Vegetarian Lifestyle Causes Sleepless Nights?
Last night, my brother reminded me of the time I tried to be a vegetarian.
I was in the 7th grade, so young, and I cared about nature a lot.
Anyway, I remember why I stopped. It was because I was having sleeping disorders.
My sleeping patterns were thrown off, there were sleepless nights, sometimes I woke up earlier than usual and I was tired throughout the day.
I started eating meat again, the sleepless nights stopped. I thought it was just me, so I brushed it off.
A few nights ago, I didn't eat any meat at all, and I realized that I couldn't sleep. I don't get it!
Does a vegetarian lifestyle cause sleepless night? Has this happened to you or anyone else you know?

I've never heard anything of the like before. Maybe your diet misses out on some vitamin or enough fat when you don't eat meat.
Never heard of that. I am vegan and I sleep just fine.Â
Im vegan and I finally have normal sleep.
You probably were not eating enough calories. A diet too low in calories can cause insomnia. So you may have been eating a lot but just not balancing it so you eat enough of the right kinds of vegetarian foods. Getting the proper nutrition on a vegetarian diet can be challenging for someone who is new to it.
i had sleep problems long before i stopped eating meat, generally my issues are things are bothering me .. thats why i never sleep.
I am vegetarian and I have no spleepin problems. When I had, it was because of nervosity .
It hasn't for me. I sleep just as poorly as I ever did.
that's really weird. i don't sleep well when my body is malnourished..but i don't sleep well regardless.
I've been a vegetarian all my life and have just started getting sleepless nights. Sometimes I'm just lying there for two hours just waiting to doze off, but I just can't. I'm always tossing and turning and wake up really early, around 5 or 6 AM everyday. I don't know, but I can't really change my lifestyle because I have never eaten meat and don't think I would want to go down that path. Maybe you should see a doctor regarding this.
I am a vegetarian, and I have insomnia. HOWEVER, I have been a vegetarian a lot longer than I have had sleeping issues, thus I don't believe the two to be connected.
No. That's a lie.
I was a vegetarian for like three years and I didn't have problems with sleeping.
i've never been able to sleep very well, before or after. But to think meat helps you sleep is sort of ridiculous, since protein can come from a variety of sources. More likely, you're not replacing it with the right foods or something which is throwing you off. And 7th graders normally don't know enough about health/nutrition to be "good" vegetarians.
At any rate I "sleep better" knowing I live a less guilty lifestyle, haha ;D
Vegetarianism helped me sleep, got me eating healthier and my nutrition was back in place. My face even looked better because I got more sleep.
What are you eating instead of meat? And when are you eating it?
The only thing I can think of is that meat stuffs you, and that can make you tired (think, Thanksgiving). But going to bed with a full stomach is incredibly unhealthy for your liver and your metabolism.
Ive been sleeping better since I cut meat out, but I don't think it is to do with what I am eating.
I have never heard of that at all. I would not be surprised if that was really the cause.
not really...
If meat puts you into a sleeping coma, that's not good.
With the vegetarian lifestyle you find that you have more energy. I can wake up as early as four AM on a sunday morning, and be filled to the rim with energy until I get to bed at eleven that night. I suppose you can say I sleep less, but that is because I am overloaded with energy.
I've been a vegetarian for 2 years, but recently i have been having sleepless nights constantly. i think it's cause of stress. But i do believe the reason you might've had sleepless nights or others do, it's maybe cause of the lack of iron or protein in your diet. Since you're lacking those from the meat, you need to stack up on it with replacements of those and vitamens.
If it is a dietary thing, it is likely because you are missing something in your diet because you didn't replace the meat with something balanced. I've been vegetarian for most of my life and I generally sleep pretty well.
My sister has a hard times sleeping sometimes, and she's a vegetarian.
That's odd. I'm vegetarian and I sleep just as fine as before. Perhaps it was something else.
<3
@echois23@xanga - I agree with this.
The only time I have problems sleeping and its related to diet is when I am not eating enough whether I eat meat or not.
Hmm, maybe it's just you... I've been a vegetarian for four years now, no difference in my sleep patterns than there used to be.
I was a vegetarian for like 6 months..and I had an amazing sleeping pattern
maybe it was something else :/
I've heard of many things about how being a vegetarian can change a person's sleeping habits as vegetarians (and all other herbivores in the animal kingdom, for that matter) require less sleep than carnivores and omnivores. Fact o' nature?
