Are There Guys Who Are "Too Into Their Health"?
Last weekend, I happened to bump into an old friend from middle school, who I haven’t seen in 8 years. Wow. What a small world. Even if it’s been a long time, I could easily recognize him because he hasn’t changed much, and he’s pretty tall- a little over 6 foot 3. Since it was around lunch time, we decided grab a bite together.
We went to a diner that was nearby and decided to order a few plates we could share. Since I wasn’t very hungry, we just ordered a salad and a turkey club sandwich. But my friend’s a pretty big guy, so I wasn’t sure if those two plates would fill him up. I offered to order more, but he just said, “Are you saying I’m a pig or something? Haha.. I’m actually on a diet. I need to lose some weight, so I shouldn’t have more. Besides, those will definitely fill me up.”
Well, if he says so… While we were chatting away, the server brought our meals to the table. Wow. Not only did they look delicious, but the portions were huge! Okay, maybe it WAS a good thing that we didn’t order more.
While we were having lunch, I noticed something weird about him… He was eating like a girl! He only had half of the sandwich, didn’t even touch the fries that came with the sandwich, and mostly ate the salad. He told me he was hungry, but was that all it took to fill up a big guy like him? I was actually eating more than he did, and I wasn’t even hungry. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying guys are always expected to eat more than girls, but when I saw him nibbling on his food like a girl, I just thought it was a bit weird.
Do any of your male/boyfriends tend to be “way too healthy” when it comes to eating? Do you find that a bit weird, or does that not matter to you at all?

He was probably just a bit nervous about eating around you, lol. That's often how people on diets are. I'm sure he went home and had a bit more food.
leaving the fries alone is a wise choice if he wants to lose weight hah.
My ex boyfriend was OBSESSED with his weight, and still is. I don't talk to him anymore, but after we broke up, he still thought he was fat when he really wasn't. It was so weird how obsessed he was.
that's not healthy. that's starving.
girls want strong men, not girly skinny men!
Uph!
i dun find yr friend cutting out on fries being "way too" healthy.
i mean,any deep-fried foods dun do u gd,period.
Being careful about what I eat is a good thing.
If you saw what I ate in a typical meal, you'd probably think I didn't eat much either. Except I eat 6 to 8 meals a day, taking in about 4,000 calories or so total over a 24 hour period. Just because someone isn't eating a lot in one sitting doesn't mean they don't eat a lot in total.
Itry not to eat out, but if I were eating lunch out like that, I would probably only eat half a sandwich and half a salad anyway. Only on special occasions will I feast, but that's because of maintained daily food discipline. I wouldn't touch the fries either, and also eat mostly the salad. Just my preference -- I like vegetables.
This is the way I eat; and I really doubt anyone is ever going to look at me and think "girly"
lmao i dont eat like a girl and i think anybody could point out that i eata pretty healthy portion of food before i throw in the napkin and say im full
but latelyi have gotten like low self esteem about my looks so i hardly leave my house the only time i leave is to go to work or to go pay my rent or my bills but that is it...
Well it is a bit weird as most guys are monsters when it comes to eating food. Probably just on a diet.

I'm not on a diet, but I do choose to not eat fries and oftentimes I'll only eat half of the serving from a restaurant. If you look around, 2/3 of Americans are overweight because they eat too much at one sitting. My meals are split up into 5-6 healthy meals per day of about 500 calories each. On occasions I'll eat Taco Bell or Papa John's, but not more than once a month. I'm 6'3", 240lbs, and definitely don't look girly. To each their own...sounds to me like he's just trying to be healthy.
I would almost do the same thing, I have to agree with Chow... But since I can't see the portions I can't really say how much I would eat... But I do eat about 6 - 8 meals a day depending on how much work at the gym I put in the morning.
I'm consistantly eating every 2 hours or so, so it will all evn out in the end of eating 3 bigger portions during the day. But those fries seem so tempting!!!
I do indulge in those type of foods during my 'cheat days', but during the week, food discipline is in full affect.
But in the end, everyone has their own choices..
Double standards.
I HATE it when guys eat less than me or when they eat/ACT like girls. -_-
@OngishLyOngLee@xanga - How is half of a sandwich and a salad starving? Not understanding that one.
@methodElevated@xanga - Oh I totally agree.
manorexic?
Wait..you are complaining because he didn't eat all of the food? My guy does the same thing. We both watch what we eat.Just because it's on the plate doesn't mean you have to eat it all.You eat till you are full, not stuffed. I appreciate any person who can eat healthy... without starving themself. That guy,he probably eats 4 or 5 times a day.Mini meals that are healthy. That is a way to keep your metabolism up.
I don't think there's much of a way to be too healthy. As long as what you are doing is actually healthy for you. What I do think is too much is when people get so obsessed with health in general that they try to force that lifestyle on other people who don't want it. Just like with anything else, to get healthy you have to want it yourself and you can't force anyone to want it.
I don't think a guy eating like that is really weird, though. I think there are any number of much, much, much stranger things a guy could be doing (or even just disgusting habits like cleaning your ears with your keys oo; ) so it's not necessary to really focus on how someone eats as strange. :p
I don't think there's a "girl" way to eat or a "guy" way to eat. But, that's just me. :p
i think he`s healthy and normal. lots of people don`t like to stuff themselves so much they get a "food coma". he`s mature enough to know exactly how much fills him up.
maybe you`re not healthy enough.
whether he's starving himself or not, i wouldn't know... you'll have to hang around him for one week and describe every little detail for me to figure that out...
but yeah, i'll admit to eating healthy... you won't see me eating junk as much (fries, chips, etc)... and chances are i'll eat several small-medium sized portion... and most likely, i'll eat the slowest since i take my time chewing on the food... this is mainly to help digest my food easily and to let my brain know when i'm at 80% rather than using the stomach's overcapacity level... when you're stomach bulges out and you feel like you can't move or breathe, that's unhealthy...
@Morningstarrising@xanga - he didn't have steak.
so... does less food = healthy? I don't understand the question...
Uhm...generally, a healthy serving size is about the size of your fist. Half a sandwich and a salad? Yeah, for a healthy person this is a normal portion. If you're in America, land of the giants, portion size is HUGE. We really need to get some nutritionists into our schools before everyone eats themselves to death.
It doesn't really sound like this guy is doing anything bad at all. Eating like a girl? Please...cut the sexist bullshit. More men die of heart disease than women....my father and grandfather both died of heart related diseases. That alone was enough for me to stop eating all red meats (except on rare occasions like weddings).
Just because he's a guy, it doesn't mean that he's not allowed to be on a diet. I think that instead of criticizing and belittling your friend behind his back, you should be more supportive and encouraging.
@thunder_kwan@xanga - Ya...I don't get this person's point. How is not eating fries "too healthy" ??
