After only four days of eating fatty foods, rats had problems remembering how to solve a maze. FOUR DAYS!
Fatt foods also made the rats much worse at running:
Half of the rats had also been trained to run on a treadmill. After only a few days on the high-fat diet, the rats performed 30 percent worse on the treadmill. After five days of testing, the treadmill performance of the rats eating fatty foods had declined by half.
So fatty foods even impair your ability to exercise. Indulging in fatty foods and then burning it off at the gym may not be a healthy option.
How about you: do you eat a lot of fatty foods? Have you noticed any impact on your memory, or your ability to exercise?

I don't eat a lot of it, and I'm one of the best readers in my grade. :)
hmmm this is interesting. thanks for sharing (=
i hope this is a joke.owh no.
This is interesting. Come to think of it, some of my friends and I eat healthy, and we've got very good grades.
I'm SO glad I got this info
I just moved into my dorm three days ago, and all I've eaten at the cafeteria is pizzas and burgers - and a couple plums
.
Interesting. It's probably at least partially true.
Hahaha. Great, now I have one more thing to worry about. No wonder I can hardly remember anything after a weekend of pizzas and icecream.Â
I'm not surprised.
I guess it depends on the individual? I don't eat fatty foods but I'm not smart either. And my friend is the total opposite, he eats a lot of Macdonald's and yet he has good grades.
good info. there's a saying that it's important to eat healthy food before you do anything important such as testings.
Omega 3s!
I have an article on fishoil pills. It's all fat... but the good kind! It has this thing in it called DHA. DHA is in your brain. The more you have, the better your brain functions. But of course, in moderation :P but we definitely do not get enough from daily foods unless you eat fish about 2-3 times a week.
I think a lot of people are confusing good grades with good memory. Just because someone has a good memory doesn't mean they will get good grades--grades are also about hard work and pushing yourself. But anyway, I feel like I am able to focus better when I am eating healthier foods rather than fatty, junk food. It makes me feel good about myself and therefore would probably help me to exercise better and remember things better.
now i know, fatty foods must be one of the cause for my bad memory.
nuu! not my memory :(
Well I never noticed a mental difference. I did notice the physical difference when I switched from fast food almost daily to vegetarian with fresh fruits and veggies daily. I'm skeptic there is a link between fat and stupid.
Yes, I eat fatty foods all the time and I love it. I still skinney and walk and exercise. So It doesn't make any sense that what affects rats would do the exact same thing to us.
this is true, i would walk everyday at 7:30 lately i've stopped eating right and i can't even wake up!
that could explain a lot about what's been going on with my memory.
I 100% concur with this study. I notice when I have my "cheat" day...the next morning during my workout. I feel weaker, more lethargic, listless and stupid. Even though the calorie count is only slightly higher (by about 300cals on a cheat day)...I do recognize the immediate effect.
I thought "Supersize Me" already covered these points? Or was I mistaken?
Nope.
i eat fatty food
it doesnt affect my memory at all
im dux of the grade :)
x
I eat fatty foods maybe abotu twice a month, I try to stay pretty healthy in my eating habits. I've worked too hard to throw it all away haha
I would say I agree with this...except the only time I eat fatty foods is when I'm high, and so I can't really blame the whole memory thing on the food, now can I.
