Sunlight Leads to Good Eyesight
According to this article I read, the increase in nearsightedness may be due to lack of exposure to sunlight.
Doctors say that "the time children spend outdoors is the critical factor" to the health of a child's eyes.
Apparently sunlight encourages the release of dopamine, and dopamine inhibits eye growth, and excessive eye growth causes nearsightedness. It is saying that it does not matter what kind of indoor activities kids are doing, just that there are enough outdoor activities done. Just because you are reading or staring at a computer screen a lot, doesn't mean you are ruining your eyesight... You just need to get out more!
Have you ever heard that sunlight helps your eyes? Do you always wear sunglasses when you go outside?

If this is true, then I know a few people who will be blind before they're 19.
i almost never wear sunglasses, i try to get sun everyday. it also leads to a healthy brain.
Should've gotten more sunlight. But I'd have to say, after watching so many asian dramas on my computer and in marathons, my eyes got shitty the next day. You gotta exercise and move your eyes around too!
I was an outdoorsy kid and I'm terribly nearsighted... lies!
I'm legally blind without glasses, and I played outside a lot. I think the sun damaged my eyes, to tell the truth.
Correlation ≠causation. Dopamine release occurs even when people play video games or watch porn. If the correlation is that dopamine prevents myopia, then the world should eat more ice cream, watch more porn, and do nothing but things that trigger dopamine responses.
I haven't heard this. But I know sunlight is good for lots of other things.
I've never heard of this. If anything, I've always thought it was the exact opposite. Tanning salons are so big on wearing eyewear when you tan because it ruins your eyesight. I know that's not the same as being out in the sun but I assumed there was some kind of relationship between that & sunlight + eyes.
Its funny cuzzz,
my bestfriends eyes are now damaged because they didnt cover them in the sun.
SO , in some cases?
hmm
interesting, never heard that one before
That's BS. I played outside all the time when I was a kid and now I'm blind as a bat without glasses or contacts.
hmm... interesting since sunlight also causes cataracts. i was outside all the time as a kid and i'm extremely nearsighted. i just thought it was primarily genetic
I'm not convinced that sunlight is good for everyone's eyes. My eyes are really light-colored and as I get older they are extremely sensitive to light, especially the sun. To the point of causing headaches.
I never heard of this... but I get out almost everyday and walk for a good ten to fifteen minutes home sometimes WITHOUT sunglasses, so that counts.
@Dare2BDiferentt@xanga - WoW kids?
...sunlight can actually damage your eyes & cause cataracts. This is why I started wearing UV protection sunglasses last year. I don't buy this theory.
I don't know that this is completely true. It's obviously a good idea to get a good enough amount of sunlight for the sake of your body, and it might have some to do with eye sight, but I think it'd probably be mostly up to genetics. It's plausable that it might perpetuate the eye problems but i doubt cause a problem if you aren't out enough.
i haven't heard that actually but it doesnt sound impossible.
and yes i wear sunglasses everytime i'm outside! plus, it's a great accessory :p haha
My doctor recommends me to wear sunglasses when I go outside (I live in a very sunny place). I'm at risk for retinal detachment.
