  • My Face is Breaking Out From Food and Lack of Sleep

      Mr. Cheeseburger

The last few weeks I’ve ignored sleep and a healthy diet to get some projects off the ground for work.

I didn’t think it was affecting me much since I’ve been catching up on sleeping and working out harder during the weekend.  That was until I noticed my face breaking out.

The chips, soda, and fast food finally caught up with me.  Instead of gaining weight like I usually do, my face took the brunt of it all.

The last time this happened, I was a freshman in college, it’s been 5 years since.  Naturally there’s a level of stress when living away from home for the first time and having to deal with everything on your own.  It feels like that all over again.

I’ve been trying to get more sleep but it’s hard to get everything done during the day and sleep in time.

Has your face ever broken out?  What was the cause? Any tips on how to stop the breakouts for a few weeks?

I've had breakouts before, I still do sometimes but it's much less severe than in my teenage years. Usually it's caused from pigging out on candy and snacks. I usually try to make it go away by using a cleanser or scrub, but really the blemishes, pimples, etc. tend to go away in their own time. I have really troublesome skin so it really gets on my nerves!

I have a really strict skin care regimen, but once in a while, I get a gigantic, under the skin pimple that hurts like hell.  I think it's probably caused by stress.

I guess it depends on the individual, but I'd recommend one of the three:

Tea tree oil (You can buy pure tea tree oil in the vitamins aisle of many stores; you are supposed to dab it on your zits before going to bed. Some people dilute it with water or add glycerin if it's too strong.) The Body Shop also carries a skin care line with tea tree oil.

Benzoyl peroxide (Clean & Clear has their acne solutions kit-- comes with face wash with 10% BP, a moisturizer and acne gel. NOTE: If you use a topical cream or gel containing BP, it may bleach clothing, towels, pillow cases, etc. from your face rubbing on it. The acne gel in this kit doesn't contain BP, though.)

Salicylic acid (Personally, this is what worked best for me when I broke out like crazy this summer after using a bad makeup product. I use the acne spot healing gel from clinique with 5% SA, but they also have a whole kit you may want to try.)

Someone suggested it to me once, and it did help in high school. Try, in the shower, washing your hair first, then washing the rest of you. The shampoo is forumlated differently, and if you don't get it all off, it can clog up pores and help cause a breakout.

This drugstore brand acnefree works really well, better than proactive for some people. The severe kind works even better.

drink plenty of water! stayed up all night one summer during hs and I just remember that my breakouts became less soon after. Water just does a tremendous amounts of work and people take it for granted. good luck

I use an apricot face scrub.  I don't break out much, the most I'll do extra is use a toner or something.

    1) Drink a lot of water.  I know junk food just goes best with junk drinks, but drinking water will flush our your system, and truly will help your face.

    2) Wash your face with a regular cleanser or just soap, and then put acne cream/gel/medication on.  Don't waste money on the special Clearasil/Clean and Clear type face washes.  A nightly face cream/gel that has worked well for me is Dan Kern's Regimen.  It's not a strong formula, but if you just wash with regular soap, and then put this all over your face before bed, it takes care of business.

I too have a big issue with acne. Im 21 and its not as bad as i was when i was in my young teens, but still... who wants acne when your in your twenties... I have literally tried almost everything, and spent countless dollars on all sorts of products. Lately, ive been using Clinique Acne Solutions kit. Its a 3 step kit. I am very consistent with it, and i personally think that has a lot to do with it. No matter how tired i am, I still use it every night/morning. This stuff has really worked out for me. I usually break out from soda, stress, and my lovely time of the month...so i try to drink water (however i love coke...) Hope this helped!?

what i would do is to wash my face in warm water then alternate to cold water and repeat that about few more times.  I think it get the skin to feel it's being clean and stimulate by the temperature changes so that the pores will open, and don't forget to use facial cleansing products.  Personally i don't care what kind as long as it cleans your face.  Then apply moisturizer after washing.  This idea is totally what i made up few weeks ago, and so far my face has been ok, as matter of fact it got smoother.  It works for me, and i hope this helps you too

If chips, soda, and fast food make you break out, stop eating chips, soda, and fast food.

    Was this a trick question?

@serendipity3m@xanga - the clinique spot treatment gel works wonder

    But it stings***** -.-"

I use a really good face wash with Glycolic acid. It's expensive and I have to get it at a fancy cosmetics store (Ulta), but it really works well. It's called MDformulations facial cleansing gel. It exfoliates your skin, so it may cause dryness and irritation. You might need a moisturizer with it.

Light your face on fire... or try lots of different things until you find one that works for you.

  • XxskinnyxxhippoxX@xanga

ignored sleep and a healthy diet to get some projects off the ground for work.  yeah, i do that allthe time... then i pass out & eat a cookie (wheni wake up)

  • Brwneyez803@xanga

I get a lot of my breakouts for the reasons you mentioned - lack of sleep, stress, and junk food.  Clean n Clear products seem to work well with my skin.
