This is a submitted guest blog****
(Healthkicker is doing a burger experiment in response to comments left on this blog post. Check it out here) I found the following report very disturbing when I read it on the best and worst of 2008 in
Men's Health magazine.
There was a picture of a
McDonald's hamburger from 1996 (actual picture on the right) and a description that said this:
"A women who teaches a workshop called "Healthy Choices for Children" bought a hamburger from McDonald's (on the right) in 1996. She still has it today and uses it as a prop to show that McDonald's food is suspiciously long lasting." Disturbing things: first the obvious,
McDonald's hamburgers last that long (that thing is over 12 years old) and second, that this women still has the burger. Her blog is
here with the burger story.
I guess the second is not
that disturbing, but some people don't have anything that old, let alone a burger.
Just the thought of one of those burgers in my stomach is making me queazy.
Does this story disturb you as much as it did me? Do you have anything as old as that McDonald's burger?

That is very disgusting! I actually hate McDonalds and I cannot imagine keeping a burger for 12 freakin' years! What was the purpose of her keeping this?! I do not get it..
The only things I have that are over 10 years old are sentimental things that I can't seem to give up
Throw it away!
That's weird! My high school band teacher has something similar actually. He has donuts from McDonalds. I guess they were a limited time thing so he saved them. They're still in his office. I'm not sure how old they are now, but they are at least ten years old and probably more.
It is quite disgusting.Â
Did she lacquer it or something?
She kept it for the purpose of showing how long a mcdonalds burger lasts.
Which makes me sad, however mcdonalds is delicious.
But I will definately take this into consideration next time I look at a mcdonalds burger.
did she keep it FOR the workshop? or did she just happen to have it lying around and decided to use it for the workshop?
It makes me wish I had not had McDonalds for lunch today. Now I remember why I gave up fast food. Oh, I will be going back to that.
Since I, actually, don't get it either and since I eat at McDonald's a lot, I'm recommending this post.
I'd also like to know where the guest blogger got his/her information.
that is truly disgusting. who knew a mcdonalds' burger had a twelve year old shelf life.
Fast food and their "restaurants" in general disturbs me.
@Axis_of_Doom@xanga - the post has been updated with the blog of the woman who claimed to have the burger. Here's the link
I dont eat burgers at McDonald's because I dont like my burgers well done. This makes me glad!
That is quite scary!
@healthkicker - Thanks! You didn't even have to do that.
eww disturbing...
@Axis_of_Doom@xanga - haha no problem, anytime
Hate McDonalds with a passion.
at least she didn't eat it.
I don't eat fast food at all. I think that is disturbing that she kept a burger that long. That is gross! The only thing I have that is that old are sentimental items or things that were passes down from family members.
ooo! I saw a video of her interview, its kinda gross that the food don't break down....eeek their fries are still the best regardless LOL
I don't think holding onto the burger is that weird, considering that she uses it as a prop for her workshops. Now, if she was just keeping it for nostalgic purposes, that would be creepy.
Have you ever noticed that distinctive McDonald's smell? Maybe that's all the chemicals that keep their "meat" from decomposing like it should.
That's fucking sick.
Well, you gotta take into account some things that aren't necessarily McDonald's fault.
First off: meat is easily dried out and stored - hence jerky. When you consider meat that has been thoroughly cooked, it pretty much just hardens and becomes like a hockey puck. That's with pretty much all meat though.
Second off: White bread, like the bun she's got there, just kinda... goes stale. And sits there. It's white bread. That's what it does.
So yeah.
Wow. That's amazing. If there was mold and crap on it I'd say it was gross. I wonder how many people are going to try to save their hamburgers that long as well...if they don't eat them first.
I don't care if it is a prop or not, that is beyond strange.
@psycho_ash@xanga - Exactly.
This will in no way deter me from eating mcdonald's, or any other fast food in moderation.
That's it. Never eating at McDonald's again. Wow. Disgusting.
