Sticking to a nutritious diet while traveling can be one of the more difficult things to do. However, if you learn how to make smart choices, a healthy diet is really not that difficult. It’s probably not the best time in which to
start a healthy diet, but if you are currently making healthy choices in your foods already, modifying your diet slightly to accommodate travel, is not as difficult as it
first may seem.
If you are traveling by airplane, your diet may have to include airplane food, which can often be of poor nutritional value, depending on the selection. When you book your flight, ask about your food options, ask if a
vegetarian dish is available? Vegetarian dishes are sometimes more nutritional in this case, but it really depends on what they may be serving. If you can, eat a larger meal before your flight, so that you don’t have to eat the entire meal that is served, to feel full.
When driving or taking a bus, you may be tempted to stop at fast food restaurants and eat the meals found there. Avoid this whenever possible! If you’re on vacation, you may wish to splurge a tiny bit, but having fast food more than once during a week can really be bad for your
health. If you must, choose the healthiest options available, like chicken breasts and diet soda.
Also, remember that you can take your own meals when traveling. Carrying a loaf of whole-wheat bread or pita wraps, some lean lunch meat, and
low-fat cheese in a cooler is a great way to avoid high-fat and high-cholesterol
junk food meals. These are much better choices and you’ll save a lot of money as well. Call ahead to ask if there will be a refrigerator in your hotel room.
Lastly, make smart choices when you eat out. If you choose salads or pasta get the dressing on the side and ask about
low-carb options. In fact, many places
print these
dieting options directly in the menu for the health-conscious people. Control your portions by
ordering lunch menu
sizes or splitting the meal in halve and getting a doggie bag, and you’ll be well on your way to
healthy eating, even away from home.
Yes, eating healthy foods when you travel can be a challenge. However, your health is worth it. Eating meals high in
nutrition will also assist in fighting illnesses that you are likely to encounter when traveling and you will find yourself more alert so that you can enjoy your trip.
What do you normally eat when traveling? Are you a fan of airplane food or do you bring your own?

Apples and Cliffbars, boys and girls. That's all you need.
Im horrible when it comes to eating at work.
To give en example: I just started a new job about three weeks ago. I work as a casheir in the front where we also have a soda machine.
I have gotten a soda out of there every single day I've worked.
And the days I've gotten lunch I've either walked down the opposite end of the plaza and picked up pizza or gone next door to the market and gotten sliced salami. (Dont judge me!)
I really need to learn how to control myself. But Im just no good at packing lunches! The only time that works is when I bring leftovers from the night before.
Wow, wikipedia links everywhere! That's really distracting.
Anyway, diet soda is not really a healthy alternative to soda. If you're really going to eat healthy why not drink water? It's much healthier than any drink at a fast food establishment, and on top of that, it is usually free.
Why is the title "How to eat better at work" when this is more about eating better while traveling?
diet soda is healthy??
I tried to eat healthy but I failed. I ran to Burger King when I was in England!
Who travels regularly, should take good care of health. One should eat bananas, apricots, nuts, fruit juices, green tea and most importantly water. Avoid unhealthy fat related foods. Do some exercise early in the morning or can even do power yoga. It would be benefited if the hotel in which you stay, has gym. Always choose the stuff like salad and fruit dishes and stuff like that. You can not blame a road trip for eating unhealthy!

When I travel, which is usually always to Florida lol, all it is, is SALADSALADSALAD !
So I really don't have to worry too much. Sure, I'll get some dessert once in a blue moon, but usually I'm full by then and it'll be split between my family. And I always get diet sodas or water. I'm sorry to say that I need soda, unless I have tea in the house.
As airline food is concerned, I just have a muffin or something with me that I never eat. We leave REALLY early in the morning, so I'm never hungry anyway. I just buy something to nibble on, which I never even do lol
@black_lie@xanga - and no, it does say How To Eat Better When Traveling :]
@SamiiSaysHaii@xanga - Well obviously, they edited it after I posted my comment. Why would two of the first three people read the title completely and utterly wrong?
@black_lie@xanga - oh well.. true, sorry ^_^;; my bad.
