Diet is DIE with a T
I saw a post on healthkicker a while ago that claimed Slim-Fast was a great way to lose weight. I completely disagreed. But I thought it'd be unfair of me to bash a product I had never tried. So I put myself on the Slim-Fast diet for one week. I replaced all my lunches with a can of Slim-Fast Strawberry Supreme. Laugh! This is in the name of RESEARCH.
I don't know why. I felt embarrassed and didn't want people to see me drinking this product. The large name plastered on the can seemed to scream out "I THINK I'M FAT". I don't think I'm fat. I quite like my body. But I found myself covering the can with a bag. Forbid anyone see it! Or I'd drink it in hiding. How anti-social!
The product claims 4 hours of hunger control. LIES oh my god LIES. I seriously need real physical food that will fill my tummy. If you look at the ingredient list, there are tons of names that I can't even pronounce. It's not a natural product. And I disliked the taste. I could taste the added vitamins, as if a Flintstone chewable was dissolved inside!
This is why I disagreed with healthkicker's post. This diet is not feasible in the long-term. Kill me if I have to drink Slim-Fast for the rest of my life! Even if any weight loss occurred due to a decrease in overall calorie intake, the weight will very easily be regained if one returns to their regular unhealthy eating habits. Healthy eating should be a life-long habit and goal. Not a simple quick fix or fad diet.
I would recommend Slim-Fast to people who do not eat breakfast and need something convenient and on-the-go that is not too filling. It is full of nutrients, protein, and fiber, and I hear that the cappucino flavor is quite tasty!
It's a business. A company wanting to make money. They use marketing tricks like... paying healthkicker to endorse them? (editor's note: nope we don't get paid by companies for users writing about it, but that would be awesome if we did!) And all the "success stories" on Slim-Fast's website say in small print: "Results not typical". I hate tricks!
It's important to take everything with a grain of salt. Everyone is different. When it comes to diets, ask yourself, "Can I eat like this way for the rest of my life? Do I want to eat this way for the rest of my life?"
Have you ever tried Slim Fast? How long can you go on Slim Fast and without real food?

I don't do Slim Fast, it's a crutch. I'd rather watch what I eat and work out harder. That's the only way to go, and you don't spend money on Slim Fast.
I tried several years back when I wasn't a big breakfast eater. I agree, that it works well as a non-breakfast substitute. It was just enough to pull me through to lunch.I lost some weight, but I was working out a lot, too, so there's no guarantee it was the drink.
Never tried it, never will. It's easier to just eat properly.
I had either Slim Fast or Luna bars for lunch for a couple of years while dieting and then maintaining. It's not particularly bad as part of a mini-meal strategy, since I had an afternoon snack planned for when I got hungry again. Main problem is it does have a lot of sugar and isn't particularly natural, but it's definitely better than a lot of what you could be eating on the go.
Just do sports. It's fun, it's physical, it's totally healthy! Unless you are into extreme sports.
Ugh I know the shakes are disgusting! The bars aren't too bad but ya it was the grossest thing ever. You might as well eat a sandwich with the same amount of calories and doesn't taste disgusting.
I tried if for a few months a few years ago and saw NO results. I need to eat a nice big breakfast in the morning to feel full and stay alert. The shakes didn't do that at all.
I've had Slim Fast milkshakes before, but never as my sole source of intake for a day. I'll just have it like once every few months for a snack in between meals or as part of a meal. I could never just drink Slim Fast alone for a week straight. I doubt many people actually do that.
So true..Slimfast works for weight loss is you drink it for the rest of your life. I think the only way to lose weight is diet and exercise, and for most people it involves nasty tasteless food and high intensity interval training. Basically an enormous amount of discomfort and unpleasantness.
I don't believe in diet and starving yourself to loose weight. I am a vegeterian and since I have been vegterian I noticed I feel a whole lot better I have enegry. I also do Yoga and Pilates. I noticed the change in my body. I try to eat more organic foods. Trader Joe's is my favorite place to shop.
All those diet pills and drinks are B^^%@#*& in my opion. If you want to loose weight work out and change the way you eat. Weight lost in not a diet put a true alternative way of changing your life.
Process food is the worse thing to eat, I don't eat a lot of diary I replace it with soy. I try to drink a whole lot of water. Meat is the worse thing you can do to your body. Beff rots in your stomach for 30 days before it actually digests in your stomach.
xoxox Inayah
After I had my son I used Slim Fast. Not to gain weight, but due to my C Section I had NO appetite, it made me sick to my stomach to think about food. I was breastfeeding, so i needed SOME nutrients in my body.
So I drank it getting used to mother hood.
Other then that, I would not drink it for an actual diet. I prefer actual food. Give me a apple over that tar any day.
I couldn't drink it so I ate the bars... and I never will again. I don't think I could even if I wanted to.
A diet never lasts.
I like to throw them into my diet sometimes (when I say diet, I mean how I eat day to day, not an actual diet) as a snack, or part of a meal. I think Slim Fast works well as an addition to the food I eat, especially if I'm in a hurry. I could never actually do their diet plan though... not for long. I don't always think short-term diets are bad if the extra weight came on because of short-term over-eating (such as pregnancy, surgery that prevented much activity, or a really emotional event that caused someone to start eating too much as a way to cope) as a way to jump-start weight loss and resume a healthy, normal eating plan.
yeah, slim-fast is disgusting. i make fun of anyone who buys or drinks that shit because its so ridiculous
I love slimfast for breakfast. I am not a morning breakfast person and so I've turned to it in order to get something in me for the morning.. but I agree, there is not 4 hours of hunger control, and I supplement it with a banana, and I'm still hungry long before 4 hours..
I used Slimfast to help me lose weight when I was 14... it worked... I learned healthy habits gradually, I'm glad I had Slimfast to help me. :P I do drink it still as a quick breakfast occasionally though.
A friend´s friend used to drink it, and one day she left the glass outside of the fridge overnight. When she went to the kitched in the morning there were some strange little balls on the beverage, so she took them to a lab so that could do some tests to that stuff. Turns out those little balls were parasitic worm eggs. Ughh, talk about some nasty concoction =S.
If the ingredients are in English and I can't pronounce it, I try to stay away from it.
I actually think the shakes taste good but they do not work. That "controling 4 hours of hunger" is not true. I like the bars, they are much more sufficient for hunger control than the shakes.
I've tried it, but I didn't like the way it tasted and in the end there weren't any results.
Ha, my surgeon recommended it for when I had my jaw broken and re-set. It's nasty, I think I'll stick with Boost or Ensure. I actually gained weight on the Slim Fast (keep in mind that "nutrient drinks," broth, and apple sauce were the only things I was allowed to eat for 3 weeks).
Agreed. Exercise is better for everyone, not shakes that are supposed to make you magically lose weight.

Perhaps it varies from person to person. I wouldn't want to live on those shakes.
You might want to look at Celebrity Slim. My friends sister went on it for about 7 weeks and lost 10 kgs, which is over 20lbs? It's not easy, living on those powdered shakes for that long and no carbs :S It's not cheap either, about 50 AUD for one week's worth of CS.
