Well while you're still alive you want to make the most of it.

But IDK I kinda agree with that person.

  • Strangebrain@xanga

    Well, for

    1. You can stave off that inevitable death

    2. You can feel better while you're alive

    3. Well, 1 and 2 are good enough for me

  • StylishMudd@xanga

Yeah, well, might as make the best out of your life while you still have it. That is such a depressing thing to say >.< I believe that the healthier you are, the longer you will live so have fun and be healthy :)

  • bluedreamer85@xanga

there is always a point to living.

  • phoenixBRG@xanga

well when u eat healthfully u feel so much better...and end up soo energetic that you can go back and eat the junk ONCE in awhile and ur body will still perform efficiently intsead of being bogged down with toxins etc.

and well yea, we will all die eventually but keep doing what u are doing and u will die much younger and not to mention suffer (chronic diseases) as a result.

  • Hope4Skinny@xanga

living healthy ables you to live longer so you wont die soon if you live healthy

  • JadedJanissary@xanga

i wonder that too, sometimes.  I guess it's dark, but death is inevitable.  It's so important to keep that in mind.

  • PixelDOT@xanga

Live healthy so that you can feel better during your time here.

Many people argue "Why jog when you could enjoy your time by being lazy and eating junk food?" Because I just know I would feel like a sloppy mess after lazing around for a few days, and my body will feel better in a few years if I treat it right now.

Plus, any activity you do is as fun as you make it.

  • listen_to_The_Pixies@xanga

Uh, to live even longer, jackass?

  • thats_prettyxscene@xanga

You know, I've asked myself this very question. You can sit there and call it cynical all day if you like, but the fact remains that it's true and it's something you should ask yourself about a lot of things to get an idea of WHY you do the things you do. Why did you attend school? You're just going to die, and you don't need an education when you're dead. Why are you worried about money? What do you care that someone else has a hotter husband or wife? What does healthy living really matter? What does ANYTHING really matter when you get down to it?

The problem people have with asking themselves this question is that we're so vain as a human race and so wrapped up in our own pleasures that we don't WANT to know what the answer to those questions are. We just want to do what we do and not have to evaluate it for what it is.

The answer to this question is basically for the sake of your own health, whatever that means to you. Good health keeps you happy and both eating right and exercising are proven to get rid of countless things that may be wrong with your body, and even your mind. Some people, myself included, choose a healthy lifestyle not primarily for health reasons, but for personal ones. Others do it because it's necessary. To each his own, really. You don't HAVE to do it, but again, it promotes happiness.

Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we'll die.

  • Not_a_real_site@xanga

Longer is not always better.  Other than smoking, I choose to stay healthy via lifting weights for vanity reasons.  But I definitely see the logic behind the question.  Tomorrow, someone who exercises 5 days a week, only eats healthy food, doesn't drink alcohol in excess and has never done anything risky in their life could be killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light.  Live it up while you got it, tomorrow may never come.  Wouldn't you want to scarf down an ungodly amount of (insert favorite junk food), drink a disgusting amount of alcohol, and maybe even try one of those other illegal drugs, if you knew that you would be dead in a few hours?

  • MusingsOfAnAlmostSocio@xanga

It's definitely a very personal choice. My grandfather is very old and is in failing health. He lived a long, relatively good life with moderately healthy habits (avoided the big bads). His limbs and body have started to fail him, rendering him barely able to do any physical activity. His cholesterol and diabetes were such that the doctor put him on an extremely restricted diet. So what did he do all day? Nothing. And then he ate crappy tasting food. Then he went to sleep, and woke up again. He was just waiting to die. Today he eats what he wants, within some reason. Maybe his cholesterol will go up a few points, and his blood sugar levels are outside of nominal levels. But he ENJOYS eating, and it gives him a reason to wake up and go to sleep. He would much rather have that, than be "less unhealthy", because it surely isn't going to make him healthy.

My friend's Great Uncle Charlie (may he rest in peace) lived into his 90s. He had a sharp wit and enjoyed every moment of being alive and it had nothing to do with food. His body was failing him on the inside, but on the outside he stayed healthy, ate healthy, and was mobile. Food was a minor part of his happiness and therefore he would rather eat whatever was necessary to give him another day with his great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was laughing to the day he went to sleep and never woke up.

