  • Help! The Changing Seasons Are Making Me Sick!

No matter what the season, when one ends and another begins, I get sick.

It doesn't matter if it's spring turning into the summer heat, or the fall leaves changing to winter snow - I cannot hide from a common cold, new allergies or a faint fever.

Of course my ailments never last long - as soon as the weather levels out, my symptoms magically disappear.  But until that time, I carry tissues and cough drops and a thermometer in my backpack.

What gives, health gurus?  I'm not allergic to anything, but I do seem to have some allergy symptoms (falling leaves and newly bloomed flowers make my eyes itchy).  My immune system is otherwise in great shape.

Does anyone else suffer with maladies when the weather turns?

What are some preventive measures that I can take to avoid a scratchy throat and runny nose when spring finally hits?

I suffer from very very light allergies. There isnt too much pollen in the desert, but all of the dust/dirt does annoy me.

The best thing you can do is raise your immune system defenses. Drink a lot of tea, water, and take a multi-vitamin. Eat vitamin rich foods as well. These things can improve you immune system greatly.

If your allergies are that bad though, you SHOULD see a doctor.

It happens to me as well, and interestingly, it generally happens when on the exact change of seasons and not necessarily when the weather changes.  I just put up with it.  I don't have allergies at all; for me it's generally the common cold and rarely the flu.  Since those are viruses, there's really nothing I can do, as living in a dorm also makes it really difficult to protect myself from sickness in the first place.

The weather is going from hot to cold so quickly in coastal Texas... its getting everyone sick! Reminds me of a certain Katy Perry song. XD

I use Zyrtec for my allergies.. and it works VERY WELL!
Also for a common cold I would use zicam at the first sign of it It works wonders!

@peacelove__CALLIE@xanga - Assuming that you could indeed "raise your immune system defenses", (which you certainly can not, especially by taking vitamin supplements), raising your immune sytem would lead to ............ ALLERGIES.

That's what allergies are, an overactive immune system!

This also happens to me. I'm actually suffering from the common cold as well.

It SUCKS. I have had it for almost a week.

I take echinacea like it's my job. That stuff is incredible and I drink "Naked" which is a smoothie that is FULL of fruits and Vitamin C.

Just avoid cold things. And consult with a good doctor. Be careful when season is going to change.

God, this has PLAGUED me for my entire life. No matter the season, no matter my age, hell, no matter what country I am in, the changing seasons ALWAYS get me sick. It only lasts for maybe 2 days, but I hate it sooooo much.
