A little bit of RnR softens the body...
I enjoy high impact exercises more than low impact ones mainly because it's a pyschological issue. For example, I like running because it makes me feel "free" when I am out and about. I do enjoy my Yoga but like I said, it doesn't make me feel very satisfied.
However, these days, I find myself cutting back on running because of my weak left knee and running every other day tires me out easily and my muscles all feel tight and cramped. A day of rest in between runs has definitely helped me, but I have found another way to rejuvenate my body and get it ready for the next work-out. I end up going for foot reflexology or if I am feeling indulgant, a spa session.
My only dilemma is that after every one of these "rest" sessions, it feels like the body has "softened" and takes a while, like 2-3 runs to achieve the same timing or being able to cover the same distance.
What do you Healthkickers do to take a breather in between days of exercises? Also, what do you think I should do when I have fallen off the bandwagon a little? Should I slow down on running and maintain the same distance covered, or run a shorter distance but faster? Which would be more effective in terms of getting back into the same routine?

Personally if I have been off running for awhile. like a week or 2
I go for a slow but long run. So where I would have done a fast 5km I would do a slow but peaceful 11km. I find it has me back to par the next day.
I go running every other day, otherwise I'm too sore.
I don't run much but I do a lot of hiking, these past two days I've done a total of 7-8 hours of hiking my body is a little sore but because I'm so 'lazy' in my day to day life I am dependent on going for a daily exercise if not as you say my body softens up.
I just make sure to take a warm bath if it gets too bad, I just enjoy the pain of a little too much exercise, a little masochistic I guess.
So I suggest that you do two days in a row and then give your body a breather, and make sure to take a nice warm bath. Also considering swimming more if your knee hurts so much.
Swimming, FTW. It'll kick your ass, but it's easy on your joints. Lots of different strokes to compensate for a sore knee, shoulder, whatever.
Maybe try just doing a long stretching session on your days off instead of reflexology. That should help heal you muscles without slowing down your time.
Personally, I am more sore when I try to get back into (certain types of) yoga than I am getting back into doing cardio type exercises. I get back into those pretty quickly. When I want to get back into running I set distance goals first, then while I am on that distance (say 2 miles) I work on speed. When that gets easy I increase the distance and work on speed until I reach my ultimate distance and stick with it.
If you want to give your body a break but not cut out exercising try finding something you like to do that will give your joints a break. My gym has Reformer pilates classes that I love. Great for toning up and it definitely isn't boring. You'll get strength training and stretching if the instructor is good.
When you fall off the bandwagon its a little tougher to get back on it. As far as rest goes, running is a very high impact way of working out... You have to take great care especially if you are female, but rests in between will be good for you. I'm not sure what your routine is when you run but here are some thoughts...
Running slow covering the same distance or running fast.. This depends on what you are trying to achieve physically. If you are trying to lean out slim with minimal definition then run long distances, but if you are trying to get the toned look then run fast and hard.
If you are trying to achieve a little of both, do wind sprints. Job for 1 min Sprint for another, than job again.. Rinse and repeat until you reach about 1 1/2 mile or so then job out the rest..
Otherwise on your rest days do weight and strength training, or swim. You do feel like you have gotten soft over a rest period but its all mental.. It takes about 2 weeks of absolutely doing nothing for you body to change.
Meditate.
Its an extremely beneficial thing to do.Just 30 minutes a day.
It decreases the aging process
Helps improve breathing
Increases confidence
Helps you sleep
Increases fufillment of life.
Ugh resting screws me up so badly. I need to quit resting! Sometimes its better to do something light on a rest day rather than completely rest!
just get a sport knee brace.

Rapid Weight Loss TipsWeight Loss vs Fat Loss in Getting Well-Defined AbsThere’s one one common misconception people have in mindthat makes them think fat loss and weight
loss is the same. This is not entirely true. They are slightly different
but this small difference could means getting firm, developed abs or getting
flat, plain abs.
First of all, to uncover your abs you need to get rid of belly fat that covers
them. From this, you see that the goal should be fat loss.
But if I lose fat, I lose
weight…so if I lose weight, I should lose
fat too, right?
Not necessarily true. Your body weight comprises of many substances: water,
fat, muscle, etc. Now, if you only use weight scale to measure your progress,
how do you know which substance you lost most?
