If you don't know what I'm talking about, feast your eyes.
It's basically a ton of red bumps that scab and bleed and basically just look ugly all the time. It is handed down through the genes to 50% of people, and it's unattractive, embarrassing, and annoying.
KP gets on my upper arms and lower thighs. I've had it forever.
Lately, I did some homeopathic research, and Nizoral (http://www.nizoral.com/) can go on most areas of your body (obviously, you should let the mouth, eyeballs, and privates sit out on this one...). It's an anti-dandruff shampoo, and it kills excess fungi on your skin.
By the way, you have fungus on your skin too.
Before you freak out...
It's healthy. KP is formed by an excess of fungi.
Fun fact: cracks at the corners of your mouth and yeast infections are also caused by fungi!
That makes sense why I have it genetically: My dad has Athlete's Foot.
So, to get rid of this gross fungi on your body, use some good ol' anti-dandruff shampoo. Put it on the afflicted area after a shower and leave it on for 20 minutes. (as I said, leave the mouth-corner-cracks out of this).
I've been following this routine fairly often, and I can already see progress!
I know you're out there, fellow KP's! have faith...
Do you or anyone suffer from Keratosis Pilaris? How long were you suffering for?

i have it and always have. i find swimming in the ocean helps lessen it but I'm happy to know the dandruff shampoo helps! I'll need to try this!!
i think i have it :|
I have a form of it but it's not red & scabby. It just feels like chicken skin. You dont really notice it unless you're close to my legs or feel them. They dont bother me but I use gentle exfoliation in the shower & a good lotion to soften the appearance of it. It makes a huge difference.
Do you think the shampoo will work for me too?
I'm pretty sure I have it on the back of my arms, I'm gonna try that shampoo thing though, thats awesome! thanks
i have had this all over my arms and legs since age ten, and i'll try anything! i'm totally going out to buy some anti dandruff shampoo. right. now.
I have recently noticed it on my upper arms-- I figured it was because of dry skin
thanks for the tip-- I'll have to try this!
just be carefull that the anti dandruff shampoo isnt too harsh for the skin it may dry your skin and could possibly make it more irritated.... its something i wouldnt recommend.. see a beauty therapist or dermatologist and get onto a good body exfoliant maybe something with active ingredients... a few girls from my college suffer from keratosis palaris and with the body treatments we use there as been a nice improvement
thanks for the article. i've had KP since i was about seven or eight.
Unfortunately, I have it. The backs of my arms, my legs, etc. It's crappy, maybe I'll give this a try.
that looks like my boyfriends back and chest. he told me it's "severe acne" but it looks a lot like that...
can someone please explain if it's the same thing? maybe i could suggest that to him.. but i don't want to be rude.
I have something that looks like that... except for they dont bleed. I think I'll try this anyways though to see if it works. Thanks!
Looks like what I have, which I think is terribly disgusting on me and makes my skin on my arms and back horrible. I'll defiantly try it out. Thanks.
wow thats really interesting to know; i had KP but it seems to have died down a lot after i've lost some weight funnily enough? My skin is still a little odd though. So I'll try that out =] Thanks a bunch!
I've had this...although I don't think it's too bad. They're small and they don't bleed.
I've had it since middle school. It hasn't been that bad within the past 2 years and it doesn't seem to disgust my girlfriend out, so I think I'm good. It seems that my arms don't have bumps anymore and they're just scars now. I've been getting lots of ingrown hairs on my scalp though...
I see....
I used to have eczema when I was younger... but not anymore. It went away.
I think I might have a very mild form of this. I usually get it a day after I shave my legs. Its a pain in the ass.
I have keratosis pilaris too, and I also get a fungus on my face in the summertime, these "white patches" that refuse to tan. Dandruff shampoo works equally well on them.
hmm, my bf's skin looks like that when it gets too humid. He has some topical cream for it. I suggested he use baby powder on the patches but he isn't very eager... maybe baby powder isn't manly enough to be associated with him =P
My sister and I have both had it since we can remember.
Mine doesn't bleed or scab or bother me at all, its just there all the time. which gets annoying. I heard it was just pores that have a hearder time getting rid of dead, dry skin, so it gets clogged with it. I also learned that 1 out of every 2 people have it. Some doctor said she had came up with a lotion that helped it clear up, but its super expensive for a little tube. Its rediculous. So I'm am most definitely going to try the dandruff idea.
I have it and I always have, as long as I can remember. It's not too bad, but I do get comments like "Oh my gosh, what's wrong with your arms?" from people who haven't noticed it being there on a daily basis. It's quite annoying, actually. I've never heard the dandruff shampoo idea though, that's worth a try.
Bless you! i have it and when i was younger and didn't know better i picked at it and my arms are scarred! i've been looking for various ways to make the KP go away ... or at least look a pit more presentable.
I shall try!
Eucerin lotion helps a ittle bit because it has Alpha Hydroxy Acid in it... but it is very sticky and makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
Most people just have KP through puberty but it can be more long term than others.
my brother and I have it, his is way worst than mine, mine the only person who noticed it was my dermatologist, not even I had noticed it, there is a thing called akerat, idk if you need prescription to get ti though, it worked really well on my brother and mine bacame even less noticeable.
I have it every since I hit puberty and it got worse as I grow older (I'm 25). My mom had it when she was younger and it slowly disappeared after puberty. It didn't for me, which is sad.
Definitely giving this a try. Thanks! =)
