Ants on a Log: A Great Snack for Kids
It looks and sounds a little disgusting. At least to me anyhow, but really this is one of the world's greatest snacks! It's simple to make. Take a few sticks of celery and/or carrots spread a little peanut butter or cream cheese on them and throw on a few raisins or dried cranberries. My personal fave is celery with peanut butter and raisins.
This snack is not only healthful but fun to make as well. Kids can help make the logs or place the ants on them once an adult has spread the toppings. Ants on a Log is a great any time snack and can be made on the spree.
Do you have any fun snack ideas?

I remember making these when I was in preschool. It's the only way I can eat celery!
Love these. Haven't thought about it in years!
We made the celery/peanut butter/raisin kind [I though that was the only kind...?] in preschool as well, and I've loved it ever since. As a kid I also used to make them with apples, but the celery type is much more delectable.
If you've never tried the aforementioned variety, you must. Sounds unappetizing, but truly delicious. And it's got protein, vegetables, and fruit all in one go.
What's not to love?
i used to LOVE the peanut butter/raisin ones as a kid!!! i covered it with so many raisins LOL
they're only healthy if you don't let your kid slather on the peanut butter/cream cheez, considering how high in fat both are...and if you're using real peanut butter, not jiffy
Too bad I'm allergic to peanuts :( I love celery though :)
Hmmm... I don't really have any fun snacks. I just eat it, even if it looks/tastes bad.
@taaru@xanga - Are you allergic to all nuts? Because almond butter works just as well.
I. Love. CELERY <3
And peanut butter. and rasins :) A great snack for me
Yum... now that's a good snack! Maybe I'll try it later!
@randompearls@xanga - Nope. Just walnuts and peanuts. Thank you, I'll try that for sure :)
Ive never heard of this, but I'm trying it for now on! I love cream cheese.
Looks fun and delicious :)
I love ants on a log....one of my favorite snacks are Ritz crackers with light cream cheese or apple and cheese slices.....they may not be as fun or creative as ants on a log, but they are so good!
@taaru@xanga - It's great with cream cheese too!
haha. i was misled by the title *sneaky sneaky* but yeah those celery look pretty good and its healthy too.
I remember when I was a kid I tried to eat real ants on a log..
looks good :] i have yet to try this.
i remember it being on the old tv show Zoom.
Is there an alternative for people who DON'T like raisins? I'm considering make this one of my snack options, but guh..raisins and anything dried is just.. *shudder*
@OpiumxRainbows@xanga - Wow..story-topper. LOL Nice.

yuck, yuck, yuck. i HATE celery, but i'm glad u mentioned that u can try it with carrots too.
Man I remember doing those in Kindergarden.. but not with cream cheese. YumMmMmMmM!
i like it :)
@taaru@xanga - Mmm yeah almond butter is amazing. :]
Mmm at first I thought that was caramel instead of peanut butter.
I've never heard of this before, but I like peanut butter, so I'll definitely try it!
I've never had this as a kid, but it looks delicious. I gotta try those someday.
My mom used to make me bunny rabbits. Circles or balls of soft cheese, and carrots for ears with raisins for faces. Normally she would slice some of that cheese that comes in a long cylinder and cut all of the ingredients into slivers and make me a whole family. Haha.
@KrazeeKunoichi009@xanga - You could deffinatly try peanuts or for a less healthful option maybe chocolate chips. Hmm ... it might even taste good with cheeros or some other type of cereal.
