Is Sweating in The Train Disgusting?
Today as I was heading home from the gym, I realized I looked like absolute shit. I was tired, my dry t-shirt I put on after changing was not wet with sweat. I never really cared before but for some reason, it bothered me a lot.
Most days I’ll wear what I’m going to work out with on the train but I realized lately that people tend to just stare at me when they see me sweating or look like I just came back from the gym.
I can’t figure out why people have such a thing against others that are sweating. If I see someone sweating with shorts on, I’m automatically assuming they’re coming from the gym and it’s no big deal.
I avoid people when I get in the train, I stand by the door or away from other people just because I know they’re going to react a certain way. Even after I change to dry clothes and my body is continuing to cool off, I get “ewww disgusting" look.
Why do you think people stare at those coming from the gym? Has this ever happened to you?

sweating isn't disgusting, it's a bodily function. but people have an aversion to the bodily fluids of others, and they probably just don't to smell/touch your sweat.
woah, WHAT??? if i saw some sweaty person who'd obviously came from the gym, i would stare at them with wonder and admiration (if i stared at all). seriously, how many other people on that train car have the motivation to go to the gym regularly?
when i see people running on the street while i'm driving or walking by, i want to cheer for them. but it'd be awkward and weird so i don't. :(
i would ride the bus/train home after working at the gym/working out at the gym...i got some stares but not that many. i think probably it was because it was 100+ outside so people mostly blamed it on waiting outside for the train in the hot hot weather :P.
Most people don't think that others would have the GALL to EXERCISE to LOSE WEIGHT and BUILD MUSCLES.
If it's accompanied by BO, yes.
Well I get icky when I see people in the train or the bus sweating and smelling a little (regardless of whether they came out of the gym or not), only because I don't really want to be touched by you accidentally or have to smell you. Once, there were some kids on the train that obviously just finished a game of rugby and they got onto the train and smelled so strongly that I literally had to hold my breath. I think it's just being considerate to clean up after you worked up quite a sweat/smell before you enter any public transportation.
Sweating on there isn't what bothers me, it's the ones that piss in the corners, ones that won't give up their seat for a pregnant woman or a disabled person, those kinds of jerks.
That is the beautiful thing about swimming - no sweat - really.
I hate sweating on the train! Its absolutely unavoidable. The best thing I do to beat it is I carry alcohol pads, the ones from the drs office, you can just buy them in the store. It wipes off the sweat and leaves your face dry. ITs bad if you have dry or sensitive skin, but since you're oily and greasy, it will get rid of that yucky layer.
I don't ride many trains or buses, but when I ride the PRT (our transit system) at univeristya lot of people get on from our student rec center at different times during the day. Generally, I don't mind people sweating as long as it doesn't reek or look as if they've been sprayed down with a hose.
I think people stare because humans like to stare at things. If something is out of the ordinary, we're staring at it. This situation has never happened to me. I basically only ride the PRT when it's raining out because I can't walk home, so I guess I avoid all this mess.
I think I'd be grossed out if someone on the train had clearly just come back from the gym and had the sweat to show for it. I CERTAINLY wouldn't want them sitting or standing anywhere near me! I definitely would take a shower at the gym before taking the train home...
invest in dry fit stay cool clothing; that might help... they are suppose to enhance performance (does it?) and they are suppose to keep your shirt looking dry and comfortable (well sort of, but at least your shirt isn't drenched in sweat; plus it doesn't stick on)... lol..
normally, i cool off first before i do anything; if there's a shower, i use it (of course, you'll have to bring shampoo, soap, etc... but hey, i prefer to look clean and look good...
Its unavoidable if you do but if the case was you been walking like that a few hours,
shame on you.
Freshen up is always a proper advise.
By the way I dislike it when sweat of others touch my skin its like a burning sensation on the skin the more the person sweats the nasty the oder get.
This is why you're supposed to shower after your work out at the gym. Going around all gross is no problem if its in your car... in a public transportation setting, well that's just rude. It's like putting on nice clothes after you have wrestled in manure for an hour... "but my clothes are dry!"
I don't like taking showers at my gym... its weird. The gym is fifteen minutes away from my house by walking, so I just walk there and walk back. If I saw someone on the train that had clearly just come from the gym, I wouldnt be grossed out. I agree with @PenaltyLife@xanga.
At least they're doing something to stay in shape.
i look like crap on the way home, but i drive myself. i might feel differently if i were a complete mess on the bus. I would just tidy myself up a bit, though.
