  • President Obama Lifts Ban On Government Funded Stem Cell Research

On March 9, 2009, President Obama lifted the ban on government funded stem cell research originally put in place by the former Bush administration. With the ban, stem cell research was only allowed to be funded privately and done behind closed doors with little outside observation and regulations in place. Research information will now be forced to be public since trials will be using government money. Because of this, regulations can be set, procedures will be safer, and more research and trials can be conducted to find the most effective ways to harvest and manipulate the cells.

How do you feel about stem cell research? What issues arise with this ban being lifted? Do you feel it is a step in the right direction or a waste of time?
