  • Alternative To Unhealthy Salad Dressing

    Guest blog by KasumiCelesta

I can't remember when I started, but at some point early in my college years I started to eat healthier.

I have never been overweight, so it wasn't a dieting-related issue.  I just want a healthy body.

One of the changes I made to my diet was eliminating salad dressing.  Pretty much all of us have done it, or we've wished we could do it without negative consequences: Pouring that Caesar or French or Ranch dressing all over our salads.

We're at Wendy's ordering that bacon cheeseburger, substituting fries for a healthy side salad, and then undoing our good deed by using the entire packet of dressing on that tiny container of lettuce.

With all that fat and sodium in one packet of dressing, we'd have been better off getting those fries!

Now, I can't just eat plain salad, so I created my own dressing: olive oil.

It's much healthier, and after adding a few seasonings it tastes great!  I add a pinch of salt, a dash of black pepper, and a few sprinkles of lemon juice.  Consider it like Italian dressing, but with less sodium than the store-bought kind.

This alternative took a little bit of getting used to, but I am much happier with my new dressing and feel like I've taken a step closer towards healthy eating.

Not only that but I'm saving money by using what's already in my kitchen.  Every once in a while I do go for that French dressing at the salad bar when I go to a restaurant, which isn't very often.

Do you have any alternatives for common foods in your diet?  If not, would you ever try?  And do you have any ideas for healthy alternatives to traditional salad dressing?
