
I have no idea how to resist the urge to just sit and do nothing. If I had that answer I'd get it copyrighted!
Keep up the good work!
Maybe you're doing the wrong activities. Are there any classes at the gym that you might enjoy doing more? Or, you're not balancing your 'down' and workout time. I think it's okay to want to eat junk food and watch TV. Just do it in moderation. Maybe one 'down' day to every 3-4 days of workout. Or, something like a few pieces of Dorito's everyday wouldn't hurt.
I understand how hard it is to motivate yourself to work out when the gym isn't close by and you had a long day at work. It's worth it though. Sounds like you're doing good. GOOD LUCK!
Nothing. I do that when I want...and then I pay the price and have to diet extra hard and go to the gym to get it off.
yes! and it's so frustrating when the voice in your head screams at you saying how much you'll regret it if you veg out and eat what you want
i do this every time i have something imminent coming my way..e.g. assignment, exam...it just feels safe and comfy being a lazy ball of crap.
I eat what I want and sit in front of my computer all day. :X
Though occasionally, I try to go to the gym and get on the elliptical machines.
you should eat what you want all in good proportions of course!
yeaaah that's exactly me. you know, motivation's key in everything and if you don't have that, it all sucks. but just keeping on going while you dislike it, will make you hate it eventually. so you should really try to make it nicer for yourself or it will only get worse, i think. good luck. and hey, you're not the only one, and skipping the gym for once or twice won't kill you entirely.
