  • What about Healthy Pizza?

After scanning the weekly coupons, one could find in some of their local junkmail a flier with a coupon for Papa Johns Pizza having a deal where you buy a cheese pizza and get free toppings for a limited time.

Great! So now you have a choice. Now I'll be honest, the only thing I like on pizza is veggies. I have always hated pepperoni but my husband loves it. We try to negotiate but it seems like we always just end up doing half and half. Thinking it is healthier really isn't why I order the veggie pizza, but it has always seemed healthier. No one has really said much about it though. SO I am left with the assumption that if I'm going to have pizza the best is to just order veggie.

I recall seeing an ad on tv at one point for "health" pizza that was whole wheat and crispy crust at Pizza Hut, but I've heard from friends they were gross and tasted like freezer pizza. Because cardboard isn't really what I am going for when I order out, I decided not to try it. Still, there doesn't seem to be anything to replace that yummy combination of dough, tomato sauce, and shredded cheese. I tried making my own version at home. I use asiago, shredded parm, and motz cheese as well as a little sauce, minced garlic, (sometimes green pepper and mushroom) store bought spaghetti sauce, and spinach. I LOVE IT! My husband does too, and he hates veggies on anything.

South Beach Diet, NutraSystem, Jenny Craig and other major diet companies have featured a small personal pan pizza marketed as healthy, but is it really a scam to sell more food?

Do you really think there is such a thing as "healthy" pizza or is it just a comfort food? Do you eat veggies on your pizza or is pizza a splurge for you that going "healthy" would ruin?
