I am sure this will be an unpopular post with women but somehow instinctively I know this has to be true!
A man's chances of dying early are cut by a fifth if their bride is between 15 and 17 years their junior.
The risk of premature death is reduced by 11 per cent if they marry a woman seven to nine years younger.
The study at Germany's Max Planck Institute also found that men marrying older women are more likely to die early.
The results suggest that women do not experience the same benefits of marrying a toy boy or a sugar daddy. Wives with husbands older or younger by between seven and nine years increase their chances of dying early by 20 per cent. This rises to 30 per cent if the age difference is close to 15 and 17 years.
Scientists say the figures for men may be the result of natural selection – that only the healthiest, most successful older men are able to attract younger mates.
Another theory is that a younger woman will care for a man better and therefore he will live longer. I attest to this theory myself.
Do you think it's true? What's the age difference between your parents? What about you and your significant other?

this explains why hef from playboy is always with barely legal girls.
he wants to live longer :P
My boyfriend is 8 years older than me, people wouldn't guess he's 30, more like 24-25.
My mom is exactly one week older than my dad. ha
My parents are 7 years apart but my dad keeps insisting my mom will bring him to an early grave at least in their arguments.
I dont put much stock into these reports. Not to say it cant be true but I bet some idiot will use this as an excuse to marry some girl younger than him.
Could be mostly a culture thing? Did they break it down by the living trends per demographic and area?
It doesn't completely surprise me; the best thing for a man to do healthwise is get married according to several studies.
Sounds good to me.
I think this is crap. I've had many family members marry women at least 7 years younger, some even past 10 years younger, and they died before the average man typically dies. If it is the "younger women take better care of them" thing, then that's not so much to do with age as their personalities. That leaves it open for the older women to be just as caring, and younger women to be just as "uncaring" of their spouses. I'd have to see definite scientific proof, with a concrete reason for it, to believe this whatsoever or give it a second thought.
i like to date older men but 5 years tops. i guess those girls who are marrying these way older men are either having daddy issues or just waiting for him to pass so she can inherit his money.
correlation vs causation? That is definitely the case.
I never dated anyone who was too much younger than me, I had a 12 year age gap - I'm 30 it didn't lst very long. I guess you have to be over 60 to have something in common with someone of a 10 year + age gap. My parents know a couple where the guy is 65 and his wife is 45. Maybe its a more mature secret! lol
*drop mouth! :O That's not fair!
My parents are about ten years apart or more. However, I've noticed that both of my parents are incredibly active and healthy. My father is 60 years old and works like he's 30. He may be getting old, but he's got no problems. He takes no medication on a daily basis and is in excellent health. My mother also. This may be true about men who marry younger women. I have no idea. lol
That is interesting... I'm sure there will be more research on this one...
Can't believe everything you hear or read. There have been so many studies that have gone back on what they originally said, it's ridiculous. I was married to a man 13 years older than me for ten years, I was so unhappy, I'm sure if I would've stayed with him, I'd be dead now.
I was with someone 2 years older than me, he's dead now.
Now I'm with someone who's 8 years older than me, we're very happy and plan to get married. Never been so happy and healthy before... :0)
Does it have to do with stations or age in life? Maybe. Does it have to do with state of mind? Absolutely.
I kinda would have to agree with mewithoutu77@xanga"s comment... :0)
Its because the older men feels challenged >:] and try to outlive their spouse xD lol
or... its the boring answer >.> you know "live together die together" that kind of sappy stuff, or that they feel that since they're older they need to get in shape to be deserving of such a beautiful young lady >.>
I think I've heard that if you hang around with younger people (no matter what your sex) you'll age more slowly. I guess youth can rub off on others. So older men living longer with younger women makes sense.
Not unpopular with this woman - I love older guys! Haha.
My parents are 6 years apart, and my babes is 6 months older than I am.
My father recently remarried (last year) a woman who was exactly 20 years his junior. He happened to put a ring of the finger of Bitchzilla.
I agree on the Hef from playboy comment lol.. I find this interesting.. but not sure stats are stats.. could be true at the same time could be not true.. there just numbers on paper somewhere..
.. my parents are 4 yrs apart, dad older, and my grandparents are exactally nine months apart my grandma being older then my grandpa.. (they will be 89 n 90 this year!!!
!!!)
My boyfriend is 7 yrs older then me,and I always said I wouldn't go older then like 4-5 tops. but no one really knows he's that age.. soo it's all good for me
So will I live younger if I marry someone who is 18 and I'm 74?
just a question...
I don't see why women would be insulted by this post. my anthro teacher said that men live longer if they marry because wives encourage their husbands to visit the doctor more frequently.
my dad is 3 years older than my mum. between me and my significant other i am older by 3 months and we are happy i cant say how long we will live for tho :3
