To Supplement, or Not to Supplement
(Do you use it?)
Every one of my friends that works out always tells me to use Protein powder. And I have, once, and it was amazing. I felt stronger, faster, more awake, but I don't think I would want to keep flooding my body with ready to use proteins, and then have the flush out when I'm done.
But I'm sure there must be a healthier alternative.
Would you continue to use it if it was making your feel stronger, faster and more awake? Do you use any products to get extra protein?

If it was doing all of that for me, then yes i would as long as it doesn't compromise my health. the only thing that i use to get extra protein is eat morningstar vegetarian foods.i also take a all-natural multivitamin from just once naturals.
Yeah, it's called sleep. Most people aren't getting enough of it.
@applebottomjeans08@xanga - Morning Star makes the BEST food (and so much better than Boca). I'm always blown away by their quality. It's nice to get complete vegetable protein in a great-tasting way. I recently bought a package of their imitation bacon; I'm hoping it's as convincing as their ground burger and chicken strips (amongst others!).
If it had that effect I'd be using it every day. Now I want to try it out, ha.
@ yipz haha I don't know what protein powder you are taking that is making you more awake..... but I bet it has a load of crap in it. And what do you mean "flush out"?
And protein powder doesn't hurt your body... it's just another form of complete protein entering your body. And if you get the kind that is only whey, it is absorbed quickly... perfect to provide your body with amino acids for a workout and perfect for after to replenish your muscles.
Yipz... you need to double check your info before saying something is wrong with a supplement! I'm pretty sure that whey protein is in drinks like ensure and stuff for elderly people who cannot get enough protein and nutrients as well.
The only way you'd hurt your body is by taking protein powder as your main source of protein because you're not getting any of the other nutrients of regular foods.
Also, there are also complete protein powders for vegetarians too that are made out of peas!!! Some taste good, some don't lol
If anyone has any real questions about protein powders, just drop by my xanga. I'm deep into nutrition, supplementation, training, and rest.
Screw it... I'm just going to write a real article on protein powders lol... how it works, the effects, what kinds there are... etc... with links to actual studies... supplementation can be a really awesome thing but needs to be done properly and might not even be needed unless a person really exhausts their muscles.
yay.
what do you mean by flush out?
im thinking of gettign some protein powder b/c at the rate im running + working out im not consuming enough protein for my muscles to rebuild/recover properly considering i don't really eat all that much meat...
protein powder isnt steroids haha its just protein!
Just don't fill up your body with dangerous & illegal chemicals.
I eat protein. Amazing, huh? Foods with a high amount and bars. They're wonderful.
No powders for me.
protein is a must, no brainer. Now, how about creatine.
@methodElevated@xanga - i never knew that they had imitation bacon.lol.my fav food from them are their chicken nuggets :)
I've never tried it but I've been thinking about trying it...
@methodElevated@xanga - holy crud, agreed. Morningstar is some sort of god in packaged form. Jason makes massive fun of me for eating this stuff, but I like it. I'm not a vegetarian, but I often get my protein this way. And yes, I've started to protein-powder supplement too.
