  • Girls with Muscle Are Not Attractive?

    Guest blog by JoeytheGenie

I read a bunch of blogs a while back and one of them said girls with muscle are a turnoff.

I'm a runner, not a very good or fast one but I love to run.  One of my favorite things to do is actually go out and do a 10k run no matter what the weather is.

As a result of my addiction to running I have pretty muscular legs.  I love my legs I think they look sexy and toned but am I living in a fantasy world?

I also do a bit of weight training when I have the time so my upper body will match my lower body, the guys in the weight room either ignore me or treat me as their sister.

Now I'm fine with that but recently some girl joined my school weight room who wasn't really into the whole workout thing; she joined to err...meet guys.

And let's just say these guys lap it up.  I'm not saying that I want the weight room guys to check me out every time I go but seriously just because I actually want to workout doesn't mean I'm a guy - not to mention just because you guys have chick legs while I have muscular legs means I'm a guy.

So really, in your opinion girls with a bit of muscle, hot or not?

I think muscles, or at least tone and definition, are pretty attractive on a girl.  I personally think that athletic girls as a whole are much more attractive than those who aren't, though.

As long as you don't look like a body builder, muscle legs are sexy! If I had more muscle in my legs, I would think my legs were sexy. so keep on doing what you are doing and don't worry about it. I think those guys are just intimidated by a girl who works out a lot

Muscles on a girl are attractive to an extent. Once you start to get pipes bigger than my legs and no neck.. That isn't hot. And girls have to have boobs, too much muscle can make their shoulders broad and whatnot.

I think guys are intimidated by muscular chicks. The whole chivalry thing doesn't work then.. A girl who is beefy doesn't need a big strong guy to save her, while small petite girls do. I dunno, it is just a theory.

  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

It depends on how much muscle.

If a girl has like body builder muscles..  It's not attractive to me.

  • just_the_average_jane@xanga

Muscles are hot!  Girls can't really bulk up through ordinary workouts because they have less testosterone, so usually muscle = tone.  And tone/definition is good.

I agree with Undead_Sel --the issue here is probably less appearance and more attitude. Some guys love the whole "damsel in distress" thing and find it very attractive, since it makes them feel useful and masculine.  A girl who can take care of herself is more fun in the long run as a friend/partner, but less fun to flirt with in short term.

Pet peeve: girls/chicks/women/ladies who want to be equal and have equal access to every job a man does, but then go "ewww, she must be a dyke" when a strong, muscular, physically capable woman comes along.

Don't bitch about inequality when what you really mean is that you want a a desk job without the glass ceiling, but women in hard hats are just tolerable at best.

hey you cant please everyone no matter what. i just live as healthy as i can. so...there!!!

  • morganc75@xanga

I love working out, but I don't lift heavy weights because I don't think huge muscles are attractive.  I just want my arms and legs to be toned.  Some guys say girls with 6-packs are gross.  Those are always the guys who don't have a 6-pack of their own! lol

  • lovelikeanocean@xanga

they're probably just intimidated that you might be stronger or more toned than they are. keep doin' what you do as long as you don't get to like, body builder status. muscles make you look in shape and good.

  • decembriel@xanga

    @just_the_average_jane@xanga - Great comment!

I think some muscle definition and toning looks attractive, and that's what I aim for myself.  But huge bulky muscles (like body-builder types), especially in the upper body, will make a girl look less feminine--and I think femininity is an important part of what makes girls attractive.

  • LadyLibellule@xanga

Whatever floats your boat.  I don't think you should necessarily change just to become more attractive to some people, because you can't please everybody.  Some guys like obese women.  Does that mean we should all just throw in the towel and eat a case of doughnuts?

im kind of a yoga/ pilates person. all the muscle building and you stay lean and long. i really just do it cause it feels great and like 10 minutes two times a week makes a difference so you can still keep up a running/ weight regiment if you already have one.

  • methodElevated@xanga

Toned, lean and muscular (without being incredibly masculine) is extremely hot.

    In general, fit = hot.
  • abcxunt@xanga

i like my girls kind of gooey and soft. like marshmallows.

  • girl_lost_in_the_dark@xanga

I think if the muscles aren't huge it looks fine. If they are totally buff it is just plain creepy. the right amount of muscles is nice and is better than a bunch of fat right?

  • thepanged1@xanga

not that girls without defined muscles are not hot but girls with a bit of muscle....sizzling hot

  • TheSilverAngel@xanga

some muscles are attractive...but go too far, and it looks weird.

  • lovemecauseunoido@xanga

a disel chick with abbs and toned legs is sexy as hell. me and my boyfriend, on one of our first dates ran a triatholon together and hes been hooked ever since lol (about 6 months ago)

we train together when he is in brooklyn and when hes not we train and talk on the phone about how many miles we're running/swimming and how much weight we're pushing.

  • StylishMudd@xanga

having muscles is definitely sexy but not too much to be thought of as being close to or on steroids. but i prefer the "muscular" type of bods than anything else.

  • PenaltyLife@xanga

runner's legs are sexy. GO FOR IT.

i have semi muscular legs but scrawny arms. it works for me.

i'm sure you look amazing with your muscles, but maybe to a guy a girl lifting weights is intimidating? not usual? not something they find attractive? i don't mean the muscles, i mean the act of working out.

i really have no idea. haha

  • Not_a_real_site@xanga

I'm not a fan of muscles on females.  This definitely has its roots in my view of gender roles.  I associate muscles with masculinity and as I am not homosexual it becomes a turn off.  But as others have said you cannot be attractive to everyone.  All you can do is be happy with yourself.  Also what is your definition of "a bit" of muscle. The girl in the picture has very little muscle definition, she is in shape undoubtedly, but the only definition she has are her obliques and a slightly larger set of trapezius muscles.

  • StarlitGoodbyes@xanga

    What's it matter?

Look how you want and love how you look.

  • Razor851@xanga

Fit women are sexy, hands down. Some muscle on the upper body can go either way, hot or not.

  • PlainXJane@xanga

Hot!  Well, my opinion can't really count, as I'm also a girl and a runner, but I find it ridiculous that someone wouldn't find a woman attractive because she's strong.

  • EaTxYoUxALivE@xanga

its sounds like you really take care of yourself. i say, keep running! it will keep you healthy and youll thank yourself in the long term. just dont over do it, you need a life too.
