  • Soy or Skim Milk...That Is the Question...

I’ve been a soy milk addict for a few years now. I always start my day off with a bowl of cereal and soy milk (my favorite meal and time of the day!), and I also drink several cups throughout the day. I’ve tasted a couple of different brands of soy milk so far, but the one I like the most is Silk. It has all these different kinds of flavors to choose from, plus, I love how it has that “silky” taste. Since I’m not big into sugar, I always go for either the unsweetened or light flavored ones.

I’ve always been the type of person who loves just about any kind of soy product, but never really drank soy milk until I came to the city and had that first taste. I think it was mostly because a lot of Korean soy milks are usually sugary, so I always went for skim milk when I was living in South Korea.

As I was enjoying my bowl of cereal with soy milk again this morning, I started to wonder if drinking ONLY soy milk and not consuming skim milk is good for your body (because that’s what I’ve been doing for a little over a year now). I’m not saying I haven’t drunk skim milk at all for over a year, but definitely not enough; when I add it  up, I would say it probably amounts to only two cups. I figure soy milk has a lot of protein, it is full of vitamins, has little saturated fat, no cholesterol, and basically as many health benefits as milk has, or possibly even more. So I’m not sure if I need to balance it up by drinking skim milk as well.

What do you guys think? Are you more of a soy milk or skim milk person? Do you think it’s necessary to balance it up?
