  • Free Snacks, The Best Kind of Evil

    Guest blog by msullan

Office food is amazing.  It is free, it is always there, and if its not there, someone's job description requires them to order more in.

Juices, cookies, crackers, and chocolates.... the list goes on.  Some people's office foods are even more elaborate, and include lunch items, which is kind of the top of the free office food totem pole.

They are the lucky ones though.  But if you are ever hungry, forget your lunch, or are just too broke to buy your own food, there are the coveted office foods glowing angelically in the break room to satisfy your immediate hunger needs.

But then again…what if you already had your lunch and a big breakfast, and you are so bored with your dumb job that all you can think about are those devilish little goodies hiding away in the break room?

You wouldn't snack during the day normally but here you are again, creeping back into the cupboard, and before you know it, you are elbow deep in the cookies.

As you sit back down at your desk, you feel horrible and tired and your body just feels gross from the terrible foods you have just ingested.

But alas, you will be heading back tomorrow for more of the office goodies...the best kind of evil.

If I had to choose between limiting my snacks and taking away the foods for good, I would unfailingly choose the free food.

Nothing is better than free food (I shouldn't say nothing.... but at this point in my life, it's starting to prove true).

So I say enjoy those office treats, but maybe ask the food ordering god/goddess to bequeath your office with fruits next time instead of cookies?  Or a little of both?  Whichever you deem more appropriate.

Would you continue eating the free snacks and food even if wasn't all that healthy? how come?

I've only had one office job, and there weren't free snacks.  We had to buy our own at a nearby market during breaks.

We were all pretty svelte for people who sat around at computers all day.  Maybe not having snacks in the office all the time had something to do with it.

at the job i used to work at, we had food that some people would bring for everyone, but most of the time it was terrible stuff that no one wants to eat.  but we did have a snack machine and a drink machine.  we went through those like crazy.  it had to be refilled every week.  and yes, i would get something to eat when i was bored, which was quite often.

we have to pay for most everything at school. our school counselor has a 'secret' stash of goodies which everyone eats, but they're not that bad, like sweedish fish and jolly ranchers. and the piano teacher has a jar of candy. neither of them are easily accessible places, but for every once in awhile, they are a good treat. everything else costs money.

EDIT: my latin teacher also has 'brain food' during tests too.

Ugh! I know what you mean!! So when I became in charge of buying the snacks, I got dried fruits and nuts. At least a little bit healthier  :)

My private school (i.e. 20 students) provides us with free Ramen if we forget our lunch. My boyfriend attended last year and practically lived off of it because of money issues and gained some weight. >.<'

I love free office snacks but sometimes I have to avoid them.  Sometimes I see other people eating them (ahem) and wonder why I'm not

If it's free I would probably go for it.

My work doesn't have office snacks.  They are way too cheap.

i will take 1 or 2 bits sometimes. since i won't buy those myself, it's nice to give yourself a treat once in awhile.

I do not work outside the home now, but before I became the "stay at home mom" I am... I worked for Kraft Corp for many years. We always had free Capri Suns and snack type foods in our break room as well. But being the dieter I was, I always brought my own snacks. usually some sort of raw veggie or cut up fruits. Maybe some wheat thins or something of the such. The only time I indulged was when my company would have a cookout for the employees, and even then, I tried my best to pick something a little less Evil.

Eating too many snacks in work will distract our concentration on it. I should not have eaten some snacks with doing my revision but i did.Even if you non stop eating them at all ,you will get fat more easily in short-term.haha!!!

We don't have free daily snacks, but we do have different vendors pass out free food to advertise and then we do a lot of team and office parties and a lot of pot lucks so when people bring all kinds of food... we'll you have to try a little of everything, right? :0)
