I think 8. Its really as long as I can convince myself that the pain feels good.

What do you mean "endure"?  I could survive a 10... doesn't mean I wouldn't be screaming my head off, though.

I would say 9.5 after having gone through 4 totally unmedicated natural childbirths. LOL...and yes, LadyLibellule, with one of the births (the last one), I almost screamed my head off and was ready to meet my Maker.

emotional?  10 ... been there done that ... wife's cancer .. daughters birth....

physical? .. whatever it takes... or i pass out ... @LadyLibellule@xanga - and lol like you said.. would most like be screamin head off as well

Isn't it all relative?  I mean, one person's 10 could be another person's 4.  I don't even know what my pain tolerance is, since I have (luckily) not yet experienced anything that I'd call a 10.

I guess a 9.  I had to have an emergency appendectomy and while Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey did test after test...just to make sure it really was my appendix going bad...I refused all pain meds.  Even after the surgery I told them no meds, just leave me alone and let me heal.  Not saying it didn't hurt...just not enough to justify hardcore pain meds they were trying to give to me.

I would say 9.5.... i been through a major back surgery and I only managed to take 2 pain pills after that...........

    I'm so cool :P  jk

Hmm I have no idea. Physical Therapy for my ACL after surgery (the NEXT day) was pretty painful and apparently it's even worse than giving birth... but I'm not sure. The reason why it was so painful was because they told me to bend my knee when I couldn't even do it... took me a month before I bent it all the way. I might be able to handle 8 or something. One thing I don't want to do it break my femur because it is said to be one of the most painful experiences.

I think the scale is subjective. but i can probably take an 8.

I'm a complete wimp when it comes to physical pain. Emotional pain is another story. I've been through a lot emotionally with severe depression and anxiety and multiple hospitalizations...

I think I can honestly say 10. After having brain surgery at the end of April, I thought I had been through some awful pain. By the end of May, I developed worsening, severe headaches that I brushed off as being part of the healing process from surgery. By May 22, it was obvious that there was something wrong - the pain had been officially a "10" on the scale for more than 48 hours. Got to the ER and turns out I had post-operative meningitis. If I can endure a meningitis headache for days without treatment, I think I could survive almost anything. Though I must say that the arsenal of pain meds followed by a lumbar puncture to relieve the pressure may have been the most heavenly feeling I've ever experienced.

8...when I was in the hospital for my breast augmentation and liposuction back in December '08 they told me before I was knocked out that they would ask me many times in recovery "on a scale of 1 to 10, how is your pain level?" I don't remember them asking me in the recovery room when I woke up (I was still dopey), but I do remember loudly and painfully announcing, "8! 8! I'm at an 8!" hahaha damn, well worth it though

  • pillowpixies@xanga

One being something like a strained muscle and ten being something like child birth, I'd say I'm either a 2 or a 3. I can handle a ten, but.. I don't know how well I'd handle it.

  • Lulabell_88@xanga

Hmm... I think the chronic pain I deal with on a daily basis might be another person's 5 or 6, but for me, I just got used to the pain. I'd probably rate my daily pain as a 2 or 3 on my scale, because it bothers me a lot and keeps me from doing things, but I know I could be a lot worse off.

I hope to never feel any worse pain, and since I don't plan on childbirth I really plan not to!

Depends on the type of pain and if I know I'll have any relief any time soon.

Usually up to an 8 for most short-term physical pain, I think, although I'll typically pop an Advil or two at around 5 (or 1 if it's menstrual pain to catch it early -- I get terrible cramps).  Anything beyond 8 and I absolutely need some sort of strong pain medication or knowledge that the pain will soon subside.   For everyday chronic pain, I would probably deal with up to a 6.

I can deal with a 10 (or beyond) with emotional pain and bounce back.

  • Audiofreak18@xanga

    10. I have a very high pain tolerance. I live with near constant pain that I would about an 8 everyday.

  • they_call_me_steffyjean@xanga

    Like a four ... maybe a five ... I'm a big baby.

@September_Wifey@xanga - That brain surgery pain is horrible; pre-op pain is definitely worse. I have hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and my shunt was broken last June...try cerebrospinal fluid constantly building up with nowhere to go...the skull is a closed container and can only fit so much. They fed me morphine like it was IV candy - knocked me out; didn't touch the pressure or pain.

Because of this, I'm pretty sure I can say 10. I had gone to school two days before the surgery and was functioning fine.

I have no fear of pain.  hit by a car, shunt taps, migraines from the shunt malfunctioning, IV needles(my limit).  You name it I can take it
