Diet Help: Eating When You're Bored
This summer I want to lose weight. The only problem is that when I'm bored, I turn to food. I try to just watch T.V. but with all the ads for "Pasta Primavera", "3 for 99 cents!", in between the ads for Bally Fitness, I end up just thinking about food more while feeling bad about eating it!
How do I end this bad habit? Also, what are some cheap activities I can to avoid boredom?

What a coincidence. I just wrote a post on this today! It's about emotional eating and how to break the cycle:

I hope that helps! :)
THIS is exactly what my problem is. :(
I eat and eat and eat and eat when I'm bored.
So my advice is...don't get bored!
:P
drink some tea instead of food. it has 0 calories and if you add honey to sweeten it, it's very little harm done. it also fills you up and keeps your stomach warm/full.
also, instead of sitting around being bored... you COULD walk around
Focus more on healthy foods and spend more time shopping, cooking and eating stuff from your local farmer market. Also you can start a free blog to keep yourself busy and document your journey.
i tend to have the same problem too. that's why i sleep when i am feeling bored or have nothing to do these days. i realized when i sleep, my cravings go away.
YEA! i hate this the most. especially when you have left over beer that was supposed to have been drunk already, but your just getting to it.
watching tv always leads to snacking a ton..so do something else instead. active things like walking, riding your bike, going swimming. or if you have to watch tv, exercise during commercials and keep your mouth busy drinking tea water or juice
i have that problem too! whenever i watch TV or read a book, i feel like eating something so what I do is not to store any junk food in my room so i can keep away from swallowing lots of calories eventually!
I have that problem also! I try to do something that takes my mind off of it, like going for a walk or reading (at least there aren't tempting commercials when you read). If you must eat something, make it something healthy like grapes and raw veggies or something that will take a long time to eat so you don't keep reaching for more, like a frozen banana or a lollipop.
reading others blogs is the way for me to stop thinking about food
just do stuff, eg going to the library (just dont stay at home too much)
don't buy junk food! lol. get some fruits and healthy food instead and prepare them. so next time, you can just grab those instead. :]
I love to scrapbook when I am bored, writing poetry, painting, studying for a certification, I spend time on the computer when I am bored too. If I have major food cravings I chew sugar free gum which helps a lot. I don't keep junk food in the house if I can help it. IF there IS junk in the house I put it on the shelves higher up so it's not at my eye level. I keep fruits & homemade snacks readily available to decrease my likelyhood of ordering in junk food as well.
Hope this helps.
Try drinking water the next time you're convinced you're hungry. It might just do the trick.
i bought a huge bag of sunflower seeds. that way you eat healthy and do some snacktivity.
@crazysogul@xanga - All that salt! haha but ya I don't know how to suggest otherwise, either. So (whistling) haha
Aaah, if you're watching T.V. and want to eat, I'd just chew gum.
Eat naked celery! If you just eat that then you'll be losing weight like crazy.
Take up a new hobby. I particularly like piano and knitting.
Don't buy anything that goes from package to edible in less than 10 minutes. You want to eat, you gotta go through the effort of cooking it.
I have the same problem!! I just drink water or iced tea or something instead of eating. Or I find some activities to do.
@chickie111@xanga - Sounds good!
You should really eat smaller meals throughout the day. So if you're hungry because you haven't eaten in 3-4 hours then eat! If eating is just something to do to keep from being bored then do something that you won't be able to stop in the middle of to eat. Paint your nails, wash your dog, call a talkative friend, apply fake bake... lol You get it.
i read in weight watchers that a nutritionist recommended her patient to get legos and build stuff with them in order to not be bored and eat mindlessly. I'm gonna get a bucket one of these days....
