  • Diet Coke and Coke Zero? Confused Anyone?

Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of soft drinks or haven't drunk enough to figure it out yet, but I've always wondered what the difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero is. I tried them both a couple times before, but still can't really tell. They both have zero calories, zero carbs, zero sugar, and taste the same, well, very similar (at least to me).

The difference I found so far (thanks to Google) was that while Diet Coke is sweetened with Aspartame (Nutrasweet), Coke Zero is sweetened with a mix of Aspartame and Acesulfame Potassium (a calorie-free artificial sweetener). I'm guessing they can't be all that good for you considering they both use artificial sweeteners. But, I've heard people saying Coke Zero tastes more similar to regular Coke..

Which do you prefer? Which do you think is worse in terms of taste and health?

I don't really like soda that much, but I feel like diet soft drinks have weird aftertastes. Coke Zero doesn't.

I thought that the only difference was the marketing; Diet Coke adverts are aimed at women, wheras Coke Zero adverts are aimed at men.  I guess men thought it was slightly iffeminate to drink Diet Coke

I have tried both and did not like the taste,  I dont drink much soda these days.

i prefer diet coke . it just tasts better .

  • bedheadbaby@xanga

I prefer diet. My sister normal. So we compromise with coke zero. To her it trastes like normal and to me diet.

  • itscatwithak@xanga

My favorite is actually the diet coke with splenda, to me it tastes the least weird, and doesn't make my teeth feel as icky afterwords.

If I had to drink one, it would be coke zero b/c the taste is at least tolerable.  There's a hint of a diet taste in it, but it's not as blatant as it is with regular diet coke, which I think is just plain nasty.  Then again, I rarely ever drink pop,and usually just stick with water.  It's cheaper, it's healthier, and I think it tastes a lot better than diet drinks.  Which is one reason why I never really understood diet drinks.  They taste worse, they're still unhealthy (although they do lack the calories), and you have to pay money for them.  I would imagine if somebody were really that health conscious, they would just go with water.  But I suppose there are people out there that just love the god-awful taste of diet pop.

Whenever I do drink pop, it's usually just regular.  Because, hey, if I'm going to pay money for it, I might as well enjoy drinking it, lol.

Uh, diet pop gives you cancer but Coke Zero gives you zero cancer?

I honestly don't know the difference because I don't drink either.  As far as health goes I think they're probably about the same because they have the same ingredients.  I agree with theneedtobedelicate that the real difference is just the way they're marketed, diet to women and zero to men.  The only soda I will drink is Sprite Zero.  I think it tastes way better than regular Sprite and it doesn't have all that damn sugar.

I also thought that Coke Zero was just a marketing strategy to get more men to drink their product. Because heaven forbid a man be caught drinking something that says "diet" on it.  I am admit to being a diet coke addict, and I can definitely taste the difference between the two products.

  • immissmassacre@xanga

coke zero is diet coke without the caffine.

  • scruffylizard@xanga

oh, it has caffeine. And for a while I was a huge proponent of coke zero. Because *I* don't like drinking something with diet on it, damnit. Yeah, and I'm a girl.

  • Passionflwr86@xanga

I love Diet Coke with a passion - but Coke Zero, to me, honestly tastes like... parsley. There's no other way to describe it, it's disgusting! Bah ... I'll stick to my Diet Coke (and yes, probably die of cancer, but that's another blog for another day.)

  • kieri126@xanga

I remember when I used to be repulsed by diet anything.....it was disgusting. I dont know if after i started to lose weight and forced myself that I finally prefer it or what...I have no idea. but now i love diet coke. I can only drink it ice cold though otherwise you can taste the artificial sugar in it.

I guess also cause I havent had reg coke in a while the contrast of sweetness isnt an issue anymore. Im just used to the less sugary fake taste.

coke zero was tolerable though when switching.

  • Punky13dq@xanga

Coke Zero uses an artificial sweetner that is healthier than that of Diet Coke. And Coke Zero does taste more like regular Coke, so that's that...there's really no big differences....

  • methodElevated@xanga
  • theBlueEyedG1rL@xanga

diet coke! coke zero has the more syrup-y taste to reg coke.

but now i stick to water, tea, and coffee.

  • Charity_the_So_Called_Artist@xanga

There actually is a difference, Diet Coke uses a different "Coke" formula versus Coca cola while Coke Zero is the original "Coke" formula with the artificial sweeteners. ;) Learn something new everyday huh? At least, that's what I remember it to be anyway.

  • pakichick48@xanga

the taste is really different. only diet soda junkies could tell the difference, I guess. Coke zero tastes exactly like regular coke. I like diet coke too but it tastes nothing like coke. it has it's own genuine flavor which tastes good. so they're both cool but coke zero tastes like coke. diet doesnt

  • Papilio_machaon@xanga

I always thought they just made coke zero for men, because ordering diet coke sounds so femail. Other than that it's a complete mystery to me. I don't like any of these cokes, when I drink coke, I drink regular coke, if I want to watch my diet, I'll drink water....

  • choosingausernameishard@xanga

i don't like either. i stick to water 99% of the time, and drink sprite once every 2 months or so.

  • Vwarriormodel25@xanga

They created Coke Zero because to some people, like myself, can tell that Diet Coke tastes significantly different from the normal Coca Cola. Coke Zero actually tastes like a normal Coca Cola (= I'll drink normal coke and I'll drink coke zero.... but I hate Diet Coke because it tastes so bad!
