What about Healthy Pizza?
After scanning the weekly coupons, one could find in some of their local junkmail a flier with a coupon for Papa Johns Pizza having a deal where you buy a cheese pizza and get free toppings for a limited time.
Great! So now you have a choice. Now I'll be honest, the only thing I like on pizza is veggies. I have always hated pepperoni but my husband loves it. We try to negotiate but it seems like we always just end up doing half and half. Thinking it is healthier really isn't why I order the veggie pizza, but it has always seemed healthier. No one has really said much about it though. SO I am left with the assumption that if I'm going to have pizza the best is to just order veggie.
I recall seeing an ad on tv at one point for "health" pizza that was whole wheat and crispy crust at Pizza Hut, but I've heard from friends they were gross and tasted like freezer pizza. Because cardboard isn't really what I am going for when I order out, I decided not to try it. Still, there doesn't seem to be anything to replace that yummy combination of dough, tomato sauce, and shredded cheese. I tried making my own version at home. I use asiago, shredded parm, and motz cheese as well as a little sauce, minced garlic, (sometimes green pepper and mushroom) store bought spaghetti sauce, and spinach. I LOVE IT! My husband does too, and he hates veggies on anything.
South Beach Diet, NutraSystem, Jenny Craig and other major diet companies have featured a small personal pan pizza marketed as healthy, but is it really a scam to sell more food?Do you really think there is such a thing as "healthy" pizza or is it just a comfort food? Do you eat veggies on your pizza or is pizza a splurge for you that going "healthy" would ruin?

i think there can be such thing as a "healthy" pizza but you'd probably have to make it yourself, so you know exactly what goes into/on it. my dad and i made a couple healthy pizzas once :)
The only thing besides cheese I like on my pizza is spinach, tomato or eggplant. While I probably wouldn't consider a ordered pizza as "healthy" one with veggies is definitely "healthier" than your hubby's choice. I feel your pain though, we always have to order half w/e he wants and half cheese for me.
What I could NEVER understand is why the other half doesn't get extra meat if you are only covering half of it?
I worked at Pizza Hut for a year. There is absolutely NOTHING healthy about any of it.
I also worked at Papa John's for a year, and it's always made fresh, with fresh dough and fresh veggies, and nothing is kept longer than three days.
Um it's called making your own pizza. Go to the store, buy pizza crust, buy the toppings the healthy ones to your liking, and bake. If u want to go healthy, i suggest skip the cheese.
All I have to say is the healthiest pizza comes from home...i.e. one that you make. Pizza places you eat out at use a lot of processed "real versions" of things (ex. full fat cheese, meats, etc.)
I love pizza. It is and probably will always be my favorite food. Recently I've been trying to eat healthier and save money (i'm a poor college student btw), so I've been making my own. I made this one pizza the other night for a friend and we both loved it. It was Tomato (cut fresh), Pesto (made fresh or can be bought out of a jar) and Chicken (grilled) Pizza (with fat free shredded cheese) on top of a thin crust (I think I also put mushrooms on it--I love my veggies!). I usually eat whole wheat over white bread, but for some reason I have yet to find a whole wheat pizza crust that I actually like...I find them kind of gross actually. Anyway, The pizza was tasty and didn't have a lot of calories. Google it, many people have made their own and it doesn't take many ingredients. :)

to me, pizza is considered healthy. i usually get thin crusted pizza with meat and vegetable toppings. it's also fun to make your own pizzas so you can control the ingredients. yum....
i like making my own pizzas, i buy whole-wheat dough & use fresh mozzarella(idk if that's how you spell it), & then i'll either make my own pizza sauce or buy a jar, then top it with either spinach or mushrooms & onions. booyah.
I don't eat pizza that often so when I do I don't care if it's healthy or not. The best way to get a healthy pizza is to probably make it yourself.
I think pizza is relatively good for you. Whole wheat dough, minimal to no cheese at all, veggies, and veggie/fruit packed sauces. that's the way to go!
When you compare a vegetarian pizza to something like sauteed vegetable in white sauce on whole wheat pasta -- there isn't much of a difference, apart from a little more grease on the pizza. No, a slice of pizza isn't as healthy as a bowl of salad or an apple, but it sure beat the heart-attack in a box known as the works, or worse, meat lovers' pizza.
I wouldn't sweat it. Veggies are veggies, cheese or not!
i totally think it is! pizza from woodstocks can be made with whole wheat and healthy veggies...and it is suuuper bomb! i feel way better after eating that than a greasy meated out pizza from domino's
If you go with a thin crust pizza you are getting a lot less calories than if you go for a deep dish or hand tossed pizza. Veggie pizza is always the best choice when you eat pizza. I'm not saying its healthy for you, but if you love pizza as much as I do there are ways you can eat it without scarfing down a million calories. If you look at the nutritional information on a place like PizzaHut.com you will see what I'm talking about. (One slice of from a large Veggie Lovers thin crust pizza is only 180 calories - Not Bad).
Lately we've been making our own here. We put tomato, peppers and onions on it. It's healthy and it tastes great.
I absolutely love pizza. It is definitely my favorite food. I'm starting to think it's not just junk food...as long as you make it yourself. If you think about it, pizza actually has a good combination of the kinda of foods you need. It's got grains and dairy, perhaps meat sauce, and veggies, fruits or meat that you put on top. I feel like the only unhealthy thing about pizza would be grease from the cheese. If you get whole grain crust, low fat cheese, and a less fatty pizza sauce, you should be set. Add veggies, and it's even better.
My pizzas usually have onions and bell peppers on them. I'd rather eat vegetables separately than on my pizza >.<
