Detox Dieting 101
A Detox Diet (also called a cleansing diet) will remove toxins and poisons from your body. The idea of a good detox diet is to eat pure and natural foods that will aid the function of the lymph, kidneys, and liver. All foods that hinder the regime will be avoided.
Generally most detox diets will contain the following foods:
- Organic food and drink (no pesticides or fungicides).
- Whole unprocessed foods (grains, nuts, seeds, etc).
- High mix of vegetables and fruit.
- 2 liters of water per day
- Certain herbs to aid the detoxifying process.Foods to avoid during detox:
- Alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, and drugs
- Processed and refined foods
- Certain supplements (due to the amount of additives).Plan your detox program. You can do a weekend fast. It is good to start on a Friday, with the weekend giving you the transition in and out of your detox program. Likewise, make sure that your detox plan is something that you can follow. Detoxifying does not mean starving yourself.
Make sure that you have a regular bowel movement. Eat food rich in fiber. There’s also tea and other herbs which can help aid bowel movement. When you’re detoxifying, bowel movement is important as it lessens the possibility of toxins being absorbed into the body.
Be positive. A healthy mind means a healthy body. Rid yourself of all negative thoughts. They're added toxins to the body. Smile and have the will and the commitment to your detox plan. It’s never too late to start cleansing yourself, especially your body.
With our hurried lifestyle in this up and busy and polluted world, we're all entitled to some personal pleasures as simple as taking care of our health. Body detox may be as simple as ridding yourself of your negative thoughts by taking a walk in the park and letting the fresh air wash over your thoughts. Or it can be as complicated as following a strict detox diet to eliminate toxins in our digestive system.
Whatever it is, the important thing is, you find a way to cleanse yourself!

I have never tried a detox, but I want to. Maybe this weekend I'll try a whole-foods vegan fruit and vegetable only detox. Sounds good. Maybe even raw foods.
i need to detox! never tried!
Great idea. I'm going to kick start a new diet/exercise program next week. It's not so much a diet as getting back on track to eating HEALTHY and exercising REGULARLY (and normally not obsessively) This would be great! Also a great way to jump start the 'quick smoking' plan. Any suggestions for the tea to aide the bm's?
i loveee to do detox dieting/fasting.
@wanna_be_skinny_leilani@xanga - how do you do detox dieting/fasting?
I pretty much eat raw foods all day until dinner time. Last time I fasted I felt amazing!!! I guess if I cut out the morning Monsters I drink I would technically be on a detox every day?! I'm amazing lol j/p!
"Detox Dieting 101" - will there be a 102? I would be interested in links or at least a more indepth description on the science of it all.
Here's a question: Is this meant to be a standalone diet? Meaning, is it better to just detox and continue on with a typical lifestyle or does this require a complete lifestyle change (i.e. exercise, a holistic diet, etc.)?
I wanna try it :)
i don't think a detox "diet" is necessary. just eat healthily and avoid unprocessed foods as much as possible...that's more than enough.
this is a great post - just to get a general info that detox is a good way to get healthy... and not a starvation plan.
i always feel great after just a one day fast
"Detoxifying does not mean starving yourself" Thanks for adding that part :)
I would love to do this. I've recently have starting trying to cut out all animals products and I feel this would be a benificial way to clean out my body and eliminated any nasty cravings. Thanks for the great post!
I detox twice a month and its from a company called isagenix and it is fasting but it has not stimulants like guarana (sp?) or laxative. It's all natural but hard to find and expensive. but it taste like tropical apple juice is is yummy.
It's all fruit extracts and herb roots, aloe vera and amino acids. Love it.
I tried this and it just wasn't for me... The first 3 days I was gassy and bloated and it wasn't happening... I missed normal food and I couldn't fit into my uniform... If you like doing cleanses, that's all good, but man... I couldn't hack it. Oh yeah, I did that lemonade/cayenne pepper cleanse thing beyonce did... ugh.. I just figured that maybe if I ate less of the junk and worked out more, I would lose weight... and guess what.. it worked.
oh yeah, and detoxing to rid of all the bad stuff... your body does this on it's own, you just need to eat cleaner.
