Cheap Birth Control Is Back!
I experienced the effects of Bush's policies, which took effect in December 2007, because I was still in college at that time. Before Bush's changes took effect, I could (and did) get birth control at my college health clinic for around $12 a pack; after Bush got involved it shot up to anywhere from $40 to $50 a pack. My question: how was this in any way helpful to society?! Birth control is the most fundamental way to keep population under control and women in control of their own lives—gasp! But yesterday, Congress passed a provision in its omnibus spending bill that will allow pharmaceutical companies to provide birth control at extremely discounted rates to college health centers. This low-cost law was in effect for a long time until Bush rescinded it after he passed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, which was all but completely unrelated to birth control in 2007.
Sneaky, Bush. Sneaky.
Oh well; the past is in the past.

Can you get birth control for cheap in your hometown? Aside from the pill, what other forms of birth control are easily available to you?

i don't know, but cigarettes are $8 now. not cool.
I live in Canada. Yay for free health care! My birth control is free =D
@SerenaDante@xanga - i envy you canadians (plans to move to British Columbia after community college)
I can get birth control pills for less than a dollar.
@SerenaDante@xanga - Damn Canadians. Flaunting their free health care. "Ooh, look at me. I don't wait until the last minute to go to the ER, cuz the country handles our bills." Blah.
Birth control for allllll. <3
Haha. I want to go to Canada one day.
Too young to need birth control. But I think they must be like $20 here.
I wish I could get some for cheap.
I got a year's supply of birth control for free from Planned Parenthood. =]
wow nice!
I got 3 months supply for free via Planned Parenthood. I will buy it no matter what the price.
I'm not on anything right now. I most likely will be soon, but I'm totally afraid of the gynacologist. And my mom won't let me go to a planned parenthood.
i'm on a generic pill, about 13-14 dollars for 3 months :]
If you think that Pharmaceutical companies aren't going to get that money back by charging more for other drugs which in turn will cause health care costs to go up which in turn will cause MORE money to come out of the pockets of people all over the country, you are wrong. It's nice that you are going to get your bill control pills at the expense of others.
This has brightened up my day. [:
i dont really use them actually o.O
Yeah, where I'm from you can get the pill at $12 a pack.
I get it for twenty dollars a month, AND it's shipped to my house for free every month! I love it.
I have the Mirena IUD, which was $89 out of my pocket, for a maximum of 5 years. I thank God for medical insurance.
@TakingxOverxMe@xanga - I wish I would have known where a Planned Parenthood place was when I started being "sexually active," haha.
I pay $8 a pack on my campus for a pretty generic and common brand. My sisters use the same brand, but my younger sister pays a few dollars more on her campus.
Keep in mind that Bush wasn't exactly a one man circus.
Bush didn't pass laws. Obama doesn't pass laws.
The Government passes laws.
I'm sorry, but I hate it when people blame solely the President for problems in society. (Democrat, Republican, Bush, Clinton, Obama, whatever - no partisan preference here, so no need to go crazy; when Obama does something stupid that no one likes and someone blames it all on him, I'll be saying the same thing)
It's like blaming your substantial rear end on a third of that donut you had for a snack... its only but a piece of the puzzle...
Anyhoo.... I took it quite a while ago to fix some period issues, but stopped when the issues resolved. I used the patch, which I got from my doctor, which was (mostly) covered by my insurance because it came prescribed from my doctor. I don't remember how much I paid though...
The insurance company might look at how its used, too, to determine if its covered. If you take it to prevent pregnancy, its more of a personal choice, than if you are taking it because you're sick. I don't know how insurance companies work... usually not in your favor, that much I know... grrr...
WHAT? What kind of 40 or 50 dollar BC were you on? From 06 till now I pay 7 dollars a month for my BC through my school pharmacy. That is messssed up paying that much. Even 12 sounds expensive to me since I pay almost half that!
@liljunebug28@xanga - But pro-abstinence programs were heavily favored in Bush's agenda. It's not a long stretch to assume he would have gladly siphoned off money from birth control funding to go to his "no sex until marriage" policies that worked out oh-so-well for that Palin girl.
planned parenthood is my bff when it comes to birth control
I think keeping the legs shut is a pretty good form of birth control (although I see that this high prices could be problematic when using it for hormonal purposes).
Yet another one of my childhood friends got pregnant this month, it's hard to see their lives change forever due to one moment of pleasure.
