  • Artificial Sleep Through Prescription Meds

A couple of nights ago I've heard my fish talk to me. No shit. No, I do not have a wonder-fish and neither can I communicate with fauna habitat mysteriously. All the wonderful out-of-this-world experiences I've had (watering my lawn and not remembering it in the morning; taking all my shoes out of the boxes and arranging them neatly on the table; talking to my fish, etc.) I owe to my wonderful friend Ambien. See, I've been having troubles sleeping so I got this prescription. It's awesome and I can sleep.

Of course there is a big BUT. That tiny little pill knocks you out faster than you can sing "I Love You" with Barney (don't judge me on the whole Barney thing. I talk to my fish, remember?). So after taking the pill and washing it down with a nice little glass of Merlot (yes, I am smart like that) sit back and enjoy your conversations with dead people, animals, fish, and sometimes even the trees. Btw, trees can be very good listeners - they never interrupt and they always agree with your point of view.

Also if you ever try that white chemical wonder, go ahead and try talking to someone on the messenger. It's fun in a bucket. Typing becomes incredibly challenging. Seriously, the word "phone" will look something like "lbfge". Try to decipher that in the morning! And then you decide "Screw typing! It's way too hard! I'll just make a couple of phone calls instead!" So you call your friend and you have absolutely the best idea!! You are excited beyond belief and you can't believe you never thought of that before. What's the idea, you may ask? Why, my friends... Scrabble of course!! I mean, what could be more fun than inviting your friend with a couple of two year olds to stay at your house overnight just so you and the kiddies can play Scrabble?!

So yeah... I wonder if my dogs will have something meaningful to say anytime soon. I bet they will. And Immanuel Kant will weep with jealousy!!

Anyone else had some spiritual experience while on the prescription meds?

    A little too much.

My mom had to hide the NyQuil from me, even though my prescribed meds were a lot more powerful.

lol, ever had phenergan? Even if your dog did talk to you, you wouldn't know what he was saying!

Sleeping is a very interesting topic for me. I'm usually 100% awake when I dream and rarely fall ALL the way asleep if I don't take something before bed. I sleepwalk and sometimes wake up paralyzed and still dreaming. I've been trying things like valarian root which is definately very effective to fall asleep...the draw back is even though it is an herb I seriously feel over medicated and tripping balls when I wake up. It takes me forever to feel awake in morning and you seriously have out of body experiences. I don't know if that's solely because of the herb or because I'm a clusterf**k of sleeping disorders.

I woke up curled up on the sidewalk three blocks away from my dorm.  I sprained my ankle a week ago and I'm willing to bet I did it in my sleep.

I only take melatonin to sleep now...it works pretty well and I don't feel over medicated and don't shake when I wake up.

I need to try me some of this. I have insomnia and I need something that kicks my ass. Plus the hallucinations sound hilarious though. xD

I've been on Seroquel to help with both sleep and anxiety for years now. It's the only medicine that actually puts me to sleep. I can't really complain about any side effects. I've been on it for so long that I've gotten pretty well adjusted to the little drawbacks (e.g. lightheadedness when waking, increase in appetite). Ambien doesn't do anything for me. It's like taking a sugar pill. No effect.

@Murphy_Rants@xanga - Huh, weird. I take Valerian Root all the time and I have never had anything like you described. I used to perform on stage quite often so it helped a lot with the whole stage anxiety. The worst thing that ever happened to me after taking it, I became totally indifferent. "I don't give a shit" attitude is great sometimes but not when you have almost 2 hours of making music ahead of you... So after that I didn't take as many pills as that one time, and it worked great.

@TalithaKum88@xanga - I'm on seroquel as well. It really does work. Unfortunately it's hella expensive, as I'm sure you know :]

I'm also trying out Trazadone, which is a sleeping medication. It puts me to sleep, and keeps me there. I wake up somewhat groggy, however. Then again, I just started it. I don't know if it's just the Trazadone or the Trazadone/Seroquel combo.

@xclevermealsx@xanga - Yeah, luckily I don't have to pay a dime for it because I receive disability insurance or whatever they call it :)

@TalithaKum88@xanga - Lucky! LOL Well, i am not complaining. $10.00 for a month supply of Ambien is pretty nifty in my book ;)

  • NewAngel88@xanga

yeah i took ambian and started seeing people... it was wild. there are pictures of me laying in the floor talking to nothing.

  • just__one__me@xanga

@Murphy_Rants@xanga - Melatonin works pretty well for me too. I've been on Trazodone and Ambien before. The Ambien made me do some pretty hilarious things.

  • Peachass@xanga

you wash it down with merlot!?!?! that sounds dangerous
i take melatonin and a glass of red wine :) usually with popcorn, but thats just personal preference
no hallucinations but i get really sleepy and slow and confused

I've been taking ambien for 2 years now.  I have only had one "hallucination" episode, but that was my fault.  I only take half the prescribed dose, and one night I was too lazy to cut the pill in half so I took the whole thing.  That's the only time it ever happened.  Then again, I don't wash it down with some alcohol.  There is a reason the bottle says not to drink alcohol while you're taking it.

I obsess a lot and very easily. I am stubborn, short-tempered, and very open minded. Just because I won't do something, doesn't mean I won't accept it from someone else. Go ahead, try and shock me. Not gonna happen.
