Ok this may be TMI... in which case, just click past this post.
I started working out recently with a trainer... and since then, I have been going to the bathroom 4-5x a day. It is the weirdest thing.
I've evaluated all the leading candidates:
- I don't think I'm eating a lot more than usual... maybe a little bit. But not 4-5x more than usual.
- I haven't changed my diet dramatically.
- I have suddenly come down with some sort of cancer of the intestines in the past week.
But it occurs to me that there might be one more possible explanation.
When you start working out hard after a long hiatus, does that somehow stimulate your bowels?

not for me...
I've found that a lot of working out (especially some yoga moves) defiantly helps your digestive track. If you've started up after a hiatus, you will probably go er...number 2 a bit for a few days (from my experience)
Also if you're eating more fiber that could be the case
Your intestines could have caught the exercise bug, and decided to be as active as the rest of you.
jesus christ i go like once a week. you're eating too much
@NikBv@xanga - Just thought I'd let you know that I literally laughed out loud just now. Thanks for that :)
Umm. Well I have problems going number 2. The dr's suggestions are always loads of water, fiber!, fruits and veggies, opting for whole grain, and regular exercise. So if you're doing all those and added exercise again maybe they're just more stimulated. idk. I'd jump for joy if I went that often, lol, i have loads of problems in that department.
I usually go twice a day if I am working out everyday, other then that I only go once a day. But, as someone above said they only go once a week, that is very unhealthy.
did you start drinking protein shakes? they usually make me (and my bf too) go to the bathroom a lot for the first week or 2
I usually go 2 times a day. It could be related to the increase in exercise. Also have you been eating more fiber? I think that could cause an increase...I think lol
@deprivation_now@xanga - Actually, she is probably healthier than you on this. We are supposed to have a healthy bowel movement at least every 2-3 days. Anything less than this is considered a medical issue with constipation. The problem with "holding it in" is that the digested matter builds up and ferments inside your bowels, making digestion more difficult, wihile releasing fermentation byproducts in to your bowel and body.
In regards to the OP, hard work outs or any type of exercise that stimulates those "feel good" hormones that we're all used to, also stimulate your bowels. While it's been awhile since I've researched the topic, I know several hormones/neurotransmitters come in to play when you work out, and several are also a part of bowel stimulation. While 4-5x a day is a little much, it should subside in accordance with workout tolerance being built up. If it doesn't change (reduce in frequency) in the course of a week and it's bothering you, seeing a physician may be your best bet. If you're going that often, you should notice a decrease in size of event each time. If not, you may simply have been "backed up".
Hehehe!! Maybe your trainer causes you to poop! XD!!!
Ah well, Im not a doctor, go have a check-up. 4-5x is... kind of.. a torture =s
you should really get a check up. just make sure you are drinking enough water and eating healthy!
as long as it's not, er, loose, you're probably fine - working out in the morning almost always makes me have to go right after. keep up your new routine and your body should sort itself out. if not, see a doctor!
It does for me! I stopped working our for 3 weeks and I was constipated for a while, now that I am back to working out, no more constipation! -lol-
I go once every 1-2 days normally. But if I do high-impact exercises, I usually have to go right after it. It just seems to stimulate my system so I try to go before those activities and I'm fine.
YEs exercise helps you have more regular bowel movement.
that happened to me too recently... I thought maybe it also had to do with the fact that I started drinking more water, but again it wasn't THAT much mroe water. But I'm glad there do seem to be agreed upon conclusions that this can happen and it's not that strange...
Exercising is probably just "emptying" you out. If it keeps up for a long time then I'd see a doctor.
Yes, running is notorious for making you "go" and all exercise is helpful for keeping you regular.
heck i have to take a poop just thinking about working out! haha seriously! i take a poop after taking my vitamins, too. i think it's definitely normal to go more, but if it is not normal looking poop, then you should see a doctor. otherwise i think you're fine.
@enterthelabyrinth@xanga - Yes! This is exactly what I was going to say! :)
yeah when i work out i go more often. i have no idea why. my only guess is that i am eating better and my body is functioning better. i also drink more water when i exercise. my mom would say that movement just gets everything flowing. that grosses me out and makes me ask where she got her medical degree
I wish this happened to me! I have extreme digestive problems but work out every single day for almost 2 hours... I would love for it to stimulate my bowels (or lack there off - I had most removed)... but nope: I am completely EFFED up compared to everyone else - ugh, stupid intestines!
this happens to me all the time! I used to be a cross country runner, and it was THE WORST FEELING EVER to be in the middle of running in a race when all of a sudden you've got a load you need to dump! WORST THING EVER!
The same thing happened to me... I'm now pooping 3-5 times per day! However, I've been having other intestine-related problems ever since I started working out and the doc says I might have Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's so it might be unrelated. >:/
