because fish have no feelings. duh.
People who don't eat meat but eat fish are pescetarians. But does it really matter? It's just a label.
They are actually pescetarians. They consider themselves vegetarian but that's a matter of debate really.
Why do some people call themselves meat-eaters but still not eat fish?
Fish isn't actually meat.. but that's something that's debatable. I know plenty of vegetarians that eat fish.
I guess some people don't consider fish to be meat.
I'm vegetarian and I don't eat fish. Because vegetarianism is about not eating animals. A fish is considered an animal right? I mean, even if it's in the ocean and not on land. I don't think people who eat fish should call themselves vegetarian. If anything, they should just say that they only eat fish. Simple enough right?
Isn't it called pescatarian, though?
'vegetarians' that eat fish are called pescetarians.
Some people think fish isn't meat; but meat is the muscle of an animal, and since fish are a main animal kingdom, they're meat. Somehow people still disagree with that.
I never understood that, but I think it has to do with personal definition of vegetarianism. To me, vegetarianism is "no eating animals". So, I don't. No fish, birds, cattle, pigs, etc.
Fish isn't meat as far as I know. Also, I've heard that there are different "types" of vegetarians. Some eat fish and some don't. I think the only time I'd really question someone is if they said they were vegan and still ate fish.
because 'vegetarian' is a much simpler answer than 'pescetarian' Many people don't know what a pescetarian is, and maybe the pescetarian doesn't really want to explain/specify.
i think bc some vegetarians stop eating meat for health reason and other stop bc they dont want to harm animals
I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat fish. I do it for animal cruelty reasons though..Anything that once was a living, breathing creature, I don't eat. So that includes fish.
I suppose some people don't eat meat for health reasons..Call themselves a vegetarian (even though I don't think that would be considered one) and still eat fish for good health. Who knows!
im vegan, and it is silly calling yourself a vegetarian, but there is a "branch" of this form of eating called, pescatarian which refers to those that still eat meat. oh, excuse me. FISH.
it depends on your sole reason for giving up meat in the first place.
diet and weightloss, or animal rights.
I don't know.
Some people think eating chicken (as opposed to other meats) makes you a vegetarian. Or should that be pollotarian?
People can call themselves whatever they like. It doesn't mean they're using the correct term.
@Sirius_Fan_Girl@xanga - that's how I've always thought of it: meat= flesh of an animal.
Unrelatedly, one time this supposedly "smart" kid told me that fish is poultry. What an idiot.
I heard that the meat of the fish is more heathly than the cow or chicken... o_O
Uhm. Are fish like, some new vegetable? A plant of some sort?
No?
Well then they're no vegetarians. Meat is meat, no matter what spin you put on it.
I always wondered about that too!!!
There r several types of vegetarian:
Semi-vegetarian
polio-vegetarian: they eat plant foods, eggs, dairy products, poultry, and fish NO red meat
pesca-vegeterian: they eat plant foods, eggs, dairy products, fish and shellfish NO red meat or white meat
true-vegetarian
Lacto-ovo-vegetarian: they eat plant foods, eggs, dairy products NO meat at all
Lacto-vegetarian: they eat plant food and dairy products NO eggs or any meat
Ovo-vegetarian: they eat plant food and eggs NO meats or dairy products
Vegen: they eat only plant food NO meat, no animal by products such as honey, gelatin, eggs, dairy products, and even some yeast

Aren’t fish high in mercury?
& if u don’t get enough protein don’t u get parasitic?
I'm pescetarian, only because I love sushi too much to give it up.

Fish are animals, meat is the flesh of animals, so fish is meat. I think it's really odd that some people actually argue that it is not meat. If you want to eat fish, then I guess you can eat fish, but you're not a vegetarian.