Life is about balance. These two men at the ends of their lives had an easy choice. But they were talking about a matter of a few years in failing health. At least, however, they got that far. Better to do things in moderation so you can live far enough for the choice to be easy.

  • EaTxYoUxALivE@xanga

i can kind of agree. i dont understand someone sticking to a strict diet unless they have diabetes or something. we could all eat a little healthier, but there's no need to deprive our taste buds completely. unless that's what you want to do...

  • OhItzJustMe@xanga

Some people enjoy healthy living. I LIKE vegetables, and clean air and feeling good inside, and looking good outside. To me, a good time is not getting slopped at the club and pigging out on pizza and beer.

I want to live as long as I can, and look and feel good while I am here. Living healthy helps with that.

Now if I was to step outside tomorrow, and be killed by a drunken club hopper over stuffed with cheese pizza, I'm coming back to haunt his azz for years.

  • pillowpixies@xanga

Tons of people who live unhealthily, end up miserable. Eating a certain kind of diet can affect your mood, making you more depressed and irritable. It can give you migraines, etc.

Who is to say that 'we're all going to die soon'? We have literally no proof of any such thing. Nobody knows the day they're going to die. Me? I say I have at least seventy more years to live. That's not nowhere near soon. Even if you believe that the world is going to end in 2012, you have no proof of that. It makes more sense to try and be at least minimally healthy, so if you don't die in x amount of time, you aren't miserable the remainder of time you do have.

I support having fun while you're alive, and honestly, eating healthy doesn't make things any less fun. There are small things that a person can do to make themselves more healthy, and, sorry, but it doesn't ruin your life to do them. In my opinion, we only live once. In that case, we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves. If we don't literally want to, we shouldn't cut back on foods we like, or exercise constantly. However, because we only live once, it makes sense to make the absolute best of it. And the longer you live, the better you can make it. Being healthy allows you to live longer. Therefore, it helps in reaching that goal.

  • XXVl@xanga

Well, if you would just DIE instead of going to the hospital and draining people's time and money, then I'd say, "no point!  Live as you like."
But most likely, if something goes wrong, you're going running to your doctor

  • KasumiCelesta@xanga

Try asking that question again when you start to suffer from some condition that could have been prevented if you just took proper care of yourself.

I used to wonder that too...until I would see a poor old woman or man with a hunched back using a walker to move around. Or when my mother, who refuses to actually exercise, complains about how her body hurts all the time because of work. Or when that smoker who has been smoking for 30 years finally gets lung cancer.

It's not about everyone dying one day; it's about living. I don't care to live forever, and I don't even care to live for an extremely long time. But I do want to feel physically young for as long as I possibly can throughout my life.

  • you_were_the_song_all_along@xanga

The user has a good point, but if one chooses not live healthy then they might also be choosing to live a painful life. A life filled with cavities, heart attacks, and obesity maybe. So, one can choose not to be healthy, but they will probably not have as good a life as one who is choosing that path.

  • Cashew

Because generally if you are eating right you feel a lot better.  Eating right doesn't mean you can never have a chocolate chip cookie again it just means you should stop making meals out of them.  I already feel better now that I'm paying attention to how I eat.

  • misswonderj@xanga

Only useless people think there's no point to living.
Perhaps its time for that person to turn their life around so they can see what the rest of us are enjoying =)

  • Lovinmalamutes@xanga

The point is to make the best of your life while you have it.
Diet can be important in preventing illness and diseases.
You may think there is no point but once you've dealt with a life threatening illness and suffered from it you'd see the point immediately!!!!

  • sarahb_86@xanga

"Sucks to be you." Then I would go and dance around a campfire with me crazy bohemian bellydancer friends.

  • Abryzt@xanga

Define "soon".  And for that matter, what if "soon" doesn't come along?

In the meantime, I'd go with "healthy".

  • LadyLibellule@xanga

What do they mean by "soon"?  Are they one of those people who think Jesus is coming in the next few years so they don't have to care about the environment or even their own bodies?

It comes down to quality of life.  Would you rather live the next few decades as a healthy person or as an ill one?

  • Annalyn04@xanga

Ha. I would tell that person to stop being an emo little boy/girl.

Basically, that's the mentality of: "Nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I think I'll just go sit in the dirt and eat worms."

At least, that's the impression I get, but I'm not feeling very sympathetic today.

But, seriously, that person does sound major emo.
