What? Toothpaste Can Prevent You From Balding?!
I have a friend who worries way too much about going bald. I mean, I understand balding is every man’s or even woman’s worst nightmare, but I’ve heard it’s normal to lose about 100 strands of hair a day. My friend is still in his twenties, has no family history of balding, but he acts as though he’ll start some trend. His worries seem even more unfounded considering, he DOES have A LOT of hair. I take extra care not to bring up any hair-related topics. His excessive worrying is contagious- sometimes I become paranoid about losing hair. Whenever I seem to find a little more hair falling out in the shower, I freak out.
While I was finding ways to soothe him, I saw a Korean TV show on DVD, which is literally translates into “OMG, how is this possible?” It’s a famous television show in Korea that features several surreal stories that happen in people’s lives. One of the stories I saw that day was about this Korean guy who was looking for ways to prevent balding. After years of continuous research, he finally found a unique way that not only prevented him from losing hair, but also helped him regrow his hair. He showed his before and after picture and boy, did he look different! I could hardly believe it was the same person! He looked like he was wearing a wig! Both reporters and the show’s audiences were amazed. So, what was his magic trick? It was toothpaste.I bet a lot of you who are reading this had the same reaction as me—Whaaa?!!
I know. It’s hard to believe. But it’s true!
I don’t exactly remember how he came up with this idea, but he said he’s been using this technique every day for over three years, and that’s how he got most of his hair back.
As soon as I saw this, I called my friend and told him about it. He didn’t seem to believe me at first, but he said he would give it a try. In fact, I got curious and tried, too.
That night, I squeezed a little bit of toothpaste (about the size of a nickel) on to my hand, and then softly massaged it into my scalp in the shower. It felt a little weird, but the minty smell and tingling sensation felt very fresh. But the problem was no matter how many times I shampooed to rinse it out, the smell of the toothpaste was just too strong and wouldn’t go away. I’ve heard that mint stimulates blood flow, which could be one of the reasons why toothpaste worked for him. Then how about other mint substitutes, such as mint shampoo, conditioner, or even peppermint oil? I’ve never heard about anyone regaining their hair using mint hair products. Have you? What do you do to prevent hair loss?

haha wow that's interesting. maybe i should show this to my rather quickly balding friend. i never knew that actually o.O
Tea tree and eucalyptus shampoos are very popular and recommended for lots of conditions. My boyfriend uses a tea tree shampoo to combat his itchy, oily scalp. The mintiness definitely stimulates bloodflow and leads to a healthier scalp :)
So, to cut it short, put toothpaste on your head and "keep your hair." Possibly.
You either A) Walk around smelling like toothpaste or B) Run the risk of going bald.
I'll go with B, for the win.
Massaging stimulates bloodflow too.
I rotate between 3 different kinds of toothpaste for my sensitive teeth. I also have very thin and fine hair but I'm scared that using my special toothpaste would like....fry it or make it all fall out. Is there one specific brand that you would recommend?
wow that's really interesting! I just try to not tie my hair up because that breaks and pulls on individual hairs and i also don't wash my hair every day.
I've heard about the losing 100 hairs a day thing. but i think we also only have 10000 hairs on our head. hair growth is so slow. how does it make up for the hair loss???
@lizzie_wizzie@xanga - i think it is 50-100 hairs all over your body, not just your head.
@quiet_strength@revelife - ohhh okay. there does seem to be a lot of hair on all girls' bedroom floors tho. we shed like crazy =.=
this is not something i would risk doing for the sake of hair loss. toothpaste has a whole lot of fluoride in it and putting that much on your head in the shower when your pores are open allows for a lot to get into your bloodstream. fluoride is more toxic than lead. i am sure if the 'tingling' to make your blood flow is what stimulates hair growth there are other methods of doing that that are not so dangerous. but i don't buy it anyway.
oh and ps. i used to lose a ton of hair in the shower, but now i very rarely use shampoo to wash my hair, i use a natural olive oil or goat milk soap, and i have noticed i lose way less hair in the shower and in general. it makes me wonder if shampoo encourages hair loss.
interesting...
i heard EATING toothpaste also prevents one from getting the swine flu.
I call bullshit.
Haha, wow. Very interesting.
well the mint is good for the scalp, but if you gonna use mint shampoo (head and shoulders makes one) or peparmint oil( the oil on it's own would be too strong so I reccomend just adding a bit to your normal shampoo) you would still smell like mins and in other words like toothpaste...
Hmmm, I have mint plants. I'll rub the leaves on my head every night before I go to bed and blog about it if it works.
