  • I Have A Friend who Literally Misses Having Cramps...

I bet a lot of you who just read the title most likely had the same reaction —Whaaa?! Misses having menstrual cramps? Is she out of her mind? Yup, I know. Sounds crazy, right? All of you girls probably know what it’s like to have them. It’s literally like HELL. But there’s a good reason as to why she misses it.

My friend hasn’t had a period for about a little over three years now. I can hear you guys going –Whaaa?!—again. It’s not like she hasn’t had it completely for that period of time, but it has been extremely irregular for her—like once every 5 months or sometimes even 8 months. Even the times she has had them, they usually only last for two to three days at the most.

Initially, she didn’t make a fuss over it because she is SUCH a health nut. She exercises and eats healthy every day. So she thought how bad can it be with this “perfect” lifestyle? But after not having it for over 6 months, she finally realized that this could be a problem.

She went to see a doctor, and apparently she seems to have secondary amenorrhea. (Primary amenorrhea is when a woman hasn’t had her first period by age 16). Amenorrhea is when “a woman of childbearing age fails to menstruate”. So basically, if you haven’t had your period for three months, then you might be having secondary amenorrhea.

There are various causes for amenorrhea, which include emotional or physical stress, obesity, rapid weight loss, stoppage of birth control pills, intense exercise, and so on. But the weird thing is, none of these really applied to her, and her doctor did not find any obvious reasons. Well, maybe she is stressed, but come on, who isn’t ?

Have you girls ever had an irregular period? For how long? What were your own remedies?

Ive never had a missed period, its not that irregular either... always on time. I've had my period for about three years now.

  • Fluxuater@xanga

I used to have one every three months or or so when I was 14. Now it's normal, birth control helped!

  • StaceyMarie__x@xanga

I get between every 3 months and like 7 months.

But when I do get a period - holy hell, ITS BAD.

And I'm the same as this friend, i miss having them because i would rather get regular monthly ones.

I've NEVER had a period a month - no two consecutive months have I had periods and I've been having them for like 6 years.

this is what happens to everyone in my friends' family. one of them went on the pill to fix it and it worked.

last time i had my period was march.
    its july.
    its been over 3 months.
this was a wake up call.
guess i should go to my doctor

i started my period when i was 15 because i was so skinny.
so my doctor put me on BirthControl and it made everything on time. I gained weight, boobs, all that good stuff and now i look like a normal 18 year old...just a tad skinnier.
I just recently stopped taking the pill after being on it for a year, and i havent had my period for 3 months. Only a small amount of spotting. I feel like im PMSing 24/7 but, my doctor said that was normal when you come off the pill.

I want what your friend has, I don't like kids, I don't like cramps, so can I just have what she has? Anyways that happened to me once in the 8th grade I hadn't had it for 6 months and I told my friends and they were like "You're pregnant!?" so I answered "Yes, since I'm six months pregnant and still not showing." -_-' Funny thing is they actually beleived me and people kept asking if I was pregnant...good times...good times...then three months later people were asking if I had the baby. I was all wow. People are so easy to fool XD

My periods are often irregular. At the moment, I am on the the pill so they are like clockwork. They go with my stress without it though. The older I get, the more regular they become so who knows. My OB told me I might have trouble conceiving in the future, but we'll have to see how my cycles are in the future. When I came off of the pill a while back I was frantic because I went 2 months without one. I was extremely worried and it hurt. Irregular periods usually mean fertility issues. It's a tough thing to deal with.

    i've always been irregular.

but currently i am suffering from the worst cramps imaginable. where is your friend so i can strangler her? LOL! she can have my cramps any day of the week

  • bangbangtrashit@xanga

I had an eating disorder, and I'm still waiting for mine to come back. It's been seven months...

  • redmakesmeblue@xanga

For some reason it feels like it's always irregular for me.

  • devil_wings@xanga

I can be wildly irregular too (thank you, stress), but I find that drinking water-- excessive amounts of it-- helps. It's weird, but there you go.

Also. having no periods is a bitch. For me, at least. I wouldn't bleed or get cramps, but I still get all bloaty and emotional. PMS symptoms for me start at the end of the second week. And they keep on until I finally get my period. (So yeah, no fun at all.)

Depending on her BMI and fat percentage, her body could have simply said enough's enough, we can't support a baby right now. Some women, especially those with "overly healthy" lifestyles such as excessive calorie restriction or exercise, simply cease to have their periods, which can sometimes be an irreversible change because they have sunk too low below their fat requirement for their body to assume they can be a successful mother for too long.

Otherwise, has her doctor done pelvic ultrasounds or anything of that sort? Did they consider late onset polycystic ovary disorder? Or early menopause? Or endometriosis? All these could have an effect on menstruation and fertility, but sometimes they don't show up in clinical blood tests and symptom history.

I didn't have it for thirteen months. I missed it terribly. My friends made fun of me and didn't understand, but I wanted it back so badly. I felt like I was less of a woman because I couldn't have my period.

  • KatrinaReads@xanga

You mentioned she was a health nut... does that include being a vegetarian? Because often, vegetarians aren't eating a fully balanced diet and that can have severe impact on their cycles and the rest of their health. It's happened to more than a few friends of mine.

  • Tracy_tragedy@xanga

Whoa! I go sometimes a long time without my period and then I'll have it for 4 maybe 5 days. That kinda makes me worried now...

  • xoxo__MOOfin@xanga

I have a friend who hasn't gotten hers for a year or so, so I'd like to know what's going on too.

  • Delia712@xanga

this reminded me of when my best friend, who because of medical issues also had irrgular periods. she actually called me to come over one day and when i did, she thought she had to go a hospital. why? the unknown pain she was suffering through and she never had had cramps (even at the age of 19) and was getting them for the first time. and once i realized i chuckled, told her it was just cramps,  and was a lil envious too. i think she now misses NOT having cramps. lol.

  • veryfairy1@xanga

    2 months is the longest.

  • PoetMcChick@xanga

I was regular when I first got my period and as time went on they got irregular around the time I started frequently having sex. Apparently I have a mild allergy to latex and, later, I found out I had only one working ovary, which would make it almost impossible for me to get pregnant. Lo and behold, three months later I got pregnant...after having a baby I got mirena and now I don't get periods anymore. And I DON'T miss cramps...well, cuz I still get em sometimes, just less severe.
