Mom always told you to make sure you chew your food before you swallow.48-year old Boris Isayev choked to death after winning Russia's pancake eating competition, part of
Maslenitsa, Russia's end of winter/beginning of spring festival.
News
reports say that Isayev won, and then died on the spot when trying to collect his pancake award.

How do you feel about renowned food-eating contests, like the Maslenitsa's pancake eating competition, or Nathan's
hot dog eating contest held in July? Do you think they trigger bad eating habits, or are they all in good fun (until someone chokes and dies on their favorite food)?

Eating contests really gross me out, can't lie
I want pancakes now.
I think food contests are fun as long as the contestants are smart enough to know when to give up the contest and stop eating.
I think it's a disgusting show of gluttony. It's wasteful, unhealthy and as this case shows even life threatening.
bad eating habits but i guess it's for the fun / advertising?
i think eating competitions are so pointless. what do people prove by doing something as vulgar as stuffing food, God knows how much, in your mouth? how does this dignify a person?
i will never truly understand why a person would want to participate in an eating contest... O.O
They do what they want but I personally don't recommend professional eating for anyone else, nor would I engage in it myself.
Theres a jalapeno eating contest held here each year. Now thats cool!
But food eating contests really make me cringe.
this is weird..
yeah, i think food eating contests are pretty disgusting..
omh O_O
Unless the food is difficult to eat, I don't see the point.
You're pretty much just seeing who is the bigger fatass. =_=
Ive never seen one but I guess its just a bit of fun unless you really want the trophy then its abit more serious. x
If people who are malnourished and starving could witness such things, I'm sure they'd be appalled. There's really no reason for eating contests; they just showcase gluttony.
man that sucks.... poor guy. at least he snuffed it while he was on top
Wow. Poor guy. But at least he died doing something he loved...
I think eating contests are kinda gross. But have you seen Takeru Kobayashi? Dude is RIPPED (and kinda cute, lol). Not all competitive eaters are disgustingly fat.
I think they're lulzy.
And I enjoy being a gluttonous fat ass.for the most part I think the contests are okay, if it's some kid or local pie eating thing--but mostly, I agree that they're a waste of food. Somebody going hungry every day could use the pounds and pounds of food that people go through in the major contests.
One of those competitive eaters is a tiny little older woman (I think she's been in Nathan's hot dog contest too) who has won many times, so no, not everyone is heavy.
This is pretty sad for his family.
i think its kinda gross... but funny to watch. and some of the contestants are so SKINNY!!! you wonder where all the food goes...
He died doing what he loved, which was eating pancakes.
whoa!
That's so sad.
I think eating contests are pretty gross and unhealthy, but I guess once in a while it can be fun to watch.
food eating contests gross me out.
especially hot dogs. eww
Damn...Now I want some pancakes... Poor dude though, I think his jaw was too tired to chew that last piece. May he go to pancake heaven.
I watch the hot dog contest every year....and every year I am disgusted, but can't look away XD
Eating contests seem gluttonous, especially considering the children dying of malnutrition not only in third world countries, but in America and Europe as well.
And the exclamation point at the end of the blog title seems somewhat irreverant. We -are- discussing someone's death here.
