2-Week or Daily Disposable Contact Lenses..Is it Safe To Wear Them For Longer Than That?
I’ve been wearing 2-week disposable Acuve contact lenses for a number of years now. I had been using the non-disposable ones since I first started wearing contact lenses, but I always ended up tearing them up and having to get new ones. So, I decided to switch to the 2-week disposable ones, and have found them much easier to handle. Even if they do rip, it isn’t as big of a deal because I now have other ones to back them up. Plus replacing the old ones with new ones every two weeks is much more sanitary than sticking with the non-disposable ones.
When I first started wearing the 2-week disposable ones, I made sure I only wore them for two weeks at a time, and threw them away right after. (I would even mark the calendar to remind myself!) But then I started to wonder if it’s really necessary to throw them away after wearing them for exactly “2-weeks.” So, for the past few years, I’ve actually been wearing them for more than 2-weeks, sometimes even for a month and a half straight. So far, I don’t have any “noticeable” side effects or anything, and plus I have saved some money. But then I started to wonder, will my vision be affected in the long run if I continue to wear them for longer than two weeks?
Do you or have you worn 2-week or daily disposable contact lenses before? Do you tend to wear them for longer than you should? Do you think it’s necessary to wear them for exactly that length of time?

I have two week ones but I usually end up wearing them for a month and a half! I also use the solution called Clear Care and it works fantastically.
i have two weeks also, and i sometimes wear each for three weeks to a month. one time i even had a pair for 3 months (broke college student so i don't recommend doing that) but i barely wore them, only when i went out to a club or party or had dance rehearsal.
i have month contacts i change them every two months or when i rip them i dont think it does anything bad...except maybe dry your eys out a lil when they're too dry
haha, i use those same ones.
2 week acuve and i've currently been wearing them for a month straight :D
Well, you can wear them longer if you don't wear them as much.
For example you could wear them a whole month if you only wear them 4 hours a day or something. That's how my eye dr explained it to me.
I have the two week ones, but my eye doctor told me that you could really wear them for a month if you wanted. That's what I've always unknowingly done, and nothing bad has happened to me.
Nah, I don't do that unless I've taken good care of them... lol. I'm not that good at taking good care of them :P
I have the monthly-changed ones. I usually wear up to one month and a half or two if I forget to change them. They still work very well. But changing the lenses always makes my vision much clearer after a while of using the same pair.
I have two weeks. I've always worn theme for a month. After a month they start to kill my eyes. You have to clean them every night though.
I have the two week ones and I tend to wear them for a month or more. I know to change them when one of them gets blurry (I guess due to the prescription wearing off?). But, being a poor college student I don't like wasting things that are still good for at least an extra week...or three.
actually 2 weeks contact lens can wear up to 14 times(I asked when I was hv my eye test)
I used to be wear them up to 3 wks or even a month,
but becoz I hv worn contact more than 8 years
my eye recently demand me to change contact lens more frequently,
it'd be too dry if I wear 2 wk contact for 3 weeks.
I have the two-week ones but use a pair for about a month (with daily cleaning, of course!). No problems so far.
@WithHeart@xanga - Same here, I think they tend to get more blurry the longer you wear them (even when i put them in the solution overnight) so i'll wear them for about a month or more. I think it's an underestimate of the life of the contacts just to make more money.
gone about 6 months now with no solution, aloe vera, or booz.
I guess they havn't disintegrated so far..
No. No. No! It is not OK to wear 14-day lenses past their expiration date of 14 days. I am a researcher for the contact lens industry, and believe me, you can really damage your eyes. Do not think "Well I have worn them for a month without any problems" that you won't have problems. You can get all sorts of nasty fungal infections and some can cause blindness. Even if you are spared from an infection, wearing lenses longer than prescribed will hurt your long term eye health. That means that when you are older, your eyes will suffer the consequences.
We are talking about your eyes! You have one pair. Don't be foolish. If you want to save money by stretching your replacement schedule than you should wear glasses.
Replace them on time and replace your contact lens case every 30 days. Your contact lens case is a hot tub for germs - even if you clean it regularly! Do yourself a favor, throw it away every month!
Keep your eyes healthy, sparkly and clear. Follow proper lens care. Do your research!!!!
I recommend you all buy a LensAlert Timer. I was in your shoes...wearing my 2 week lenses for 4 even 6 weeks at a time. I basically just forgot. Big mistake. I got a gross, painful eye infection, because of it. My eye doctor gave me a LensAlert the last time I had a check-up. It keeps track of the lens and case schedule, so you replace everything on the exact time it says. They also sell online I think. Maybe go to their website. lensalert.com.
Just because you can see, doesn't mean you are not causing serious damage to your eyes.
