  • People Really Want To Be Skinny?

Yesterday we featured a post comparing skinny vs strong. Many of the commenters preferred skinny over strong.

I was very surprised because I thought the famale commenters would opt to take strong over skinny. One of the reasons why I think many chose skinny was because of the picture we posted of a female lifting weights instead of an average strong girl.  I'm not sure that's the exact case here but pictures tend to shape how we think about certain things.

Personally Id take strong any day.  It doesn't have to include bulging muscles.  People can be wiry strong.  Being skinny doesn't necessarily mean someone is healthy.  All it does is give the impression someone is but for all we know they could be out of shape with a very fast metabolism. That could be the case for someone that's strong as well but a physically strong person maintains a certain level of fitness to keep the strong body and are usually in much better health than most.

So we'll change it up and offer  two different pictures that look very similar from yesterdays post but this time with a strong women that's doesn't have bulging muscles.

      VS.

So now again we ask, would you still want to be skinny over strong?

I'd rather be fit and healthy. Caring about myself, eating healthy and exercising would give me the benefit of being skinny (or at least slim) which is not true the other way, skinny does not always equal healthy. By choosing strong, I can be both.

I'd rather be fit and healthy.

  • Erika_Steele@xanga

Honestly, I understand your point, but what do you have against being skinny?  What you mean to ask is do you want to have a weak and damaged body due to starvation or have a healthy and fit body. Obviously I'd rather be strong but based on just those pictures, I'd rather look like Kiera because it is more realistic for my frame.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't go about losing weight the healthy way. I go by diet and exercise; but it's all to the extreme and thus probably not very good for me. However, I've hardly ever desired the uber-uber-skinny look but instead, always strive for a more 'very-slim-but-with-muscle-definition' particularly where abs arms and legs are concerned. I mean, I still want to have strength to play sports and exercise and 'skinny' sometime doesnt allow that. Particuarly if unhealthy.

Therefore I'd probably say I'm kinda sat on the fence; but leaning everso slightly over the strong side of it.

I'd rather be a fullbody, fit and healthy. I was skinny once, it wasn't that fun to be honest. Ever since I filled out, I've noticed I was happier and everyone around me was happier in response.

Also, I'd prefer having a girl friend that was also fit and healthy over being skinny. I don't want to feel like Im going to break the poor thing...

  • pillowpixies@xanga

Well, have you noticed that in both cases, you used glamorous looking women to represent the skinny ones, and regular looking women to represent the strong ones? That could play some kind of role too.

I'm going to keep my vote of strong and skinny in a healthy fashion.

  • sixpackchica@xanga

sorry but again those are not equal pictures at all.  keira knightly (sp?) is a skinny girl ICON, so most girls adore her and would chose her no matter who is in the other picture.  also, the girl representing strength is not in a very flattering position and you can't even see her face.  you need to find a hot strong girl... that's what inspires me.  if you go to my site you'll see what i mean as i have tons of pictures which portray a strong, lean type of beauty.  that is what i prefer and looking similar to that is my personal goal.

  • sweetmumbleb@xanga

i'd rather be HEALTHY, whatever that looks like.

  • wanderingXwondering@xanga

Many women will pick skinny over strong because of this....
::points out photos to bf and asks what do you think of these two women?::
    "she's hot" ::pointing to jaslene::
"I dont like a girl who could kick my ass' ::pointing to weightlifter.
The truth is, we're not stupid.  A lot of us, I'm sure would prefer to be HEALTHY.  But if you want that guy, you better make sure you look like what he wants, and guys present to us the idea that THEY want skinny instead of strong.

    Are you really that surprised?

And what a picture of Kiera Knightly in "Domino"?  That is a picture of a strong, skinny, healthy woman.

i'd rather be sexy with some natural curve and body than either of those.

  • stalkdebbie@xanga

strong, healthy and active and beautiful ahahay

  • DarcKleer@xanga

I don't wanna be skinny like bones sticking out and stuff. I'd rather be toned and  healthy looking.

  • AnchorsAway_Lays@xanga

    definitely skinny over strong.

  • StylishMudd@xanga

well, truthfully, i prefer skinny. But I have nothing against those who prefer to be strong and that like to eat healthy. I'm just too messed up in my mind to not give a shit of how I treat my body.

  • Losingmyfatass@xanga

Strong any day, as long as I'm also healthy.  My goal of a normal BMI has nothing to do with being skinny.

Kiera Knightly is very pretty though... I tend to look at people's faces more than bodies when I am judging how beautiful someone is.

  • aalyceh@xanga

@sixpackchica@xanga - oooo i love your site!!! my friend (dancer) and i(getting lean with PT) only do 'fit-spo', we love being healthy and strong. i agree with you- the pics here are to polar.

  • xkthily@xanga
  • nexthorizon@xanga

..Why isn't the choice "toned" here? I'd pick that, but since you only have two pictures, I'd rather look like Keira. The woman on the right is still a little too thick for my taste. Being 5'3", I think I'd look best at 110-115 lbs. If the "strong" woman in the picture was my height, I'd guess that she's about 130-135 lbs.

  • imyourstargirl@xanga

The 'skinny' picture is kind of an exaggeration in my opinion. Fit and Healthy FTW.

  • fried_ryce@xanga

    skinny. I'm already strong.

  • Audiofreak18@xanga
  • xWaltzAlyssax@xanga

definitely skinny, toned maybe. But skinny.

  • pinkkiex53@xanga

    skinny.

because... seeing hip bones is sexxyyy

    :)

    am i kidding.

    maybe.

  • asdfghkjlena@xanga
    skinny for sure.
    muscles are gross.
and you can be skinny and strong. i'm pretty strong but i don't look all bulky and gross like the girl lifting weights.
  • joycemiles@xanga

Apparently I'm skinny and strong. I don't know how that works, but I'm not the skinny SKINNY type of person. I'm right at the line, I guess. But I can play sports with the guys and kick their butts. So both :D But I'm saying being healthy is the way to go.
