In one of our
recent posts, Gentemann, told us that guys don't use the word diet. Some of the comments gave us the impression that people think of different things when they hear the word "diet".

"I maintain a "diet." In my personal experience, I find it easier and more fun to work weight off, rather than sacrificing a lifestyle. Of course, I don't exactly eat 45 cheeseburgers a day or anything but I've never really understood why women are so inclined to starvation. You eat normally (which is ample amounts of everything and not too many sweets) and you do some form of physical activity. Simple as that. Starving myself seems just a little bit irrational when I'd rather be doing push ups or something."Yipz said:

What do you think of when you hear the word diet?

i think of beluga whales and chipmunks.
and food..or course..
Merely food. No restrictions, no limits, just whatever you eat and drink.
What you consume.
a diet is just all the foods that you eat; everything you consume is part of your diet. but i think that when people say that they'er "on a diet" though, it usually implies that they're starving themselves (read: eating less or limiting the types of food they consume) or following some hollywood dieting scam. for me- i would never "go on a diet" because my diet itself is already healthy. i guess i'm already "on a diet" then...? i think that makes sense....
the word "diet" just has such a negative social stigma in society, and i don't use that definition at all when i apply it to my daily life. it's just the stuff that i eat! >:O
I think of a specific plan for weight loss first and what you eat on a daily basis second.
i think a fad that people i know will labor through until they give up on a week later. sorry i sound so cynical but i see it all the time in my life. but i guess it makes me work harder to incorporate my goals into an actual lifestyle. i wouldn't want to fall into that category.
The problem is that "diet" means 2 different things. In science it means everything eaten. In daily life, though, it means temporary change in eating habits for some goal (usually weight loss). I hate the word and this confusion, so I stopped using the word diet on my blog and now use the word healthstyle.
portion control and cutting out the junk from real food.
Personally, when I see the word "diet", I see the word "die" with a marker (t) already placed there for you. Hahahaha.
But seriously, when I think of the word "diet", I don't think of a period of controlled eating OR starvation. I actually hate that meaning of the word. My mom put me on countless diets back in high school. Not exactly the best way to boost my self-esteem, lol.
"Diet" to me is what you eat, period.
Random answer, sorry. Lol.
A diet is what you eat. If your ON a diet thats when your controlling what food you consume with the purpose of loosing weight or maintaining a weight.
Hell.
I call my "diet" my lifestyle because it's something I live by day in and day out. It will never change either which is also why I call it a LIFE-STYLE - because I am in it for life and I happen to think it's stylish! ha ha!
