Good News For Beer Lovers Out There!
Are you a beer lover? Can you tell the subtle distinction between different kinds of beer? Do you own a T-shirt from your favorite brewery? Well, even if you don't consider yourself necessarily a “lover” of beer, I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who enjoy drinking it (with an exception of me, who still think beer equals bitter!) Regardless of how much of a beer lover you are, I bet there are those “health nuts” who despite knowing how unhealthy it can be, they simply cannot resist its taste.
Don't worry because I've got good news for you. As I was flipping through last week's Metro NY, I found an interesting article. According to research, beer drinkers who drink it regularly (about a pint of beer) tend to have stronger bones and were less likely to suffer from osteoporosis. Researchers believe that “heavy silicon levels in beer may bolster new bone formation;” silicon is crucial in bone formation. They also said “beer has been claimed to be one of the most important sources of silicon in the Western diet.”
Sounds too good to be true? But make sure you drink in moderation and never go overboard. You know you don't want that beer belly.
Do you enjoy drinking beer? How much/often do you drink? If you're not into beer, would you be willing to start drinking for your health?

I like certain beers and I did hear before that one glass (or pint) a day is healthy for you.
Wow, that's pretty interesting. I'm too young to drink, but I don't think I'd drink it to benefit my health. I can't stand the smell of it.
i never liked beer, thought it had a foul taste. but hurray for the beer drinker.
I hate beer.
Haha really? That's pretty cool. But we should only drink like one glass right? (It only takes me one bottle to get me drunk in the first place -_____-;; unlike my boyfriend, takes like at least 4 to get him to start feeling the effects).
According to this "beer drinkers who drink it regularly tend to
have stronger bones and were less likely to suffer from osteoporosis" and my daily intake of milk I'm sure that my bones are really strong. Definitely, I love milk and beer :)
Why is it so obsurd that beer would be good for you. Drinking a glass of wine a day is beneficial to your health. Why not beer.
I have on average 3 glasses of beer a week. Some crazy mom told me that beer is good for breast milk so I started drinking 1 beer a day after I gave birth. Didn't know if it was beneficial for the breast milk but my baby turned out perfectly fine and I felt goooood!
I love beer. Mmmm...beer.
Wow, really?? I didn't know beer is good for breast milk. Very interesting!
this upside doesn't outweigh the downsides associated with alcohol consumption, so i'm not convinced
I love beer. Now when my mom tells me to drink my milk I'll be like no I'll go drink a beer thank you very much. :] ha
I don't drink.
Sweet! Strong bones for meeee! If this is true, I'm gonna start stocking up.
=)
I prefer stouts and brown ales. Word. Drink in moderation, people.
Great! I drink less since they started that deposit business on cans and glas bottles and selling beer in plastic bottles ... disgusting. Now it's whenever people remember bringing me a present when coming for a visit.
beer's wonderful, i drink it anywhere between 1-5 days a week
It's better to keep an open mind when you read about reported research like that. You don't know the sources or the limitations of the research.
Something to think about:
Men drink more beer than woman do.
Women are more prone to osteoporosis than men are.
So there may be a spurious correlation, where it's not the beer that is making the bones stronger of these people, it's their gender and body composition.
