Which is better: smoking or being fat?
I know it would be best to be at a healthy weight and not smoke. But I seem to be faced with the choice of one or the other.
If I want to lose weight, I have to not worry about smoking. I lost 120 pounds in about a year by smoking instead of eating.
If I want to quit smoking, I get hungry. Really, really hungry. All the time. I got help from my doctor and a prescription, I've quit smoking. But, I gained back 55 pounds in 4 months!
If you had to choose, would you rather smoke or be fat?

That's really hard to choose, hating both of choices.
But, I'd probably smoke. Being all vain, and all.
i don't know if you've ever watched intervention. but at the end, they used to do a short segment on the former addict's current status. a lot of the time, they gain a lot of weight, and look much healthier. i'm sure that's the case with you too.
however, if you're that uncomfortable about gaining back the 55 pounds, just diet and exercise. it'll be slower than smoking, but it'll be healthy. there is no point in weight loss unless it is healthy weight loss.
and to answer your question, honestly, i'd rather be fat. smoking is repulsive.
maybe try occupying your mind with something OTHER then eating or smoking?
This reminds me of a video I saw by Dr. Mercola (you can find it on youtube)- he says don't quit smoking if it'll make you gain weight and become obese, get the weight under control then quit... he suggests.. but I'm not a fan of Dr. Mercola. lol
I suggest picking up a new habit, like yoga.
i would honestly rather be fat then smoke . smoking is repulsive.
If I absolutely had to choose I would choose smoking. Thankfully I have alot of willpower and can say no to myself when it comes to food (I eat when bored if I dont say no to myself)
@ahsolovley@xanga - same here.
If smoking is keeping you thin and you want to be thin and you like smoking, then SMOKE. If I had to choose i'd definitively smoke.
smoke
i'd smoke. i know it's awful.
I'd rather be fat. You can always lose the weight. There's not much you can do to reverse lung cancer.
smoke. i can't imagine dying a fat-ass.
I'd rather be fat. Maybe you should eat healthy foods like fruits and veggies when you're hungry all the time.
Smoking is statistically MUCH worse for you - the biggest preventable cause of poor health and death. Another thing I've known people to try is carrying around those little coffee stir straws to chew on when they get cravings.
try the pill they have, my mom and i both took it and quit smoking befor we even finished the pills. anddd NOOO weight gain!!
@la_dramatique@xanga - if your going to get cancer your going to get it, my grandmother never smoked once and died from lung cancer.
I would keep smoking. I lost over 100 pounds that way, and I've kept it all off. Also, from what I've seen in the military, smokers actually do BETTER on fitness tests, especially the run. No bullshit. Mostly because the non-smokers get fat and slow, but smokers tend to work out more to compensate for any disadvantage they may give themselves. It's not true in every case, but it's a general theme I've noticed.
Lung cancer or heart disease? Wrinkles or c-ankles? I'd honestly rather smoke. That's pretty obvious given my current weight issues but still...I've been raised to believe that gluttony is wasteful and disgusting...and I agree with that.
@GodsGirl62@xanga - By the way, obesity has already passed smoking as the biggest preventible cause of death in the United States.
Of course , I would rather to be fat . As we all know , smoking is a addictive stuff . Once you take it , it's difficult to quit . And it ruins your health , lots of diseases will appear .........horrible !
You know , the weights can be controlled by regular exercise or diet but smoking can't . I suppose gaining weights is process of quiting smoking . Come on , don't worry about it .
I have asthma. I hate smoking. I'd rather be fat.
I can't imagine myself with this problem and am so sorry that you experience it. :(
I don't want to seem like I am supporting negative actions like smoking and over-eating, but I'd chose smoking if in your shoes. A few years back I did a project on Obesity in America -- it was a project where the class competed for donations of their assigned charity. One argument was that of all unhealthy behaviours, obesity causes the most health problems, in almost every health area.
I hope that you can deal with this in another way, maybe therapy?
Try chewing gum! :D
good luck!
@Mr_Couch@xanga - that is similar to guys who do cross country at my highschool (York, in Elmhurst Illinois, they are famous across the country for running) I don't support smoking (or being fat), but it's a good point!
@amy_cyc@xanga - eating can be addictive, too. Over-eating can be a stressful disorder and not something replied to with 'don't worry about it'.
i'd rather be fat. why would i want to harm my body by smoking when i can lose weight by exercising?
