  • LSD? No, I'm Addicted To MSG*

Monosodium Glutamate more commonly referred to as MSG has found its way into food EVERYWHERE! I know we have all seen the signs "NO MSG" or "NO ADDED MSG" and to our knowledge they mean just that.

Well unfortunately they have just been adding other products that contain just as much MSG than what they were previously adding. So by doing this they can claim no MSG as it was not added directly. This is called "Clean Labeling" where they take MSG off of their ingredient label and add other products that contain just as much of it. I'm sure when most of you hear MSG you automatically think of Americanized Chinese Food establishments (Panda Express and such).

What a lot of people do not know is that MSG or MSG products are in just about every fast food restaurant (McDonalds, Burger King, KFC ) and most regular "sit-down" restaurants (Applebee's, TGI Friday's), and worst of all it is in our own homes! Once you finish reading this post go to the kitchen and look at some of your labels, it is quite shocking how many products actually contain it. They (Food Industry) knowingly put these products into our food, and once people became familiar with MSG and looking out for it on labels, they(Still the Food Industry) basically made other products out of MSG and renamed it, hoping we would not catch on.

Why is the food industry so keen on adding this to the food we eat? It is addicting! Yes, they put it in there so that we will eat more.  Some scientists call it "Nicotine for food!" Only it does not cause cancer, no, it causes obesity. Have you ever wondered what they tested diet pills and supplements on? Just like everything else, rats and mice. Only there are no strain of mice or rats that are naturally obese, so what do they do? They inject them with MSG when they are very young which causes them to become obese. That way they can see if their diet products actually works. Now if MSG has that effect on rats what do you think it does to humans? Not only is it addicting but it also triples the amount of insulin the pancreas makes which is what cause the rats to become obese. Maybe it has the same effect for humans.

I, for one am trying to avoid MSG and products containing it and I thought that blogging about it would be a great way to share it everyone. I still find it hard to completely eliminate this from my diet due to how many products it is in and how wide spread it has become. I try to find ways such as, eliminate processed foods completely, eat mainly raw vegetables, try cooking more at home(well my girlfriend cooks for me ) using products that do not contain MSG.

There is so much more information out there for MSG if people would just do a little research, like the "low calorie" and "sugar free" drinks and a lot of supposedly healthy food/drinks we intake contain MSG or MSG type product. Some of the health risks involved with consuming this stuff is quite shocking. A lot of products that are targeted towards kids contains these things and affect kids way more severely than adults.

Do you look for restaurants that say no MSG on the window?  How many of your foods contain MSG or some form of it?
